April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

@TheHoover

Hello everyone waves

nother newbie here. 3.5 stone to lose (2 of it from lockdown Shock). I actually started 3 weeks ago but was fannying around really (calories & fat too low and too many indiscretions inc FRUIT). Massive thanks to BIWI & others for the education (I have read a few of the last BC's million and one threads) - I genuinely had no idea about milk, nuts, tins of toms etc (but yeah I did know about the fruit but was in denial).

So I am determined to follow the rules strictly for 2 weeks and decided to start the day with breakfast, even though I am more of a natural 16:8 person but arghhhh I have messed up ALREADY!

Morrisons Greek Yoghurt way too carby for a 250ml portion AND I added a touch of vanilla paste AND I have a splash of milk in my giant vats of tea AND I always start the day on a pint of hot water and lemon juice. I guess not too bad generally but a bit rubbish given I have only been doing this for 3 hours!

That is NOT rubbish at all! Shock

In just 3 short hours, look at how much you've realised and corrected!

Don't think the hot water & lemon combo is that bad as you won't be using much lemon surely.

Rayna37 · 12/04/2021 11:21

Morning! Have crept up quite a way over my target weight after a year of Covid life and after hanging out with Cathy all weekend I'm a few pounds even higher than I started October's BC.

@AthelstaneTheUnready if you can add me to the spreadsheet please next time you're in there I'll add my starting weight 132.2lbs

Telling myself if I'm strict for 5 weeks before the restaurants open I'll be comfortable in my favourite clothes and I can see if I've enough motivation to stay the course for the next 5, what with no bikini body required this year.

Started the day well with my first swim of the year, and loads of water under my belt already.

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 11:23

There’s nothing wrong with that breakfast.

Guilt and self-recrimination is not endorsed nor encouraged on BC.

A hot water with lemon is fine.

Take your yoghurt portion down slightly if you felt it was too much. If that’s what you needed to feel full and satisfied then it’s fine.

A little milk in your tea is also fine. I measure my milk out in the morning to ensure I’m not overdoing it. Milk in my tea matters a great deal to me so I eat less cheese to balance out my milk intake.

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 11:33

Oh yes solidarity with @BIWI, most definitely!

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 12/04/2021 11:34

I also cannot edit the spreadsheet, sorry, have tried all the new links and on phone and mac!

I am 165 lbs. On Friday I was 161, so that's an impressive 4 lbs weekend of cathy twat gorging on all the kids' easter chocolate.

I don't ever eat breakfast but more brunch/weird large lunch style snack at 4/dinner so it's eggs butter and smoked salmon for the first of these!

1stMrsF · 12/04/2021 11:35

Morning campers! Checking in. Shockat lack of Biwi

Pleased that starting weight is only 2lb over the end of last BC, as have definitely taken a break over the last two weeks. Enjoyed it though - it was wall to wall garden visits from friends until it snowed Hmm

Today will be eating up leftovers in the fridge so probably smoked salmon and eggs and avocado. Feeling really cold so just about to take a herbal tea out for a walk to help with water intake.

Welcome everyone and good luck!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/04/2021 11:38

You're on, @Thinnerlikeachickendinner and @Rayna37!

StuntNun · 12/04/2021 11:40

@Freetodowhatiwant start out with plenty of fluids to help ease constipation. Gentle exercise is good too. Fat can also help get things moving so you could try a teaspoon of coconut oil in coffee or rooibos tea. Psyllium husk is a good natural remedy but if it's a real problem then use over the counter aids. If it's a side effect of going low carb then it will only last a couple of days anyway. If you have a child's step in your bathroom then putting your feet on it can help as it unkinks the bottom of the lower intestine if your feet are slightly elevated.

I love double yolkers Timetobuckup what a lovely surprise.

TheHoover hot water and lemon juice is excellent, try adding a pinch of salt as well. Or even some slices of ginger if you want to be really fancy.

prettybird · 12/04/2021 11:46

@TheHoover - don't beat yourself up and that certainly isn't a "bad" start.

The Morrison's Greek Style yoghurt (which I presume is the one that you're worried about) isn't too bad at 4g carbs per 100g but it's also 9.9g fat which is good. A 250g portion is a large one and I'm sure will keep you full for a long time Grin A touch of vanilla paste won't be too bad (check the ingredients: some don't use sugar) but why not try cinnamon next time? Smile I also struggle with reducing the milk in my tea - but have now compromised with allowing myself 4 cups with a small amount of milk and the rest I have to have black. It reduces the amount of tea that I have as I'm not keen on it black (even though it's a posh mix of Darjeeling and Earl Grey) and encourages me to have rooibos or herb teas instead which I do like without milk Wink

A pint of hot water with a squoosh of lemon juice sounds the perfect start to a low carb day - gets your water intake up right away Grin The electrolyte "drink" that I make myself for every second pint of water is a generous shake of Lo:Salt with a squoosh of lemon juice. Unless you are squeezing in 4 lemons and an equal amount of sugar Wink

