Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 18/04/2021 20:52

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

💐 Athelstane so sorry to hear about your cat.

debka hope it went ok!

🌷🌷🌷 to anyone who needs them.

I am definitely feeling the benefits of bootcamp, lost 2 inches on waist and the gap to do up my target shorts is a bit smaller this morning 😁 Slightly smaller portion dinner last night has helped I think.

Challenge tomorrow, going round to a friend's to celebrate her daughter's birthday. Dinner is ok as helpfully her DH is low carbing. But she is the most amazing cook and makes delicious cakes and the prospect of saying no is really tough!!! But I do NOT want to go backwards. I've lost a stone so far this year inc this bootcamp (did my own mini bootcamp end Feb). Have 1.5 stone to go. Think I need to write that on some post-its and put them round the house Grin and write it on my hand for tomorrow!

Thanks for gentle stick BIWI I'm planning on sticking as much as poss to strict bootcamp as poss over next fortnight, just adding some 90% choc to stop me straying... oh and doing the 16:8 thing. I've not had breakfast the last couple of days and haven't missed it at all.

Bootcamp has made me realise that I do use alcohol as stress relief.

Acupuncture this pm which will help with stress too and is totally low carb 😆

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 23/04/2021 13:13

Athelstane so sorry about your wee moggy. Our old cat hid its pain so much too, so awful, poor wee things.

No weight loss here, but new favourite lunch is sautéed handful of chopped frozen onions and mushrooms, add a sachet of frozen cauli rice, finally top with 2 fried eggs (keen to try this out with micro poached eggs though!)

ElasticFirecracker · 23/04/2021 13:14

@stuntnun Thank you, very good ideas. I think what I find hard is actually approaching the task of doing the planning!

Bestbees · 23/04/2021 13:44

@AthelstaneTheUnready I am so sorry about your cat.

@ElasticFirecracker I think planning is essential, but it is also a mindset thing. Scrambled eggs, opening a tin of fish take less time than jacke pot and easily added to with frozen veg. So I guess reflect on what made you make that choice, one that wasn't beneficial for health/weightloss? I find thinking like this to myself is helpful as it reminds me @BIWI because I am worth it. So why did I not plan and have something right. Sorry a bit of a ramble, but this woe has been so revolutionary for me in this kind of respect!

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 23/04/2021 13:50

Best advice for a bag of frozen sprouts?

Jollyholibobs · 23/04/2021 13:59

@AthelstaneTheUnready so sorry to hear about your cat. It is such a difficult decision. With hindsight I have left it too long both times I had to make this decision. I hope there are medication options. Look after yourself. Flowers

Jollyholibobs · 23/04/2021 14:02

@BIWI thanks for your earlier post. Very timely as I had just been thinking this morning that blaming Cathy seems to have let me be less accountable for cheating - let’s call it what it is. I had a bad day yesterday and I am responsible for making some bad choices.

Rayna37 · 23/04/2021 14:10

Oh dear coming on to add to the trail of confessions! Met up with a friend last night for dinner. Fewer options open than I'd thought (on Saturday there had been barely a scrap of pavement without a table and chairs on it) but went to a nice burger place. No bun but did have sweet potato fries and a 125ml of wine. Less water than I would normally have drunk to compensate too- eating outside just really isn't my thing! Lovely to be out though, even if I did have a thermal vest under everything!

Today has been:
2 boiled eggs and celery salt for a late breakfast
Lunch of HM coleslaw, spinach tomato cucumber with a chunk of cheshire cheese. Yogurt.

I used the mandolin to make the slaw which was brilliant for the cabbage but no good for carrot- I'll stick to grating that!

Fajita style chicken and veg planned tonight with sour cream. Lots of water!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 23/04/2021 14:35

@Thinnerlikeachickendinner I put some oil, butter, salt and garlic into a roasting tin, then pour in the frozen sprouts, give them a shake, then roast them at 200 fan for half an hour or so, (giving them another shake about halfway through). They're very tasty.
VeryLittleOwl · 23/04/2021 14:48

What @MilesJuppIsMyBitch said or boil until pretty soft, mash with lots of butter and then sprinkle a load of grated cheese over the top.

@AthelstaneTheUnready so sorry to hear about AthelCat. I'm the same way as you with big stressy stuff. Close bereavements (human or animal) and relationship break-ups will kill my appetite stone dead for anything up to a fortnight. Anything less stressful and Cathy Twat moves in. Just try a mouthful of something here and there to keep you ticking over if you can Flowers

I seem to be spending my day taking water to animals. 50 litres carried up the side of the cliff in buckets from the natural well in my coastal field for the horses and then 80 litres in jerry cans to the field down the road ready for moving the first batch of ewes and lambs after Tesco has delivered (but at least that was door to door on the quad bike and I only had to lift them on and off!).

Rookie shepherding error last night. A ewe settled down to have her lamb about 10.30pm, had a bit of trouble with it, finally got it out about midnight, I made sure it was on its feet and had found the teat and then since the rest of the flock was all looking very settled, put my 2am check alarm back to 2.45am, wandered sleepily outside at 2.50am not expecting to find anything - and there was the same ewe with a second lamb! What I'd thought was a spot on her back denoting a single lamb was actually a short stripe for twins - the marks have all got bigger and fuzzier as their fleeces have grown since February. Next year they're having a spot at the neck for twins and a spot at the tail for singles, that way I won't get mixed up!!

