Welcome to the January 2020 Low Carb Bootcamp. I know some of you have already started eating low carb so please share your good experiences to give the rest of us some inspiration as we begin our weight loss journey.

Make sure you’ve read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules. There are some shopping list and meal plan suggestions on the preparation thread.

If you need recipe inspirations then there we have hundreds on the meat recipes thread, the poultry recipes thread, and the vegetarian recipes thread. Note that vegetarians may include small quantities of legumes, nuts and Quorn right from the start to make sure they’re getting enough protein. There is also thread of low carb products people have found in the shops.

We weigh in every Monday so add your starting weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. If you’re on a mobile or tablet and can’t get the spreadsheet to work then please post your entry on this thread and someone will add it for you. Some people choose to record their starting weight as 100 if they don’t want to share their actual weight. I also urge you to make a note of your waist measurement as sometimes we can lose inches without losing pounds on this way of eating. Some people like to have a goal pair of jeans or a dress that they can try on throughout Bootcamp so see how the fit improves over time. Others like to take ‘before’ photos that they can use for comparison later on.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. Bootcamp has been running for nearly ten years so we have lots of expertise to share with you.

As I was away at the weekend I haven't done my proper shop yet, so today's food is pretty basic but all good:

B: 2 eggs scrambled with butter in my glorious new pan
L: 1 can tuna with mayo, on spinach/rocket/watercress, tomato and cucumber dressed with olive oil. Greek yogurt.
D: Salmon (the lovely lightly smoked one from Aldi) oven roasted alongside frozen green beans, and broccolli, all with butter.
snack will be cheese, I kept a pack of Singleton Parlick to one side at Christmas as I like it on its own so perfect for this while we can't have nuts.

Already on 1.25ml water and working through my nice 500ml bottle x 3 during the work day plus a few mugs of chamomile.

Pilates tonight.

SilverSnowCake · 13/01/2020 10:12

Good morning everyone. Checking in.
Starting with 100 and counting down.

Breakfast has been two soft boiled eggs and a smidge of butter. Lots of plain water (which I don't like, so am off to buy sparkling).

venusandmars · 13/01/2020 10:17

I'm on the spreadsheet. Got 10lbs to get to my ideal weight so one pound a week would do me nicely. I was a couple of lbs lighter last week, but the weather or my mood or maybe 4 days of pushing the boat out with visitors Wink

B - avocado
L - mushroom omelette
D - left over beef and coconut cream curry with cauliflower rice

Very glad to be back in the bootcamp community and looking forward to being inspired by everyone's meal lists and recipe ideas.

waspfig The difficult thing with nuts is they often come in large bags. I have a few tiny containers for taking nuts out with me in case I need a snack (or get mouth envy if other people are eating crisps). 5 or 6 macadamias, a small amount of walnuts or almonds, eaten slowly does the trick. If I just have the whole bag with me then I'd eat them mindlessly and not actually notice that the small portion was fine.

adviceatthislatestage I'm not vegan but have quite a few vegan friends. I find oriental food works well - Stir fry with tofu, veg, Chinese spices; thai green vegetable curry; or something based on the Jamie Oliver mushroom curry but with cauliflower rice; or vegetable noodles with walnut pesto. This site might give you some inspiration

MrsBertBibby · 13/01/2020 10:20

I find almonds (no fancy smoke flavours) are best. Not as moreish as macadamias or peanuts.

Obviously not till B Lite for you non veggies!

hotcrossbun99 · 13/01/2020 10:21

Hi. Could someone please add me to the spreadsheet with weight as 100? Thanks 😀 xx

Yabadee · 13/01/2020 10:39

Oh hello I’ve found you!

Will go on the laptop and add weight shortly.

Off to the gym for day 1 of week 2 of couch to 5k, and a lower body weight session.

Good luck all

TheClitterati · 13/01/2020 10:42

Fuck I've just convereted my usual kgs to lbs - such a massive number. #JustANumber

had coffee with cream earlier & been for a swim. Now need to eat!!! Will have some quick buttery scrambled eggs, spinach & mushroom.

