Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp

Sunday night here is games night, so better that I start the thread now, before I forget as I've gone to bed so late!

I truly hope that this link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness works!

Apologies if it doesn't, but hopefully someone will come and post a working one if it doesn't!

I love week 2, as for those who haven't low carbed before the results are often spectacularly incredible!

But even for those of us who are more used to low carbing, hopefully this first week has seen you make a good start.

It's looking like some warmer weather is heading our way, which always makes things seem more positive - but also focuses our minds on things like skimpier clothing, so hopefully will help to keep us toeing the line!

I hope the scales have rewarded your hard work, and here's to a good week ahead Flowers

Well done to everyone with losses scales or NSV. And KOKO if you’re not quite where you want to be.

Loving the tulip pics. Mine have only just come out but are not very photo worthy. Bit leggy!

My scales say I’ve had a 6lb loss this week & I’ve more or less carried on since last Bootcamp so surprised if that’s a whoosh. I’d normally be whooping at that but I’m wondering if I put wrong starting weight last week. Just doesn’t seem right. Jeans seemed more clingy after being a bit Cathy Twat on weekend. Doesn’t seem right somehow but we’ll see if that sticks...

Menu today:
L: cheese & ham omelette & spinach leaves.
D: low carb sausages broccoli & cauli flower cheese BIWI way. (My portion control was very poor & I got told off for dipping finger in left over sauce).
All the water

Some good ideas for recipes - going to try Alfredo chicken & fish with poached egg & spinach next week.

I can’t recall who but someone was looking for a low carb friendlyish chocolate birthday/treat occasion cake & disappointed. I’ve made a nigella choc walnut brownie recipe before which uses ground almonds & I swapped the sugar for stevia (or similar). I had them with clotted cream & a few raspberries. Can you eat stuff like that on Bootcamp lite in moderation ?? 🤔

Also someone asked about eating hm sauerkraut & kefir on lchf . I missed the answer what was the verdict?

@ZiggZagg - thinking of you and everything crossed for your DF.

Loving the eyebrow pictures. I never wear make up, but I'm thinking at 45 I should maybe start.

Two sets of twins here today, now have six lambs happily bouncing around the top field :)

MrsKoala · 20/04/2021 20:11

Loving the eyebrows - so natural looking. My eyebrows have a good shape but because the beginning of each of them grew upwards my mum plucked them off in the 80s. She said they looked ridiculous (she has plucked hers to nothing) I would have been about 12/13. And sadly they never grew back. So now rather than framing my eyes they start further apart than my eyes - which are really far apart anyway. I’ve thought about having micro blading to bring them closer together but I’m not sure if it would blend well with the real hair. They are a little thin from all the over arching in the 90s but I can live with that. It’s just the distance apart. Which is why I’ve had a fringe for 20 years. But due to lock down I don’t anymore and I quite like it so am growing it out. But I am faced with the eyebrows that look like they’ve massively fallen out. Grin

Today has been
B - mushroom, spinach, egg scramble
L - leftover belly pork, roast peppers and fried kale
D - turmeric and coconut chicken, swede and cauliflower greens curry and cauliflower pilau rice

I think I got the balance of food/fat right today as I’ve not felt hungry or snacked between lunch and dinner (I usually get starving about 4-5pm). But the pork belly was so fatty and the veg so rich in the oils that I felt full till dinner at 7.30pm.

@FusionChefGeoff FODMAP is very confusing and difficult. At the beginning of last year I was having problems again, and that's when I used the mySymptoms app which really helped. But meanwhile my dr had referred me to a dietician to do the low FODMAP diet. I did it and I found the exclusion phase the easiest bit, and I really did feel good when I followed it initially. But because of lockdown my appointments were on zoom and I saw a different person each time and I really didn't find them interested or helpful and didn't get much help with the reintroduction phase which is the most complicated bit.

What I'm saying really is that keeping really careful notes of what I ate and how I felt was the best thing. I found it hard because I'm very forgetful and disorganised, but it was worth it.

MrsKoala · 20/04/2021 20:16

@ditavonteesed I’m going for a consultation in May (and possibly treatment if I like the idea) of baby Botox on my 11s, juvederm fillers on the downturn corners of my mouth/marionette lines and nasal labial lines and Profhilo injections. My face is starting to look so saggy now I hate catching sight of my reflection. I’m extremely vain I know! It’s one of the reasons I wanted to lose the weight I’d put on so I can get a real picture of my face before without any fat padding it out.

Same here, ZiggZagg, all fingers crossed for your father Flowers

Very, I have just realised that the presentation I'm giving tomorrow has been heavily influenced by all the lambs berking about in the field opposite. Lots of 'fluffy cloud' shapes instead of circles.

Out of the side window I see them all boinking at top speed from right to left... and then two minutes later... all surging back from left to right... and then seven minutes later... all charging across from right to left...

All day, bless 'em.

B: gazillion coffees (two with cream! haven't done that in ages)
L: forgot again, random work demands day
D: leftover roast beef on bed (more like bouncy castle) of spinach wilted in butter

All a bit too low effort today. Mussels to look forward to tomorrow though.

ListenLinda · 20/04/2021 20:21

Salmon stir fry was beautiful and just what I needed. Been so slack with water today, need to get on top of that.
I feel really horribly bloated if I don’t have enough water.
Out most of the day tomorrow so will pack a salad and take my water bottle.

