I thought it would be helpful to have a thread showing other low carbers/Bootcampers some low carb products that you've found. Photos, so we can spot them when we go shopping - but also photos of the nutritional data so we know how many carbs per serving they contain.

I've got two that I'm going to start the thread with, firstly Bare Naked noodles. These are made from konjac flour, and have been part of Japanese cuisine for many years. They're a brilliant replacement for noodles in stir fries or soups - and can be used instead of spaghetti (although not quite as successfully!). But they are very, very low in carbs (and calories) so can be a really useful thing to have in your cupboard. They aren't cheap though, at around £2 a pack (which will serve 2), so probably best if you're using them to make everyone else who's eating ordinary noodles/pasta!

The other thing to beware of is that when you open the packet (they're in water) they smell fishy. Rinse them well in fresh water, and that will deal with that - they really don't taste fishy.

@BIWI cauliflower rice. The whole thing is 10g carb! Very yummy too. I think they do a salmon one as well. Handy for those days when you CBA! I’m on day number 1 and feeling inspired :)

Ooh, this is very useful information!

Please could someone suggest a breadcrumb alternative so I can make fried chicken drumsticks? Thanks.

BIWI · 10/04/2024 12:00

You could try a mix of ground almonds and parmesan? That's what I'd try.

What do you reckon? 2/3 almond? I'll try it when I get back home from holiday on Saturday.

I’ve seen recipes that recommend crushed pork puffs or rinds if you want it really crunchy. I’ve used a mix of plain whey protein powder and finely grated Parmesan with a mix of spices to make a kind of kfc style chicken before, that worked ok from memory, can’t remember how crispy it was though sorry (haven’t made it in ages).

Hunter & Gather mayonnaises and salad dressings.

https://hunterandgatherfoods.com/a/collections/products

Super-expensive but simple natural ingredients (don’t know if they would count as not ultra-processed but waaaaay better than regular mayo).

I have the salad dressings but haven’t tried them yet, but the mayos are divine. The lemon one is strong but I add a little to yogurt with capers, gherkins, salt and pepper and Schwarz fish seasoning, for a lovely low-carb tartare sauce (lots have added sugar). The lemon one would be great with salmon, tuna, etc.

The regular mayo is currently unavailable on their website but you can order from Amazon. They have other flavours too, plus egg-free (not sure of the carb content of those).

They also do no-added-sugar ketchup and BBQ sauce but they’re higher carb at ~8-9g carbs.

Not a product but I can’t see where the recipe threads are - sure they used to be pinned?

Anyway if anyone fancies trying these and reporting back…

I’ve made some with a recipe similar to this (sorry, can remember exact amounts of ingredients, but I think a little less arrowroot than that) and they were really great. It would have been goose fat or beef dripping that I used.

@MrsGarethSouthgate the recipe threads are on the new low carb recipe board.