Biggest shock is I've just realised I need to drink 4.5 liters today - best crack on with that.

ShagMeRiggins · 13/01/2020 11:05

hotcrossbun99 I tried to add you to the spreadsheet but even though I’m able to add in the weight column I’m not able to add in the participants column (View Only) so I’m tagging in @AthelstaneTheUnready to get you started.

whojamaflip · 13/01/2020 11:21

I've just done the weigh of shame after Christmas and it's not good Blush

Did the last boot camp and lost 11lbs and was chuffed to bits - BUT I've managed to put 10lbs back on again over Christmas 🤦‍♀️ entirely my own doing as I ate what I wanted and drank far too much but hey I enjoyed every minute of it so am not beating myself up too much. I've also given up smoking so I know I'm substituting food for fags.

Back on plan from today and I know this WOE works for me so onwards....

DiscontentedWoman · 13/01/2020 11:35

B: Scrambled eggs with a snipped up spring onion
L: Pate, celery, olives, leftover roast chicken, some French mayo (2g carbs per 100g so I think it's OK) - it was a bit on-the-hoof and cobbled together quickly before I have to run some errands

Dinner looks like being the rest of the pate due to a Use By date fail Grin

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/01/2020 11:44

Hi everyone! I'm going to hover in the background if that's ok. I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant, so can't say I'm in the least bit unhappy at having put weight on recently, but I'm aware I'll need to start eating sensibly again soon so it might as well be know. I'll be doing the lite version from the start though, and I'm not adding myself to the spreadsheet.

(@BIWI - thanks for your email a while back. Sorry, kept meaning to reply but baby brain put it out of my mind!)

1Wildheartsease · 13/01/2020 11:49

Back on track! 1 litre water first thing and then butter coffee was my breakfast today due to general busyness and (most unusually), not feeling hungry but the rest of the day is looking better:

plan:
scrambled eggs with spinach/shallott
bone broth (made it with veg and beef-bones on Friday and it is delicious!)
1 litre water

Fish-pie mix baked in oven with veg and creme-fraiche (full fat stuff) served with curried green veg and garlic
rosehip tea
1 litre water

Experimental mint tea. I have one with (legal) cannabis oil -CBD?- in - from Christmas. Has anyone tried it? What should I expect? (Hoping it won't make me hungry or angry!)

Stegasaurusmum · 13/01/2020 11:50

Thanks for adding me!
I'll be adding weight in a mo.
I'm a mess today, relationship stuff, so I have to really be strict with myself about no reaching for the sugar. It'll give me something to focus on.

Teapotdespot · 13/01/2020 12:00

Menu for the day:

B: cream coffee
L: Italian wedding soup
D: home made burgers, smashed avocado salad, mayo, maybe cheese depending if my appetite comes back Confused

Glittercandle · 13/01/2020 12:00

I’m making a chicken and aubergine curry for dinner - I found the recipe online and it’s actually a slimming world one, what’s the best way to add fat? I was thinking I could just add butter to my cauliflower rice?

prettybird · 13/01/2020 12:05

I started last Monday and can report a 6.25lb loss in my 1st week! Smile So for those that are kicking themselves for falling off the wagon spectacularly in my case Blush over Christmas, there's some inspiration for you Grin. Stick to the Rules, drink the water and stay focussed and you'll get back on track quickly as your water whooshes out and your liver gives up its newly replenished glycogen stores. Smile

I like to visualise it like a sponge - it just loves to suck in the water and glycogen but getting back on the HFLC wagon is the equivalent of squeezing it out again Wink

I weighed in on the scales of shame last week at 12st 1lb and am now 11st 8.75lb - so only 2lb up on where I'd got to at the end of the last Boot Camp. Shock

And I've just bought myself a pair of Size 12 M&S jeans Halo And what's more, they fit Wink even if it is vanity sizing compared to over 20 years ago Hmm

My target is to lose 1.5 stone by mid May when we're planning a holiday to the Antipodes (haven't decided between NZ or Oz, or possibly both - depends on how long a holiday ds can get from work and whether he has a re-sit for Uni he's not confident that he's passed International Law ).

prettybird · 13/01/2020 12:09

Glitter - add plenty of butter to your cauliflower rice. It makes it taste better anyway Smile (I tend to fry mine in butter). Also, cook the aubergine and chicken in plenty of olive oil (more than the recipe uses, if that's how it suggests cooking them).

