I thought it would be helpful to have a thread showing other low carbers/Bootcampers some low carb products that you've found. Photos, so we can spot them when we go shopping - but also photos of the nutritional data so we know how many carbs per serving they contain.

I've got two that I'm going to start the thread with, firstly Bare Naked noodles. These are made from konjac flour, and have been part of Japanese cuisine for many years. They're a brilliant replacement for noodles in stir fries or soups - and can be used instead of spaghetti (although not quite as successfully!). But they are very, very low in carbs (and calories) so can be a really useful thing to have in your cupboard. They aren't cheap though, at around £2 a pack (which will serve 2), so probably best if you're using them to make everyone else who's eating ordinary noodles/pasta!

The other thing to beware of is that when you open the packet (they're in water) they smell fishy. Rinse them well in fresh water, and that will deal with that - they really don't taste fishy.

Leon do poached eggs in a pot with smoked salmon and avocado. Not high fat enough but ok for emergency running late breakfast

mrshoho · 16/01/2020 16:51

this bread from waitrose. 3.8g carb per slice. granted they are small slices but I find it quite filling and lovely toasted with butter.

Also morrisons and also iceland do individual frozen packs of 4 cauliflower rice. I use them to replace pasta/rice for me when doing family meals. sorry haven't got photo.

Hey everyone!

I found these Suzero bars online & they're amazing! less than 2g of sugar & super tasty with nothing artificial in! They kept me on the straight and narrow when I was craving a chocolate bar! Being useless with tech I haven't been able to attach a photo so here's the website I use when I buy my bars! www.suzero.co.uk/

These keto keto bars, three grams of net carbs per bar. I've only had the coconut cashew ones But they are genuinely just like a normal biscuit. I've just ordered the chocolate hazelnut to see if thy are as nice.

These are fantastic Smile. Light but crunchy (sometimes I find pork scratchings too hard) but also melt in the mouth.

I get them in Sainsbury's, 90p a bag, but they're often difficult to find (at least in the branch I go to) as they they don't put them with the rest of the pork scratching type products and instead have them in random strips on the edges of shelves down random aisles Confused

These M&S sausages (97% pork) are only 0.2g carbs per sausage. If you like cold (cooked!!) sausage they make a great quick breakfast and a nice change from the inevitable eggs.

DP and I are doing LC and the number of eggs was causing DP - ahem - digestive issues so we had to think of an alternative. We cook 12 of them (2 packs) at once and keep them in the fridge. They keep for four days easily.

However as calories aren't irrelevant on a low carb diet you do need to be careful. They're around 200 calories per sausage raw, and very very little fat comes out when you cook them to bring the calorie count down. They're good for the fat content though, at around 20g per sausage, so they keep you full for ages.

For all those of you who can't find fresh celeriac, or hate having to peel the thing:

frozen celeriac

OP posts:
BIWI · 25/02/2020 09:53

Frozen celeriac - back of pack - 2.2g carbs per 100g.

It's ready peeled, and diced into small chunks, so doesn't take long to cook.

If you're looking for a meat free alternative I recommend Wicked M'shrooms.

They have 2.4g carb (all sugar). I had them in a stir fry with shallot, red pepper, some tomato. Plus another stir fry of leek, garlic, ginger, kale, spinach. Served with 10%fat Yogurt with smoked paprika (without the fajitas that dh had).

It was delicious. Plus some left over for lunch tomorrow, probably with a fried egg.

Just came across these today (online, not in the flesh!)

popped cheese

Not great for next week, as the calories are too high, but great for when we don't have to calorie count

I got some cheesies to try. They're lovely! The taste and texture reminds me of cheese straws, but it's all just cheese.

I know we are supposed to be retraining our 'sweet tooth', but please can someone recommend any chocolate? With the weekend approaching I do not want to dig in to DH/DS's treats. Thank you!

pilatesmat · 27/05/2020 16:55

Lindt 65% is fairly low carb for chocolate. Lovely too. I've stocked up.

SparklesAllOver · 27/05/2020 17:37

Thank you, pilatesmat, this is my favourite but 51g carbs per 100g!

I'm sorry - but those are in no way low carb. Chocolate isn't allowed until we reach week 4.

And if you have to have chocolate when we get there, then you need to go for a much darker chocolate, so there are far fewer carbs.

This is exactly what we're not doing though! You shouldn't be going for treats like this at all. All that will happen if you do is that you will undo all the good work you've done during the week.

Most low carb guides say if having chocolate have a small amount of dark chocolate of at least 70% cocoa.

What I like about the Lindt 65% is that is has LESS carbs than the dark chocolate.

70% Lindt dark chocolate 34g carb per 100g

65% Lindt chocolate 24g carb per 100g

Of course ideally we don't have any.

But for those of us who are planning to have some it is better to know there are options that are less off ideal than others.

I find having some 65% Lindt in means I can easily avoid the rest of the family's cakes and biscuits and bread and pastries etc as I know I some treat food.