Thinnerlikeachickendinner · 12/04/2021 11:50

Athelstane thank you!

prettybird · 12/04/2021 11:53

I've got to face the music and weigh in myself Shock

After working really hard last Boot Camp and getting down to 11st 1.75lb, the lowest I've been for about 3 years, I went off plan enjoyed myself for my birthday. Lots and lots of bubbly, wine, cake and chocolates later, I'm back at 11st 11lb Blush In less than a week ShockShock Still, you only turn 60 once Wink I'm hoping that by drinking lots of water and getting promptly back on the wagon, I'll have a good first week whoosh.

My objective this Boot Camp is to get to a normal BMI which, with today's weigh in, is now over a stone away ShockBlush

poorbuthappy · 12/04/2021 11:55

Shock @BIWI
Thank you @prettybird and @StuntNun for stepping in...

colouringindoors · 12/04/2021 11:57

Timetobuckup when I've done this woe in the past my bloating has done after 7-10 days. Does ms3ke me think i eat too much wheat previously.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/04/2021 12:09

And a reminder, just in case...

NSVs = non-scale victories.

A number on the scale is just a helpful pointer to indicate roughly where you are in your own personal 'happy with that' zone.

But unless you have really fancy scales they don't tell you whether you look the way you would like, or whether you now have more muscle than fat, etc etc. You may as well measure in Prime Galactic Pfui for all the use scales are for those metrics - the meaningful ones.

Eating well means rebuilding muscle as well as shedding fat (that's without any impact from exercise). And as muscle weighs more than fat, but takes up less space, even if your scales say you now weigh the same, or more, Prime Galactic Pfuis, you may actually be slimmer.

Measure, people. Take measurements of your bust, underbust, waist, arse, and any other that takes your fancy.

There will be occasions when the scales don't move, but your measurements continue to shrink.

Don't forget the improvement to blood pressure, blood sugars, skin, hair, emotional stability, etc etc...

Jellycatspyjamas · 12/04/2021 12:27

On a different subject is anyone else's LC bread taking an age to arrive? I ordered mine at the end of last BC as a treat and it's still not here! I even ordered hot cross buns as a treat for Easter!

Yes, I placed my order before Easter and it arrived this morning - I wonder if they’ve been busier than usual.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 12/04/2021 12:27

Afternoon all, not been on the last few bc but glad to be back!

Long story short but stress of last year and severe skintness = face planted into carby twatdom. And way too much alcohol, so that’s an issue for these 2 weeks.

Also started peri menopause. So this is going to be a challenge but if anything can sort me out this WOE and the big stick can.

Just over 13st 8 this morning Blush

Happy losing everyone Grin

MrsKoala · 12/04/2021 12:28

Thanks for the reminder Athelstane, I always forget to measure then regret it halfway through when my clothes are looser but the scales aren’t moving. I’ll do it now...

LittleDoritt · 12/04/2021 12:33

If I could just stop feeling so utterly exhausted, and like I need a nap every three hours, that would be the best NSV I could ask for.

Thanks for adding me to the spreadsheet Athelstane, and thanks for trying to Nowlook Grin

TheHoover · 12/04/2021 12:38

Thanks Everyone. I know not to carb count but I reckon I had about 15g carbs before 10am and I'm conscious most carbs should come from veg. But yep Athelstane its all learning Smile.

This Morrisons GY is 5g carbs per 100g @prettybird. Yes it was a big portion @Ninkanink - I am still pogged! Willl be forking out on the Fage stuff from now on.

Thanks @Stuntnun (beams) I am very glad hot water & half a squeezed lemon has the BC seal of approval (shhh I also drink pints of fizzy soda with half a lime in).

Please can I go on the spreadsheet (187lb).
Good luck to everyone with their goals.

Solongsugar · 12/04/2021 12:39

Thank you @prettybird! Going to add my starting weight.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/04/2021 12:41

You're on, @TheHoover!

Timetobuckup · 12/04/2021 12:44

Thanks for the reminder about measuring @AthelstaneTheUnready

Have been and gone and done it now.

LyndaSnellMBE · 12/04/2021 12:45

I’d love to join but can’t fill out the spreadsheet. There is no keyboard to use when I try from my iPhone or ipad.

prettybird · 12/04/2021 12:49

@TheHoover - be careful with the Fage stuff. Iirc, they've reduced their fat to 5%, so you need to faff about with adding double cream. The Supermarket "finest" own brands tend to be 10% fat - and Lidl have (re)started doing a 10% Authentic Greek yoghurt (alongside their bigger tub of Greek Style yoghurt which is only 5% and isn't nice Hmm) which is lovely and what I had for breakfast with some cinnamon Smile So you don't need to splash out on Fage Grin
