I thought it would be helpful to have a thread showing other low carbers/Bootcampers some low carb products that you've found. Photos, so we can spot them when we go shopping - but also photos of the nutritional data so we know how many carbs per serving they contain.

I've got two that I'm going to start the thread with, firstly Bare Naked noodles. These are made from konjac flour, and have been part of Japanese cuisine for many years. They're a brilliant replacement for noodles in stir fries or soups - and can be used instead of spaghetti (although not quite as successfully!). But they are very, very low in carbs (and calories) so can be a really useful thing to have in your cupboard. They aren't cheap though, at around £2 a pack (which will serve 2), so probably best if you're using them to make everyone else who's eating ordinary noodles/pasta!

The other thing to beware of is that when you open the packet (they're in water) they smell fishy. Rinse them well in fresh water, and that will deal with that - they really don't taste fishy.

@littlebillie their store locator would suggest that Waitrose is your best bet

I usually make my own meatzza as I like to know what’s in it, but this is a good freezer standby. I freeze it in quarters as I find it serves me four times rather than the two suggested on the pack, which brings the carb count right down. Lovely with a huge green salad and garlic mushrooms.

Ooh - I haven't seen that!

Here's something I spotted in Sainsbury's this week. I haven't tried it yet, and it's obviously not quite as good as eating fresh avocado - but seems like a very useful standby, especially if the pieces really are ripe! (I'm crap at gauging when an avocado is ripe!)

@littlebillie I buy everything from Ocado!

I like dressing on my salad and did lots of research on the last BC to find the lowest carb Caesar dressing.

From Ocado - this is actually really good, and I am usually a homemade-is-best voter when it comes to dressings. You should all be eating a ton more salads over the next few weeks and even the most diehard make-your-own dressing fan will want an easy option occasionally. Just sayin’. And also this is actually LOWER in carbs than the low-sugar Lucy’s version Shock

Re the almond milk. Make sure you get UNSWEETENED and NOT original. It's easy to pick up the wrong one.

Rayna37 · 18/05/2019 18:39

Onken set yogurt: as low or lower in carbs as Greek yogurt (3.6g) so makes a nice change or alternative to those not keen on Greek yogurt.

As a soup lover, I've been trying to find ways of having low carb soups....so Far I've made it in the slow cooker from chicken thighs and garlic with hearbs....had the chicken for dinner and the brae for clear chicken soup for lunch the next day...lovely. I also checked the carbs in stock cubes....you have to be careful as some are higher than others, but yesterday I bought some Tesco's own brand beef stock cubes...half a stock cube and boiling water makes a full mug of lovely "beef tea" soup....and it's only 1.4 carbs (0.7 carbs per quarter cube. I tried a quarter in the mug but it was too weak for my tastes, so added another quarter and this was just right. It makes a lively luchtime "cuppa-soup" Brew Grin

This almond butter from Aldi is delicious and less than half the carbs of the equivalent whole nut peanut butter. I like a spoon in my yogurt or in low carb porridge.

Great thread, thanks for starting it. I don't have anything to add but will definitely be trying the frozen cauliflower rice from Aldi. I keep a packaged one in for convenience but it's not as nice as home made. Hopefully frozen will be better

Can anyone help me with a low carb porridge? This is the one thing I am really missing. One week in to low carbing so I am off to shops to get supplies! Thanks

Rayna37 · 01/06/2019 10:48

@DozeyTwonk low carb porridge is my specialist subject! Be aware though it's never going to be as low carb as eggs for breakfast so you wouldn't want it daily.

I use 2tbsp each ground almonds and ground flaxseeds/linseeds, and 1tbsp chia seeds and 1tbsp of a mixture of seeds like omega 3 mix or sunflower/pumpkin/sesame seeds I put together myself. I add a dollop of nut butter (I think almond butter is lowest carb) and a spoon of coconut oil.
I use regular whole milk but you can use any of the lower carb milk substitutes.
Basically add anything you like but read all the packaging carefully and calculate the total carbs maybe to check it's reasonable.
Don't try looking for anything processed and ready made for you, it's a unicorn. All these ingredients are widely available even in Aldi.
