Low-carb bootcamp

Jan '20 - Week 8 Low Carb Bootcamp - Springing into March

How has everyone got on this week? It's time to weigh-in and update the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. We had a few newbies joining us last week so a quick reminder to ask any questions you might have. This Way of Eating really works but sometimes it can be hard to see the wood for the trees when you're in the middle of your weight loss journey so let's keep motivating each other.

1lb up this morning. I know where I went wrong though and I can fix it.
Back on it now.

Breakfast : natural yoghurt
Lunch:. Bacon and eggs with spinach and asparagus. (I like dipping asparagus into my yolk!)
Dinner: heck sausages, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and Swede.
Think I'll mash the cauli and Swede together and see how that goes.

Magic March and exercise is the answer for me being close to goal. Another half lb.

Well done, that’s excellent brassica!

Quietly checking back in. Have been off for weeks and weeks with Proper Flu, including associated chest infections, fevers, antibiotics, and steroids...

I have not been low carbing, as soup and buttered bread has been my saviour, but steroids are ramping up the appetite and insomnia and potential weight gain, so time to sit upright, stop wheezing, and get back on the low carb wagon.

Hope everyone's been getting on well here? Flowers

brassica I was thinking that 'Magic March' was some kind of exercise regime and I pictured you in a sort of majorette uniform doing your 10,000 steps Grin

B - coffee with cream
L - egg mayonnaise salad, avocado
D - sausages with courgette & tomato cheesy bake, and broccoli

Think I'll make some broccoli and blue cheese soup to have over the next couple of days.

Don't let him steal your future

Well there’s a meme waiting to happen. Quite. Don’t let anyone do that.

Athelstane I’m sorry you’ve been unwell but you know what? I miss you and your humour when you’re not here. No pressure to entertain me, just letting you know I noticed your absence.

SophieRay yeah, don’t derail on Day 3. I know it’s hard, I do. But think of every day as your first day and that might help. “I’m starting a new way of eating today so I’ll do it perfectly.” Take the idea of that enthusiasm with you every day. Because every day is a first day and if you mess up, every tomorrow is a new day.

Checking in with yesterday's food as I have a late breakfast:

B: 2 scrambled eggs
L: same fatty beef salad as Monday and yogurt with tsp almond butter, few nuts
D: Liver, bacon/leek/mushrooms sauteed, small bit of leftover cauli cheese and swede mash. Amazing, and I'd not cooked liver in years before doing "Organuary" this year! We're having a steak and kidney stew tonight from the slow cooker too, another first.

Just a note of caution on too much processed meat everyone; I'm as guilt as anyone of this (and DH would eat way more if I bought more) but do try to limit things like sausages and bacon (and burgers unless home made) to a few times a week, and try to reserve the heavily processed things like pepperami for when you have limited options for something convenient and portable.

My day:

B - mushrooms, scrambled egg, spinach, hollandaise sauce
L - ham salad, Greek yoghurt
D - Bolognese and cheese with salad

Feeling Bloaty McBloatface today, and headachy. PMT probably.

I feel for you Athel. I had proper flu over Xmas a few years ago. It was beyond terrible. There was definitely no confusing it with a heavy cold!

KOKO CarbyLess. We're all cheering you on.

Dusting off my baton venus Grin Nope. Just feeling a heap better now that February is behind me and the sun is shining.

Work hungry today so had breakfast for a change. Bacon and fried egg.

Sorry to hear you've been so poorly @AthelstaneTheUnready - like Shag, I had noticed you were absent and was wondering what was going on!

Glad you're feeling better - make sure you keep yourself out of the way of other people/large crowds, etc, as you may be a bit more vulnerable to picking up other illnesses.

Glad you’re feeling better athlestane, flu is awful

Battling year end deadlines here and ignoring the continuous goodies in the office.

Report
HerRoyalCarbyLess · 04/03/2020 16:27

athlestane flu sucks. Flowers glad you're feeling a bit better now.

I've got a pounding headache. It will be the crash from all the carbs I had yesterday won't it?

DD asked for asparagus instead of green beans with tea so that's what we are having.

Ive also Ben feeling bloated, especially around the face. No weight change that I know of so wondering what’s going on

Chalking it up to general variations on any given day re my way of eating/diet

Drinking water should help, I think.

thanks, people Blush

not weighed yet, but can't say I feel any smaller, despite a few periods of 48+ hours without eating.

probably because I have barely moved for a few weeks, just stared at the bit of wall by the bed, and the bit of wall by the sofa. Still, I'm going out (oooooooooooo!!!) tomorrow to wheeze my way around the shop. Am all out of my beloved unpasteurised Isigny butter. And am craving broccoli.

RoyalCarby, yeah, too many carbs/sugar in one go, on an otherwise low carb WOE, can definitely give you a hangover. Flowers

@AthelstaneTheUnready , don’t rush and think that you’re better and start doing too much
I had flu , over Christmas 1999 and it took til March2000 before I was completely better , slowly , slowly ( I still need inhalers when I get a cold , I’m coughing now , and keep getting the coronavirus look )
Good day ( hopefully ) today , though a bit low on the water I feel
B egg mayo
L loads of green leaves , cold chicken , bacon and half avocado , with squeeze of lemon and olive oil
D out for a bar snack , had baked Camembert , salami , olives , lettuce leaves , sun dried tomatoes ( 😟) and bread ( which I didn’t eat much )
So , not brilliant , but ok
Will aim to drink 2 big glasses of water now , before bed

Just checking in quickly before bed as only just got home, been a really busy day. Loving everyone posting what they are having/had really great for getting new ideas for a newbie Smile.

Thanks ShagMe - really like that idea. Going to have to remember that.

B: 4 x baby bel
L: was going to an event but stopped at the shop in the way and got two boiled eggs, a pepperami and some cheese slices and some ham (but didn't eat the ham). So didn't eat anything at the event, which only had sandwiches and crisps anyway 😇
D: had the ham I didn't have at lunchtime, ready for bed so not having anything else now
Plus 3 x green tea, 1 litre water, 1 glass of water and 1 small glass water - so could've done better on the water front, maybe start carrying a bottle around with me 🤔

Oh and weighed in at 13 stone this morning! As I was 13s 4 on Monday finding it quite unbelievable especially as I've not even been hungry. And weekend away booked for 1st weekend in April, so have that now to keep me motivated for. How much do you think could I realistically lose in a month based on other people's experiences??

2.5 lbs off for me since Saturday Grin

Picking up my exercise, but not eating the earned calories is working. I'm not over exercising or anything crazy. In fact exercise in jan and feb was so rubbish my running is very slow. A rest day for me today.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 05/03/2020 07:27

Another 2lb down this morning (3lb if you count the pound I put on from being a carby twat)

Breakfast: yoghurt
Lunch:
Dinner: pork chops, egg, with flgv

I don't know what to have for lunch
I'm not feeling well at all
Headachy, temperature, shivering, feel really weak.
So any ideas for a super quick lunch?

Report
StuntNun · 05/03/2020 07:28

Sophie you need to get some veggies in today! Weight loss varies a lot in the first month. It depends on your starting weight and what your diet was like before you went low carb. A good weight loss in the first month would be 7-8lb but in practice the range is huge and might be anywhere from a couple of pounds to a stone.
