Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

Delighted to spot Onken set yogurt on offer yesterday then discover it's only 3.4g carbs vs my usual Greek yogurt at 3.7g because (IMHO) it's MUCH nicer!

For those suffering due to curing out tea or coffee, honestly just don't. The milk in 2 or 3 hot drinks really doesn't amount to that much; obviously if you're on 8-10 (eg my parents) you'll need to cut back! Also, not clear on the science but Sarah Wilson in I Quit Sugar is adamant that lactose has a much less negative impact on us than fructose.

A quick question about potassium - sometimes my thigh muscles feel tired. I take magnesium, and use plenty of salt, so I suspect this could be due to a lack of potassium. I know that there are the electrolyte zero supplements, but I just wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a food that I could try to easily boost this. From my own research I plan to have an avacado a day, instead of some times, but I am already eating the other low-carb foods that contain some potassium. Maybe there is a boot-camp lite food that I could try? Or is it simply better to try electrolytes?

Or is my symptom due to something else entirely? Thank you.

Sorry to hear that some of you are up this week - hopefully it’ll come down over the next few weeks.

I’ve finally managed to lose some weight. I’m down 2lb. So that’s good. My stomach is definitely much flatter and I feel like my waist is making a return appearance, which is more important than the number on the scales, I think.

I’m going to keep on a pretty full on bootcamp for the most part next week, I think.

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 28/05/2018 11:31

1.3lb loss this week, which means a 5.3lb total so far, I am chuffed with that as I weighed in at home just now having stayed at my mum and dad's last night and having a fry up this morning, so likely would have been even less if I'd weighed before breakfast! Also have not been super strict, had the odd carbier vegetable, the odd glass of wine and some nuts have snuck in as well. So overall fairly pleased. Happy bank holiday everyone! 😊

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2018 11:40

It's interesting to see that others have noticed joint pain clearing up too.

I've also been wondering whether I have a wheat intolerance. I am much less bloated.

Rshard · 28/05/2018 11:49

Thanks athle for the new thread and well done for the losses and koko.

I’ve had a small gain this week but I know why and what I’ve going to do about it; log my food on here, drink my water.

itchyknees · 28/05/2018 11:49

Have been in th bathroom for half an hour after being bunged up all weekend and have had to alter my spreadsheet by half a pound! GrinBlush

itchyknees · 28/05/2018 11:51

Re the spreadsheet, I don’t understand the total-loss column as mine doesn’t seem to be right, despite my putting in the right numbers.

SummerRayne17 · 28/05/2018 12:00

2lb down this week, 4lb down last week so im happy with the overall 6lb loss 😊
I have been a tad naughty the past couple of days, a couple of malibu & diet cokes, a chicken tikka massala with a few chips and a bit of naan and a cornetto! 🙈

Totally back on BC plan again now though and will continue all week. Ive prepped a bit by cooking the cauliflower cheese recipe that was on here a few days ago and some stir fried vegs.

B - 2 eggs scrambled with butter and a dash of cream, 3 rashers bacon, 2 spoonfuls of tinned tomatoes.

L - Homemade tuna burgers and salad.

D - Burger, cauliflower cheese and veg.

S - Pork scratchings.

Black coffee and lots of water.

Sorry to read some people have gained even though they have been strict. Hang on in there, im sure your efforts it show by losses this week.

Thanks for all the recipes posted and the meal ideas, they really help.

Well, after a grey start to the day the sun is starting to peep out of the clouds, so our plan for after lunch is to take our DD for a nice long walk.

Enjoy your BH peeps!

sushinelove · 28/05/2018 12:03

Eeeewwww 3lb off last week and 3lb back on this week. To be fair I know I've been off plan so nobody to blame but the inner greedy bastard that wanted to eat shit. Will attempt to get back on track again

Iamnotacerealkiller · 28/05/2018 12:12

@ReadingwithTea

with you on portion sizes, my introduction to low carbing was a delivered meal plan bought online with really tiny portions but my god did it work!! i lost 8lb in the first week and i only weighed 13st. im eating larger portions now and so and losing more slowly. as long as i con tinue to lose i will keep decent portions but know there is room for downward mortion.

one big difference was the plan always had soup for lunch. chilli beef soup, mushroom or broccoli and stilton. good idea for anyone wanting lunch ideas. i will likely do this at a later point but will make my own as this plan's soup was blaggggg!!

just goes to show our bodies dont actually need much to fuction.

ReadingwithTea · 28/05/2018 12:37

iamnotacerealkiller yes, I am eating healthy portion sizes, but trying to ‘tune in’ to my needs. I know I would not stick to an eating plan where I was hungry due to tiny portions, or calorie counting. So when I have fancied another helping of something delicious (as these meals are!), I have tried to consider wherever I am hungry, full, or somewhere in between. If I am hungry, after a pause, I do have more, as I know I would cave in if I was starving and end up eating something that was full of carbs. So I think feeling satisfied is so important. Equally, I know that I can easily eat more due to tiredness or just because I want to, so I’m being more mindful of this.

I have found evenings more trying sometimes, as that is when I have previously habitually snacked. And it has always felt like a treat. So I drink red bush tea and water and find something to do. I always have my delicious breakfast (eggs based) in the morning to enjoy, and I consider not snacking in the evening as my own ‘mini fast’, which has its own health benefits.

