April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Morning all, like many I’m a couple of lbs up since the end of the last bootcamp, happy to be back on it though. Thanks again BIWI and everyone else for running great it and welcome to anyone new.

Chunkymonkey123 · 12/04/2021 10:23

Hello all! Good luck to everyone! I’ve started the day with an omelette. I genuinely took a pregnancy test as my stomach is so bloated from all the bread I’ve been eating. I’m away this weekend so already thinking of how I can make low carb choices as we will be mainly having takeaways.

Jellycatspyjamas · 12/04/2021 10:27

As if by magic I got a delivery of SLC bread and rolls this morning - are they ok in strict boot camp? I’ve only used them after week 2 before now.

colouringindoors · 12/04/2021 10:27

Morning all!

Back on the scales and pleased to see I only gained 2lb over the school Easter holidays which involved a fair bit of chocolate and some other carbs.

B greek yoghurt and a mug of tea
L green salad, ranch dressing and some chicken
B sauteed courgette and ham with herbs, creme fraiche sauce. Hard to explain. It's a pasta sauce but with extra courgette instead of pasta - can only cook one meal for me and kids due to slipped disc, so having to be creative...

Timetobuckup · 12/04/2021 10:29

@Chunkymonkey123 I am really hoping the bloating will ease as well. This is my first time doing this WOE , I have read up a bit but not sure what to expect really.

I did make myself scrambled eggs earlier with fried mushrooms. Both eggs were double yolkers! I have was more excited than is normal about it Grin

decisionsincisions · 12/04/2021 10:30

Morning all!

Had coffee about to make breakfast. Today is B: 2 scrambelled eggs and buttery mushrooms
L: Tuna mayo salad
D: Chicken with brocoli, courgette and kale all buttered up real good which I will have to take to work with me tonight so using tupperware will help keep it to a moderate portion.

Ordered one of those monstrous 2.5litre water bottles so will see how I fare with water intake. I usually have a normal bottle which gets filled throughout the day.. I prefer fresh water.

Huge good luck to everyone - we have got this!!

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 12/04/2021 10:30

@nowlook so jealous - i never considered how important poo was until I didn’t... it can take over ... was less than once a week when it was bad.
Anyway yes, not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea this conversation - as you were Grin

Howdidthathappen1 · 12/04/2021 10:30

thanks @nowlook i'm in now:)

prettybird · 12/04/2021 10:31

@StuntNun and I are taking joint custody of the Big Stick as @BIWI has been suspended for a week (nothing to do with this thread: a comment on another thread that was deemed to be a personal attack).

I'll be gentle at first HaloGrin

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 10:34

We hardly saw the big stick last BC! Maybe we’re due a LOT of wielding in this one...............

ListenLinda · 12/04/2021 10:38

I did wonder where she was this morning!

LittleDoritt · 12/04/2021 10:40

I'm undoubtedly being a knob but I can't write on the spreadsheet. Used the new link Athelestane posted, and am in to the thing, but can't write on it as the cells are protected?

Would someone be happy to add me at 218lbs, or tell me how to do it myself! Please and thank you.

prettybird · 12/04/2021 10:42

@Timetobuckup : as @nowlook says, you can have coffee with cream (in moderation) or one of the low carb unsweetened milks. I've seen people recommending the u sweetened Alpro. But always check the carb count as the different alternative milks vary. Plus you might find as you progress in Boot Camp that your taste buds change. I now find that double cream tastes positively sweet Smile And the suggestion of a small pinch of salt in coffee is surprisingly effective. Just make sure it's a small pinch Grin speaks from experience Blush

prettybird · 12/04/2021 10:48

@TeddingtonTrashbag - @Doilooklikeatourist has already given you a good answer about tomatoes. A fresh tomato in a salad with plenty of other green veg - fine. One of lower carb cans of tinned tomato (they do vary), split amongst 4 or more portions. Also ok. A can of tomato soup, not ok Wink

nowlook · 12/04/2021 10:52

I think Timetobuckup updated to say it was the absence of sweetener in the coffee she was going to struggle with prettybird. I was hoping you, Stunt, BIWI or Nink would do the explanation about tastebud training/body being fooled by sweeteners Grin I don't have a sweet tooth, so the proper science has never quite stuck in my nut!

Shock

@LittleDoritt and @surprisedbyjoy, and (I think) someone else... you're on the spreadsheet now!

prettybird · 12/04/2021 10:53

@Bestbees - yes, it's ok if you're a practised faster and are used to low carb eating. The three meals a day rule is important but is aimed at those that are new to low carb eating and are not yet fat adapted. It stops them getting hungry and then falling face first into carby twatdom Shock

The Rule in Boot Camp is to eat if your hungry but to make sure anything you do eat is low carb Also try to learn to differentiate "hunger" and "habit" I struggle with this one as often we eat out of boredom or habit Blush Have a glass of water first.

nowlook · 12/04/2021 10:54

You're not being knobby! I just tried to add you to the bottom of the spreadsheet and couldn't. We need to ask @AthelstaneTheUnready for support I think.

pinkpinkeverywhere · 12/04/2021 11:03

Morning everyone,

Signing in for my second boot camp. I thought I would put on weight between BC as although I kept eating low carb, I did drink more over Easter and my week off. However I had my jab last week and have been really ill with side effects. I couldn't face eating anything, so as a result I'm weighing in 2lbs lighter than at the end of last BC. I'm not going to promote this as an ideal weight loss method but I'm trying to find the positives where I can.....

On a different subject is anyone else's LC bread taking an age to arrive? I ordered mine at the end of last BC as a treat and it's still not here! I even ordered hot cross buns as a treat for Easter!

My aim for this BC is to get below 10 stone. I'm very short so even then I'm not sure I'll be into healthy BMI territory, but given I was in the obese range on the 18th January this year and now I'm in the lower end of overweight, anything downwards is a good thing.

TheHoover · 12/04/2021 11:04

Hello everyone waves

nother newbie here. 3.5 stone to lose (2 of it from lockdown Shock). I actually started 3 weeks ago but was fannying around really (calories & fat too low and too many indiscretions inc FRUIT). Massive thanks to BIWI & others for the education (I have read a few of the last BC's million and one threads) - I genuinely had no idea about milk, nuts, tins of toms etc (but yeah I did know about the fruit but was in denial).

So I am determined to follow the rules strictly for 2 weeks and decided to start the day with breakfast, even though I am more of a natural 16:8 person but arghhhh I have messed up ALREADY!

Morrisons Greek Yoghurt way too carby for a 250ml portion AND I added a touch of vanilla paste AND I have a splash of milk in my giant vats of tea AND I always start the day on a pint of hot water and lemon juice. I guess not too bad generally but a bit rubbish given I have only been doing this for 3 hours!

Morning all! Solidarity with @BIWI!!!

Bestbees · 12/04/2021 11:09

@TheHoover don't be hard on yourself, that's a pretty decent start. Being kind to yourself makes all the difference. Think about what most people are eating for breakfast and feel smug!
