April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Alsp, waving at @HalfShrunkMoreToGo - very much the same story here with losing a good chunk since August - just need to get over the finish line now.

We can do it!

Sunseed · 12/04/2021 06:30

Morning fellow Bootcampers!

Spreadsheet logged, fridge is full of green veg, recipes planned for the next few days and water bottle at the ready.

I failed miserably to stick to the last Bootcamp but head is in a better place now. Have also persuaded DH to do low carb too as he was commenting on his weight gain this year.

debka · 12/04/2021 06:38

Good morning!
I started low carbing 18 months ago and had lost over 7 stone- a stone off that has crept back on since Christmas and my boyfriend moving in with us. I've really felt it in my clothes in the last few weeks especially, so wasn't entirely surprised to see it on the scales today.
I've binned all my fat clothes so there's an extra incentive to get back on the wagon and lose this stone!
I'm on annual leave for a week this week which is lovely, but always an extra challenge as we will be out and about a bit more. Breakfasts and dinners are fine, but I'll need to give lunches careful consideration.
Breakfast: eggs and butter
Lunch: tuna/mayo salad
Dinner: spag bol with green beans instead of spaghetti

BrassicaBabe · 12/04/2021 06:39

Right. I'm in. Both feet. And my water bottle Grin

Haven't had time for food plans yet. Lunch likely to be egg based. Dinner maybe chicken legs and green veg.

Signed up for a 6 week (3 times a week) online FB based kettlebell course. Only £20. Can't go wrong eh?! (Well, signed up for the last 4 week one and didn't do any of it. HmmBut I'm turning over a new leaf!)

Happy New BC folks!

(We've for an overnight covering of snow here!)

Rshard · 12/04/2021 06:41

Signing in.

Good luck to one and all

blackbettybramblejam · 12/04/2021 06:50

Good morning all,
Wishing you a flying start today. Water water water!!

Elpheba · 12/04/2021 06:51

Morning everyone- exciting to think what a difference in my shape there could be by the end of June. Good luck with the water everyone- definitely my biggest weakness with BC!

margaritasbythesea · 12/04/2021 07:01

Morning everyone! How lucky I am! I looked this up wanting to join in at the next bootcamp and here you are!

I did this maybe 5 years ago, and low carved for three years, maintaining my weight easily. In the two years since I stopped, 2 stone have crept on. So, I am back! Thank you Biwi and Athelstan

oscarandelliesdad · 12/04/2021 07:05

Morning everyone, excited to be back. I feel your pain @listenlinda.... Carb creep here made the weigh in pretty brutal. Hoping some of it is just that water retention. Yikes.Easter Shock
I have a mad few weeks ahead and feeling empowered about food will help, I think. We are following dh abroad on the 22nd. He's been out since early Jan and I have caved and decided that we will join him for the next few years. So exciting but lots of mixed feelings and upset kids. Ds's Guinea pigs don't cope well with long haul travel and he is devistated to leave them behind.
B- boiled eggs smushed with butter, avacado
L- mackerel salad with olive oil and lemon dressing
D- chicken stir fry.
Good luck everyone, hope your days go well and the weighs are kind.
Thanks @BIWI for the shiny new thread

ouchmyfeet · 12/04/2021 07:12

Sigh. I was so determined to carry on between bootcamps and lose another 5lbs.
Instead I have put on 2. I'm so glad bootcamp is back! Definitely need the accountability.

Have a good week all. I'm on leave all week so I know water and the right foods will be a challenge as we'll be out and about a bit. Off to guzzle a first glass and pack my low carb picnic for today's outing

Bestbees · 12/04/2021 07:36

Morning all!

Like @ouchmyfeet I have intended to be good between camps but am 2lb up! Ah well.

My aims for this bootcamp are:
To eat loads of green veg
Eat so much fat!
Eat big meals to avoid snacking
Be kind to myself, its OK to have a slip up or a bit of time off. I am BACK and ready!

School hols still here, and dh off so we have a variety of things planned. However because of covid I get to still cook. For example going to see mil but staying in air bnb. Which is good as she is very much from the high carb low fat school!

Plan for today
Cup of tea with almond milk. Run.
B scrambled eggs with butter
L green buttery soup which I will poach a salmon fillet in
D haddock casserole from diet doctor website. Buttery cabbage. Greek yoghurt

AgathaTwistie · 12/04/2021 07:41

Thanks BIWI

JimmyJabs · 12/04/2021 07:41

Weighed in - it was as bad as I expected but now we've officially started I can concentrate on making it not quite so bad.

cheeseisthebest · 12/04/2021 07:45

Just checking in

Morning campers!

Just goes to show how easy it is to take your eye off the ball: I thought I'd stuck to plan between bootcamps, but I've stayed the same on the scales. I know why: red red wine Grin

Today is leftover chicken Alfredo (from the recipe thread- probably my favourite!) and lovely steak and veg at the PUB, praise be.

Going to TK Maxx because I bloody well can Grin

NEW LINK ALERT! NEW LINK ALERT

USE THIS LINK TO GET ONTO THE SPREADSHEET:

SPREADSHEET

I've just made a new spreadsheet because someone added a 'comment' to the first one. And that leaves a tag with their real name on it.

It's absolutely fine to type information into the cells, add stuff, whatever. That's entirely anonymous.

But if you add a 'comment' to a cell, it WILL display your real name - see picture.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/04/2021 08:03

Unfortunately, we can't turn off 'comment' in googlesheets, nor can I delete someone else's comment, which is why the palaver this morning, apologies.

EarlGreyHot · 12/04/2021 08:08

Thanks BIWI and Athelstane
Feeling motivated!

Cactusowl · 12/04/2021 08:08

Lost 24.6lbs in the last boot camp and would love to do around the same this time too!
Good luck everyone Flowers

Carb creep can be brutal and there is absolutely no judgment here... BUT

Are you sure you weigh 1,483 pounds? It's 106 stones WinkGrin

Timetobuckup · 12/04/2021 08:16

Good morning all

I have weighed myself and started the day with a pint of water.

How do you all cope without coffee first thing ?

venusandmars · 12/04/2021 08:18

@oscarandelliesdad on the spreadsheet you've entered your weight as over 1,000 pounds. I'm guessing it's a mistake, but it will make for a great first week loss if you enter the correct weight next week Grin

Jellycatspyjamas · 12/04/2021 08:18

I’m in, have filled in the spreadsheet and am starting afresh. Good luck everyone 😁

nowlook · 12/04/2021 08:19

We don't, Timetobuckleup!

You can definitely have a coffee. If you can't drink it black, have cream (in moderation) or one of the unsweetened plant milks.