We had a cauliflower that needed using up, so I made soup and had a bowl for lunch with a big chunk of cheese. Supper is something made with mince and FLGV.

Rshard · 23/04/2021 15:03

So sorry to hear about your cat athle, our pets at such a big part of our lives and it’s devastating when faced with things like this.

Sunny again here, so barbecuing this evening. Lots of low carb meats and a huge salad plus carbs for dd and dh. Can’t wait

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 23/04/2021 15:12

@VeryLittleOwl wow, that sounds exhausting. This is my big question for farmers: how do you not just spend all your time completely exhausted? Or is it just habit and fitness combined?

Excellent sprout advice, thanks all. So disappointed as have been as good as gold and have lost no weight so am waiting on this magical whoosh someone mentioned? Making me very resolute on the no weekend wine thougth as just tried on two lovely summer dresses and had the sad realisation that someone kind and well meaning would DEF ask if I was pregnant if I was wearing them.

BSky · 23/04/2021 16:51

@AthelstaneTheUnready so sorry to hear about your cat.

I am also confessing that I broke Bootcamp lite rules (I’ve carried over from jan Bootcamp) at pub last night. Scales are showing the consequences as 2lb.

Back on it today but need to up the water.
I’ve really noticed how much drinking water makes a difference.

Hope everyone has got the lovely sunshine I have here, and that folk are ending the week on a positive lchf note and/or determined for the weekend 💪

Flowers for those having stressful times

Andi2020 · 23/04/2021 16:54

@Thinnerlikeachickendinner 🤣 sorry to laugh about dresses but I look in mirror and feel same have a ds for confirmation in June and bought a nice long dress but looks like I have a bump hoping it slightly
shrinks by then.
@VeryLittleOwl That sounds hard my dad is a farmer with sheep an cattle so I know all about the new born lambs and calves.

Excuse my ignorance off a newbie is cathy twat when you eat wrong foods Grin

StuntNun · 23/04/2021 17:17

Andi2020 it was supposed to be "carby twat" but due to a typo, Cathy Twat was born!

ElasticFirecracker · 23/04/2021 17:17

Breakfast: ham & cream cheese

Lunch: tinned mackerel & green beans with vinaigrette.

Dinner: not sure yet.

venusandmars · 23/04/2021 17:35

Forgive me @BIWI for I have sinned... dh's retirement do (number one), on zoom so he needed some company. Wine. Too much wine. Off for a long walk to clear my head, then probably straight to bed.

Staffy1 · 23/04/2021 17:54

Hi all, I started with everyone last week, but didn't want to officially add myself as I'm terrible for actually sticking with things. So far I have managed, but starting to find it a bit harder now. My scales are rubbish and vary by up to 4lbs from one minute to the next, so difficult to say what my weight is, but it's definitely down consistently from the start. Just wondering if after week 2 we can add other carbs. The original post sounded like some fruit and nuts could be introduced after the first two weeks. I've never done this before so don't have a clue.

Tickledtrout · 23/04/2021 18:04

Flowers to those with stressful days. Our oldest cat is 13 now. She no longer bounces down the stairs. Can't bear to think of the upset when we lose her.
Picked up kids from school as a treat (vs the school bus) and came back via Starbucks. It's very backwater here but I chanced ordering an "iced black coffee with cream please" through the drive in. It's a 70% error rate usually, but once I'd established no sugar, no milk, iced and pouring cream, it worked out fine. An "iced double shot americano with pouring cream" is what I need to remember next time. And very nice it was too Smile

ListenLinda · 23/04/2021 18:30

Cheese omelette & salad for lunch, fajitas for tea using romaine lettuce as wraps. Will add guacamole & sour cream, mmm looking forward to it.

I am not looking forward to tomorrow. Me & DS have to have COVID swabs tomorrow ahead of his operation on Weds. I hate testing him, poor sod has had four since September Sad

Needs must I suppose.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 23/04/2021 19:32

Has been a difficult week because back ay work (teacher) so more challenges carb-wise.We have free breakfast in school so an sticking to eggs, bacon and mushrooms and black coffee.
Difficult to drink as much water as desirable as limited times ti wee!
Avoiding eating in the canteen and instead opting git takeaway salad and bringing my own full fat cottage cheese snd greek yoghurt for lunch.
At home exhausted dinner is cold salmon and sliced cucumber.
At least at the weekend can increases the exercise and water consumption!
Just do hope not to see any increase on Monday.
And no desire for carbs at all!

Angliski · 23/04/2021 19:41

@Bestbees thank you for sharing :)
@StuntNun thank you for the reassurance

Thanks everyone for your good wishes!

We went to Kew Gardens today! It was ace! Sun was shining and all the blossoms were lit and there weren’t any crowds. A perfect day.

Yesterday was
B scrambled eggs and salmon with avocado
L tuna sashimi with Asian slaw and some pork meatballs with lemongrass
D- roast chicken wings and aubergine salad

I did have a cheeky tablespoon of satay sauce. Guilty eyes.

I think I may have overcome my plateau standing start, with it looks like another 1lb off. It’s not a whoosh but at least it is something!

Yesterday o went to the big smoke!! It was v strange to be in Oxford Circus. Pretty empty.