TamingToddler · 13/01/2020 12:13

Oh and take before photos everyone. And measurements. Everyone always kicks themselves midway through bootcamp for not doing this Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 13/01/2020 12:22

Congratulations Time! Flowers

venusandmars · 13/01/2020 12:27

Glitter often with curry I add in either coconut cream (20g fat and 1.5g carb per 100ml) OR some diced halloumi (24g fat and 0.8g carb). Don't add both because it's not a good mix speaks from experience

I roast my cauli rice in olive oil with salt, pepper and crushed spices (fennel, cumin, caraway). Or just roast small florets in oil with the same spice mix. Gets lovely little tasty charred edges.

I also make a sort of 'vegetable curry pancake' - finely diced cabbage / spring onion fried gently. Mix with beaten egg, a dash of double cream and a teaspoon of curry powder. Cook in small amounts, sort of like mini omelettes. They can be made ahead and reheated in the oven. I have them if the rest of the family are eating naan or pakora or some other accompaniment.

MrsBertBibby · 13/01/2020 12:32

Oooh those sound nice Venus!

Off to Morrisons to get some office food. Maybe eggs to scramble in the microwave.

NellNorth · 13/01/2020 12:34

Oh, I’m getting all psyched up, reading this thread. It’s great to read about the first week losses of those who started last week. I’ve done boot camp heaps of times, but never bother with the spreadsheet, as I’m a technophobe.
My husband was ill and out of work for much of last year, and I haven’t been taking care of myself, so I now have a stone to lose. I’m almost 12 stone, and 11 stone is my slim, all my clothes fit me weight. Delighted to get started, and start feeling better.
My top tip, for water consumption, is to measure your largest mug, and your portable insulated mug, and drink mint tea. I bought this mug in Sainsbury’s, and it holds 450 ml- I pile up my teabags in a wee dish, for an evening count, and that usually covers a good 2litres!

Jan ’20 – Week 1 Low Carb Bootcamp – Here we go!
absopugginglutely · 13/01/2020 12:44

Checking in early with what Ive had so far to keep myself on track:
Breakfast: cream coffee, homemade LCHF coleslaw, leftover roast chicken, 1 spoon Saint Agur spread 1.5 litres of water with lemon juice squeezed in.
Will be... scrambled egg made with butter and salt, wilted spinach leaves.

D: Tuna steak, leeks roasted in butter, brocolini and not sure

StuntNun · 13/01/2020 13:07

Congratulations on your pregnancy Time how exciting! My last pregnancy was low carb apart from a bit at the start due to nausea and I found it easy enough to lose the baby weight afterwards apart from the last few pounds which wouldn't shift until I stopped breastfeeding. I found the hardest part was when I was in hospital after I had the baby as the food was terrible. I had plenty of low carb snacks in my baby bag to keep me going but it wasn't much fun trying to survive on salad with no dressing when I'd just given birth! The first meal they brought me afterwards included sugar free jelly! Hmm. NOT what you need to aid recovery.

Checking in. I completely forgot to weigh this morning Blush so I am using Friday's weight. Need to get back in the habit of daily weighing, it is very motivational for me. Also tracking my water using my waterlogged app and already halfway there.
Today's food:
Creamy coffee
Pork Chilli with green bean and mushroom salad, plus sour cream for added fat
Marinated garlic and herb chicken breasts with leafy greens stirfried in coconut oil
Very helpful ideas on the thread so far thank you, am creating my shopping list as I go.
