April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Ok. So, Aubergine. The amazing spreadsheet tells me its 2.4g carb/100g. Sainsbury's website says 1.9. Google search first answer says 6g!

If I go with spreadsheet/Sains I can eat a whole one in tonight's dinner. With tomato sauce (inc) onion, and ripped mozzarella stirred through at the end 👌

nowlook · 16/04/2021 14:21

That frittata looks beautiful @pangolinfan. Will you pop it on the vegetarian recipe thread?

Ha @MilesJuppIsMyBitch, they're only less visible because I had it packed full of highlights yesterday to blend in the white Grin. Will be thinking of you on Monday when your DC go back to school Flowers

Aubergine is definitely fine. Probably some net carb nonsense.

If you're worried, switch the onions for shallots if you can be arsed peeling the things

Thanks! Have been away from Mumsnet for so long I've forgotten how to use it!

Off topic, but fascinating article exploring the "brain fog" that many have experienced over the last year living through a pandemic.

pangolin no prob - am currently flat on back due to back injury so the internet is my oyster Grin

nowlook · 16/04/2021 15:37

@BIWI will there be a supplementary week 1 thread?

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 16/04/2021 16:03

@pangolinfan that looks amazing!! Please do add, would love the recipe.

Feeling a bit rough here. 3rd day for me though and I remember it well from last time. I just drank tons of water so doing the same. Successfully dodged my DM bringing round cake by having an enormous salad.

B - 2 boiled eggs, cream coffee
L - aforementioned chicken, cheese and mayo salad
D - still got two sausages to hoover up so might make it into an omelette and have with some green veg.
S - so far a spoonful of greek yoghurt and peanut butter!

ListenLinda · 16/04/2021 16:16

It has been a snacky day for me today and I don’t really know why as my meals have been fine! Probably boredom, it’s a slow work day.
Doing well with the water though.
I planned on having fish for tea but i don’t really fancy it now. Might nip to sainsburys on my way to get the kids and see if I can get some pork belly.

Makegoodchoices · 16/04/2021 16:20

Feeling really down today, went to the park and got cold then didn’t want my salad because I was too shivery for fridge food! Should have had an omelette or a beautiful frittata like @pangolinfan instead but I made myself eat the salad and it was the least enjoyable meal I’ve had all week.

And I’ve done really badly on water - because I was going to be at the park all morning so couldn’t be weeing every 10 mins. Haven’t fallen of the wagon at all, but I’m cranky as hell!

It’s probably PMS mixed with low carb flu.

I also ordered some summer clothes, and let’s just say they might look lovely in about 8 weeks time but right now is....not good.

Oneborneverydecade · 16/04/2021 16:28

@ouchmyfeet Flowers I've said it before but I'm totally here for your transformation

@VeryLittleOwl I read an article about a knackerman in the Guardian this week. It said that 'the general view is that a sheep’s main aim once in the world is to get out of it as fast as possible'. I had no idea sheep were so fragile tbh, are yours more hardy being in the Highlands? It was a difficult article to read

Oneborneverydecade · 16/04/2021 16:30

@Makegoodchoices I also ate a salad in a very chilly park today - it didn't hit the spot

NotRightNowPlease · 16/04/2021 16:49

Hey everyone,

I’ve been reading all week, it’s so hard to keep up. I’m still lurking a bit which I think comes down to social anxiety, sorry, I just struggle.

Been sticking to the WoE and starting to feel so much brighter and in control! The water however is so hard but I’m getting my 3 litres down every day just about.

Those that are struggling a little with the alcohol side of things I’m right with you. I’m a recovering alcoholic (not that any of you are alcoholics) and I know how hard it can be! Some of it is probably sugar withdrawals, I used to wake up at 3am and inhale a packet of Jaffa cakes when I first gave up the evil wine witch. Blush herbal tea, mindfulness, long walks and long baths helped!

Happy birthday @BrassicaBabe

I will try to stop lurking but I don’t feel I have much to add. Hope you all have a great weekend

50FootWave · 16/04/2021 17:46

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo

Oh *@50FootWave* this last goddamn stone is a killer. The first 2 seemed too easy, then it really slowed but this last one, by god it's clinging on for dear life. I have 9lb till I hit healthy BMI, 2st4lb till I hit what the online charts say is the 'ideal' weight for my height. I'm going to play that last goal by ear and see when I feel ready to stop, I think it will be when I'm comfortably in size 12 clothes or thereabouts. I can do up size 14 jeans now but they're not comfy yet so a little ways to go.
@HalfShrunkMoreToGo I hear you, we are on the same page. It's so near and yet so far, and although I'm trying not to obsess with the numbers, I WANT to see a certain number on the scales.

You do look incredible. When I hit 4 stone I''l post my pictures.

I've one from 16.4 stone to 13, and am lingering there. Like you my goal vs the charts is odd - 12.4 seems in my grasp and I'd be thrilled, but really I'm lusting after 11.7.

We can do it. We can, we can!

Hotgotthetrots · 16/04/2021 18:02

Thank you to @BIWI , I took a trip to M&S and raided the deli counter for cheese, chicken pieces, some oily olives etc. Had myself a little picnic whilst the kids ate a sandwich meal deal. Still feel full now, but planning on making the courgette frittata mentioned up thread for dinner. Thanks for this @colouringindoors

So..... whilst I am new to this BC, I feel this might the place to ask about poo. Sorry. I am normally a once a day woman, but I haven’t been since Monday 😱 . Previously, a bowl of all bran would sort me right out, but this is obviously off limits. I am eating all the good stuff - lots of veg, drinking ALL the water, but still nada. Any ideas would be appreciated. Please.

StuntNun · 16/04/2021 18:05

Lovely food day for me, if a bit egg-heavy. HA HA HA I REGRET NOTHING. I LOVE EGGS.
B: Two eggs mashed with butter. In a cup!
L: Three-egg omelette with red onion, bacon, red pepper and cheese and a slice of buttered Schneider Brot Protein Bread (from Asda) on the sore.
D: Trout grenoblaise with steamed purple sprouting broccoli can't get enough of the stuff and courgettes fried in butter.

For those of you near the start of their low carb journey, I first joined Bootcamp back in June 2013 and I've maintained a normal BMI ever since. This is my way of eating for life now and I love it. I still get so excited about my food!

StuntNun · 16/04/2021 18:06

On the sore? FU autocorrect!

StuntNun · 16/04/2021 18:07

@Hotgotthetrots are you drinking all the water? I suggest adding some pure fat to get things moving. A teaspoonful of coconut oil in coffee or rooibos tea should help. If not then go for psyllium husk or an over-the-counter remedy.

Keeva2017 · 16/04/2021 18:15

Just to add @BIWI using chicken as a pizza base is my all time fave whether low carb Ming or not. Literally tastes like a parmo. No beating it.

@ouchmyfeet your post resonated with how I feel so much so just wanted to say you’re not alone. It’s hard. But we will get there.

ListenLinda · 16/04/2021 18:36

I think we need a new thread! Grin unless I have missed a link as I was scrolling through, in which case I do apologise!