Bestbees · 20/04/2021 20:21

@ditavonteesed and @FinallyHere great brows. I am lucky that mine are naturally rather prominent and because I am a wuss about plucking I avoided the skinny brow fashion. See pic for brows, and ignore stupid face, it was a pic to show my mum I was wearing a card she gave me!

@ZiggZagg I am sorry to hear things remain difficult. Flowers

Oh god and ignore the Massive spot on my chin too!!

cheeseisthebest · 20/04/2021 20:25

Liking the eyebrow talk. Would like mine to be a bit thicker bit they aren't too bad.

Such a good food day today,
Breakfast smoked salmon, spinach and scrambled egg, lots of butter
Lunch few bits of cheese
Dinner pork steak, celeriac and leek mash, spinach with a creamy mustard sauce. This was delicious!
1 creamy coffee, 1 tea, all the water!

ElasticFirecracker · 20/04/2021 20:27

I haven't done to well today. Been really busy.

Went for a shortish slow run.

Breakfast / lunch. An egg and some cooked crispy cheese.

Creamed coconut chocolates. (Melted creamed coconut with cocoa powder, poured in little silicone ice cube tray moulds which harden as they cook)

Dinner (cooked but not eaten yet) will be bits of courgette wrapped in bacon with some home made tomato olive and anchovy sauce and mozzarella .

ElasticFirecracker · 20/04/2021 20:28

Sorry that was harden as they cool not cook

MrsKoala · 20/04/2021 20:37

You can see how far apart mine are and that’s with a bit of strategic pencilling to bring them closer! Excuse the bad hair - I haven’t been to the hairdresser since December Shock

cheeseisthebest · 20/04/2021 20:47

Your hair looks lovely!

Jellycatspyjamas · 20/04/2021 20:53

Loving the eyebrow talk, since I hit menopause mine have taken on a pube line quality and need tidying up regularly, otherwise a bit of coloured brow gel sorts them out - having fought with curly hair all my life I’m a bit dismayed that my eyebrows have joined the unruly hair gang.

Lunch today ended up being salad with smoked mozzarella- a complete revelation, I’m not a fan of smoked cheddar but this was lovely and creamy and not too strongly smoked. So nice.

Hope your father responds to treatment @ZiggZagg, such a worry for you Flowers

Timetobuckup · 20/04/2021 21:02

@ziggZagg I'm so sorry to hear things are rough with your Dad, fingers crossed here.

I have never done anything with my eyebrows, it scares me in case I bugger it all up so I ignore them .

Have had a good day food wise. I am so shocked I still have not been tempted by crisps or potatoes. I used to eat them every day pretty much without fail.

FinallyHere · 20/04/2021 21:10

Lovely @Bestbees

I like the colour of the cardigan, too.

Oh, love the colour of your brows @MrsKoala Would love to have that definition. 😀

cheeseisthebest · 20/04/2021 21:18

Thinking of you ZiggZagg

cheeseisthebest · 20/04/2021 21:19

Last bootcamp I got some great hair advice, quite pleased with how it's looking!

Week 2 - Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp
StuntNun · 20/04/2021 21:21

I am a slattern when it comes to eyebrows. I tried to pluck them once and it hurt so I never did it again. They will have to remain forever au naturel.

B: bacon and eggs, kefir, piece of cheddar
L: butter and pate on Schneider Brot protein bread (4g carbs per slice)
D: chicken tacos which are great for low carbing. Sliced onion, chicken and peppers fried in olive oil with this seasoning mix. Served as a taco bowl on top of shredded iceberg lettuce (good for vitamin K2) and then topped with a little chopped tomatoes, guacamole and sour cream.

TheHoover · 20/04/2021 21:25

Some fantastic eyebrow pics - love yours dita
I pencil mine in to make them look thicker/darker everyday and so micro blading is ideal to chop 3 mins off my daily routine and have them perfect every time. Have had them done three times now - the second was one of the nightmare ‘beautician does her own thing’ scenarios - I said just fill them in and she started razoring my own eyebrows into a thinner line!

So thank you all for the coconut yoghurt suggestion - I very much like Smile. But I very much do not like the cost so in a moment of madness I decided to buy some organic cans of coconut milk and some yoghurt probiotics. The process looks fairly idiot-proof but this is very much not my territory....

BSky · 20/04/2021 21:31

I never really do much with my eyebrows after painful shredding incident so like Stuntnun I’m au naturel. Very impressed with definition it can give though as demo’ed here.

@ZiggZagg - so sorry you’re having a worrying time.

@cheeseisthebest - your hair looks gorgeous. Amazing colour & wave

cheeseisthebest · 20/04/2021 21:33

Thank you so much! My hair is total bane of my life so rare it looks nice!

Bestbees · 20/04/2021 21:36

@cheeseisthebest I think I was one of those giving curly advice, it looks great!

MrsKoala · 20/04/2021 21:40

I don’t pluck my eyebrows either, not since the 90s. I need all the hairs I can get there! I’m lucky that my hair is dark in this respect (not so great for leg hair tho). Is micro blading not permanent then? I thought it was like a tattoo. I might look into it to close the ridiculous distance a bit. Dd looks like me and has my exact original eyebrows, and I love them and cannot believe my mum thought plucking mine off was a good idea!! The bloody 80s have a lot to answer for Angry
