April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

@JimmyJabs Cathy twat was a typo made by someone(can't remember who!) on the previous bootcamp. Meant to be carby twat. It has stuck to refer to carby slip ups.

Busy here already! Been for a run and had a black coffee. This is my second bootcamp and am fairly practised faster and am not hungry. Is it OK to skip breakfast in these two weeks?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/04/2021 09:10

You're on, @TeddingtonTrashbag!

@devoncreamtea - see earlier posts re NEW LINK TO SPREADSHEET

LINKING HERE AGAIN

And a reminder to people NOT to insert comments!

Definitelymaybeee · 12/04/2021 09:16

Morning. Enjoying reading all this morning's posts, thanks for such a positive start to the day and my second bootcamp . Feel like I dodged a bullet because Cathy Twat refused to leave my house too over Easter but I escaped with only a 2lb loss. Have a great first day everyone 😀

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 12/04/2021 09:17

Cathy twat was my typo

Makegoodchoices · 12/04/2021 09:17

Morning.
Only spotted the boot camp start after my shopping delivery this week, so I’m muddling through until Friday when the FLGV arrive!

Breakfast: Greek yog
Lunch: ham & cheese salad
Dinner: cottage pie (cauliflower mash)

Having woken up to snow everywhere I’m not feeling very salady. But I’m sure when I get hungry enough I’ll get over myself.

Now to get on the water...

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 09:19

@JimmyJabs Cathy Twat was an autocorrect of ‘Carby Twat’ (an affectionate BC term for those times where you make a bit of a carby twat of yourself) and it grew from there she kinda stuck around... Smile

👋 to everyone 🌷🌷🌷 I’m not officially joining this BC but I’m going to be here and following along for the most part.

StuntNun · 12/04/2021 09:20

Bestbees if you're already eating low carb and experienced with intermittent fasting then it's okay to skip breakfast from week 1 of Bootcamp. If you're coming from a conventional diet then it's really important to eat three meals a day (and snacks if needed) at first in order to speed the transition to a fat-burning metabolism and also to stop you reaching for the carbs when you get hungry. Once you've adapted to this way of eating then your appetite naturally reduces and you shouldn't need to snack any more and may even find yourself accidentally missing meals.

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 09:22

Crossposted with lots of you!

Having my coffee soon, but ran out of cream over the weekend. It will not feel right!

Keeva2017 · 12/04/2021 09:25

Hi everyone! Iv been slowly reducing carbs over the last few weeks, no plan or anything. The difference it has made in my energy levels, cravings have disappeared, my skin looks healthier.

It motivated me to do this properly if i get all that from half arsed approach, let’s see what a real plan will do. I’m avoiding the scales as they interfere with my positive mental place but i have some clothes that will be a good measure.

Onelittlepiglet · 12/04/2021 09:26

Hello everyone! Excited to be starting again. I have put about 5 lbs on over the last two weeks where I have relaxed my food, but I am also on my period so that probably accounts for at least 2 of them. Have eaten too much chocolate and won’t miss giving that up again!

Today’s plan is:
B - Greek yoghurt And a tiny bit of double cream
L - Greek veg soup (all cooked in butter with a little added cream and cheese)
D - omelette with courgette and leek.

Good luck everyone!

surprisedbyjoy · 12/04/2021 09:30

New bootcamper but long-term low carber here. I lost a lot of weight on low carb some years ago and have mostly maintained OK albeit at a weight that is still too high! First lockdown combined with redundancy threw me badly and I put on a couple of stone over last summer. I managed to lose one of those between September and Christmas and lurked on the post Christmas bootcamp thread and lost a bit more so am starting here just above my weight a year ago.

I'm afraid the spreadsheet has defeated me. I used the new link and tried to add my name at the bottom but it won't permit it. If anyone can add me my starting weight is 205lbs. If not I'll try again later.

Doilooklikeatourist · 12/04/2021 09:32

@TeddingtonTrashbag. Re tomatoes
Anything green and leafy = good ( FLGV = fuck loads of green veg )
Any other colour veg = ok , but treat with caution ( and keep away from some )
Have a look at the spread sheet pages , there’s lots of info there about veg
Adding a tin of tomatoes to a stew , fine as it will be shared out in the portions
Having a whole tin of tomato soup as a meal , not a good idea

Freetodowhatiwant · 12/04/2021 09:35

Morning! I just wrote a long post and lost it when I went to weigh myself. Thanks for adding me @AthelstaneTheUnready.

Thanks for confirming we can continue with IF if that’s what we are used to @StuntNun. I really do find that with an underactive thyroid (although I do take medication for this) when I want to shift weight I do have to be quite strict about it. 16:8 helps me do this although I have to be honest I don’t always find it easy.

It’s a bit TMI but does anyone else struggle with constipation and what do you do about it when low carbing? I usually have a bowl of bran a couple of times a week to help move things along!