Waswittyonce · 28/05/2018 12:53

@RuffleBelly, I hadn't lost anything either until this morning, and then only 1lb, which may easily reappear at any point! You know your body best of course, but if its any consolation DH knows someone who is a very serious runner and he swears by this WOE, says his times have never been better. x

UnimaginativeUsername · 28/05/2018 13:11

In non-scale victories, I had to do my bra up tighter this morning. I could probably do with putting it on the tightest catch now tbh as it’s still not particularly tight. It’s a pretty new bra (less than a month old) so it’s not just that it’s getting a bit too stretchy in it’s old age! Grin

However, I’ve just bought two nice new bras, so I don’t particularly want to have to buy more in a smaller size (not least because there’s less choice in a 28 back).

AthelstaneTheUnready · 28/05/2018 13:12

itchyknees, you have your start weight down as 244, but your 'start of bootcamp' down as 249 - should those be the other way around?

LeavingTheSandBehind · 28/05/2018 13:33

Hi everyone, I have stayed the same weight this week but definitely noticing my 'muffin top' is looking better and my slightly too tight jeans are feeling good. I also bought a skirt on sale yesterday that fits me better today than it did when I tried it on! I will KOKO and hope for some weightless last week. I seem to remember when I did this 14 years ago after my DS was born I alternated losing weight & losing inches each week.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Hefzi · 28/05/2018 13:42

Another disappointment today - up 2 lbs, so overall up a lb since starting 6 weeks ago. I'm still on BC and not BC Lite, so it's just a question of KOKO again, and trying to think positive that if I wasn't doing BC, I would probably have regained the 2 1/2 stone I've lost since last June. I won't lie, though, I am a bit fed up with the situation! Like I said last week, I'm just hoping that when everything else settles down, I'll have a good whoosh to make up for it...

BIWI · 28/05/2018 13:47

Just a quick post. Will reply properly when I'm back home tonight.

You need to commit to this WOE. You also need to be patient! The weight didn't go on quickly so it's not going to come off quickly. I urge you if you're wavering to read the resources on the spreadsheet about how LCHF works.

Don't start cutting the fat or worrying about calories at this stage. Unless you're piling your plate high it's not an issue at this stage.

Lonesurvivor · 28/05/2018 14:12

Whenever I'm trying to lose weight and it's not coming off like it "should" I remind myself of all the times I've eaten to excess over a period of time and didn't get the gain I expected. I never got off with it the gain always showed up eventually. Keep the faith in the six years of experience BIWI and others have of this woe and you'll get your payoffs.

sheldonesque · 28/05/2018 14:35

3lb down this week.

I will be an abstainer and doing lite for a treat at the weekend.

I'm not sure if I've got something hanging about me or it is my erratic shifts but I'm really tired and my legs feel like lead.

By the sounds of it I might need catnip...

ItsalmostSummer · 28/05/2018 14:52

Lots of good losses here, and some gains too. I did read that it’s very much an up and down journey so I try and weigh myself everyday to see the fluctuations. Anyway, I am down 2.4 pounds this week, and pretty surprised by that. I am also hormonal this week and typically bloat about now (most people think I’m pregnant) so I am most pleased that my belly isn’t sticking out. (I suspect I have had PCOS most my life but I’ve never suggested it to a doctor despite all my symptoms and begging for help for my very heavy periods - which now can typically keep me stuck at home for a few days each month).
Anyway onwards we go. It’s all looking much better for me and I am pleased the results go beyond the scales. So this week and probably for a couple of weeks I will keep doing this method of bootcamp as I find it works and if I allow other foods in it may all collapse for me as I am still getting used to this system. Makes sense to me so that’s what I am doing.
Best of luck for you all and keep going. We will all get through to the end and see changes and be able to make lifelong choices to help ourselves not go back to how it was. For me, I want to long term stay off grains - I too used to get bloated and farty after eating grains and I am so over that and realize I don’t need grains to survive as the food advertising agencies have been trying to tell me my whole life). So onwards with LCHFs we go :)

LeavingTheSandBehind · 28/05/2018 14:59

I've learnt an important lesson today! My husband mentioned that our bathroom scales weren't very accurate (he weighs in weekly in the clinic at his workplace as part of a weightloss group) but didn't mention how far out they were. I have been embarrassed at how much weight I have gained according to the scales so didn't want to go to the clinic at work to get weighed myself. Today, I bought a new set of bathroom scales and have 'lost' a huge amount of weight. I asked my husband to weigh himself on the old and the new ones just to doublecheck...there is a large difference.

Twoo · 28/05/2018 15:21

What a nice surprise for you Leaving’, just lovely. Better than being the other way around!

NorthernKnickers · 28/05/2018 15:21

NSV - inches off waist = 2.5
Inches off hips = 3.5
Inches off bust (at widest point) = 2

My clothes still fit...this is because I was in denial, prior to this, as to how tight they actually were! Am guessing they'll be good for another couple of inches yet...so far in denial was I, and SO tight were they 😳 (I'm so ashamed of how bad it had got!)

parsleyeatingbunny · 28/05/2018 15:29

I haven't lost this week (and didn't lose any last week either). I did however, lose the couple of weeks before bootcamp started so I hope stalling at this point is 'normal' please say it is

I haven't cheated but have realised that I have to tweak things - more fat, more veg, less cheese..

Well done to those who did lose this week Smile