So my first weigh in this morning and I am 64.75kg which is 10.196. I would like to be 60kg which is just under 9 and a half stone. I am 5ft 5. At the height of my thyroid problem u was 76kg so I do know what it is like to have a lot more weight to lose. Over the years I have managed to get my weight under more control by low carbing and lifting weights at the gym which I should start doing next Monday when the kids are back in school.

Happy opening day everyone! Won’t it be nice to also go to a cafe or restaurant. Albeit outside in the freezing cold.

nowlook · 12/04/2021 09:35

@cheeseisthebest I made you a solemn promise to update the spreadsheet on your behalf each week, if you're still in!

JimmyJabs · 12/04/2021 09:43

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch

Cathy twat was my typo
You spawned the monster then? I booted her out yesterday morning after she whispered in my ear that I "might as well" finish off all the chocolate before I started the BC.
TeddingtonTrashbag · 12/04/2021 09:44

@AthelstaneTheUnready
Thanks so much!!!
Have now added in my data and read the fab tabs on veg calories etc so sorry for the numpty question earlier re tomatoes. I can see that I could definitely have made more progress if I’d known that before ...
Off to Lidl soon to stock up on green veg and salad -that asparagus frittata gonna happen here today! Going to stick to the budget supermarkets rather than temptation of M&S/Waitrose etc.

This is such a supportive place - I already feel that this is a real project now - thanks!

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 12/04/2021 09:48

@Freetodowhatiwant re constipation
(Readers of a delicate disposition may choose to look away now)
I have struggled with this over the past year, despite all the water, the flgv and the 10k steps I do daily. According to those in the know I should be fine, but I still find that I don’t actually poo very much, and when I do it’s been er... difficult... I’ve had to resort to senna etc.Blush

So... I’ve been taking psyllium capsules along with magnesium supplements for the past month or so and I have to say it’s made things easier. I do not like having to take anything, but I think without the psyllium there’s just not enough bulk to my food. (I Fast from 7:00pm to midday every day, and occasionally do OMAD one meal a day.)

I also find the odd bottle of red wine helps but not exactly on plan Grin

devoncreamtea · 12/04/2021 09:49

Thanks @prettybird found it and worked no probs.

Howdidthathappen1 · 12/04/2021 09:52

so excited for this - sorry no idea what i'm doing with the spreadsheet - I just tried it and got a google account security message.
Please can my weight of 161lb be added - 4lb less than my end weight of the last bootcamp - It's finally clicking in!!!
It took me a long while to train my brain into not believing that I need to have a massive 3 egg omelette every morning so if it's ok I'm going to stick to coffee with cream for breakfast as I'm a bit scared that i I start eating breakfast again it'll send be backwards. I have been lc (with a major blip when house moving) since the last boot camp though so not starting from scratch.

nowlook · 12/04/2021 09:54

By contrast @Ifeelmuchlessfat, you could set your watch by my bowel movements, if that's your thing. What kind of group is this again? Grin

Freetodowhatiwant · 12/04/2021 09:55

Ooh thanks @Ifeelmuchlessfat. I am already taking magnesium so I will see about adding psyllium husk tablets. I recently tried laxatives and they, for the first time ever, did some awful things to me. Sorry to all for the TMI. As you were.

nowlook · 12/04/2021 09:57

@AthelstaneTheUnready

NEW LINK ALERT! NEW LINK ALERT

USE THIS LINK TO GET ONTO THE SPREADSHEET:

SPREADSHEET

I've just made a new spreadsheet because someone added a 'comment' to the first one. And that leaves a tag with their real name on it.

It's absolutely fine to type information into the cells, add stuff, whatever. That's entirely anonymous.

But if you add a 'comment' to a cell, it WILL display your real name - see picture.

Try this one, @Howdidthathappen1
MrsKoala · 12/04/2021 09:59

Morning all. I saw Cathy Twat upthread and thought that’s either a typo for Carby or quite an unfortunate name. I’ve woken up to sheets of snow and a crappy cold. Which is so weird in April. I can’t seem to get on to the new thread Athelstane I’m on an iPad, which I have used before, so I shall keep persevering.

Bestbees · 12/04/2021 10:00

@StuntNun thank you. I fell off the fasting thread but might pop back over so as not to derail.

@Freetodowhatiwant we are weight buddies, pretty much exactly the same start weight (I was 10.1 and 1/2 this morning) and would love to be 9lb7. I am shorter though at 5.3. I will be doing 16/8 during the week, and at weekends depending on mood!

Freetodowhatiwant · 12/04/2021 10:14

Ha weight buddies @Bestbees! I love it. I had a weight buddy last time I did the boot camp this time last year for leaving lockdown 1 and I think we managed to lose the same too. In the unlikely event that anyone remembers who it was do shout.
