Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 - decision-making time!

Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

@RuffleBelly I have explained in previous posts about the fat-adaption process, and pointed out that until you’re fat-adapted exercise will be harder. But if you stick with it, keep eating the fat and lowering the carbs, it will be much easier to do exercise. And after 2-3 weeks of focused low carbing this will be the case.

But it is really important that you maintain a high fat and low carb diet to achieve this.

Just checking in - well done to everyone who’s lost. I failed to follow the thread last week and not so much fell off the wagon as took a swan dive off. I’ve gained a couple of lbs, but still down on the initial weigh-in, so could be worse. But definitely sticking with full bootcamp for me this week.

Well, what can I say. I have effectively put on a 1lb a day for the last 3 days. Been doing strict bc, gonna stay on strict bc u till I have passed a 3lb turd Grin which will be as satisfying as seeing my progress graph reverse!

4.2 down, which I'm happy with :) I've never got my act together to find a tape measure long enough to write down my measurements (yes - I know I should, but...) so my observations aren't back up by data, but for me, the scales drop for a while and then stall, but it's during that stall that people comment to me on my weight loss. So I reckon that during the stall the inches are disappearing - that's definitely what my clothes are telling me - and then when my body's caught up with my weight, the scales start to drop again. Since I noticed that pattern, I find it easier to stick with it when the scales aren't moving.

Welcome, meagain!

Ruffle and farine, don't give up! This way of eating is so good for your health, and the weight will come off. Everyone ever (yes, I know...) who does this will tell you that weight loss is not linear. It will not be 1lb per week, every week, on the nail. It will be some, then none, then lots, then none, then some... but it will happen.

Thanks @BIWI

Yesterday I had:
B: two boiled eggs with mayo
L: homemade guacamole and green salad with oil
D: three chipolata sausages with homemade coleslaw
Water: 4 litres (target is 3.5)
Two coffees with cream
Snack: two squares of Boursin cheese

Saturday:
B: fried egg
L: olives, egg mayo and salad
D: bbq: - home made guacamole, salad, three chipolata sausages and three small strips of pork belly
Water: about 4 litres
Snack: can of Diet Coke and three strawberries

I've also attached the earlier days I listed out for stuntnun late last week

Appreciate any feedback as I can't see where I am going wrong

Well, I'm 1lb up on last week, but given I was 7lbs up a few days ago (injury, injury-drugs, and injury-wine), I'm taking that as a result! Especially since I have managed to lose 1/2 inch off my hips since last week.

I am especially proud of myself for sticking to fully-approved BC foods, despite the wine - which is normally my cue to gloriously derail.

Thanks @BIWI - I have posted what I've eaten most days on the thread each week but I think it's just too many calories for me. I think I have stuck to the rules pretty religiously, I can't see where I've gone wrong. If I could think 'oh I cheated a bit here' or that a few meals were a bit off piste then I'd happily KOKO as I'd understand why I've totally stalled. But I can't.

So for example

B: Always either full fat Greek Yoghurt with vanilla or scrambled eggs (cooked in butter) with a couple of rashers of bacon at the weekend.

L: Chicken with skin on and salad, egg mayo (using Hellmans full fat one) and salad, Tuna mayo and salad. One odd day where I struggled I had chicken, blue cheese, hard boiled egg and spinach.

D: Things like pork belly, blue cheese and cabbage cooked in butter, meatballs (homemade so no breadcrumbs or flour) using 20% fat mince, shallots, herbs and garlic with salad. BBQ with no sweet marinades (no honey or BBW sauce, just olive oil, lemon, herbs and garlic) and lots of green salad. The 'worst' thing I have done is make a tomato sauce but that was one tin of the lowest carb ones I could find (3.6g/100g) split between four people. I've swapped onions out for shallots in everything and the one night we had peppers in something swapped the red out for green.

S: Pork scratchings, chorizo, cheese

I've cut out tea and coffee completely so as not to have any milk at all. I'd kill for a glass of wine after a stressful day but have felt virtuous on sparking water.

I do quite a lot of exercise, I run or go to the gym everyday (my day off is a gentle swim).

BIWI I appreciate I shouldn't have had a diet coke and the strawberries on Saturday night but it was a party and as blow outs go I thought it was ok and still within the overall rules of bootcamp.

Also, I have had quite a few headaches in last week or so, always upon waking up. Not sure if it's hay fever / sinus related or bootcamp related so sharing in case it gives further insight into where I am going wrong.

Well done toomuchicecream
Had tried to post a supportive post to rufflebelly and farine and just lost it (grrr) but I do agree. I find it very frustrating but also remember the non linear progress. I take a big positive which is that although I am wanting to lose (3 stone +) I can at least maintain on this woe, even with dark chocolate and wine and even a few nuts added in, but I can’t eat higher carb foods as well, even if occasionally without gaining. This woe is not forgiving in that way.
I weighed last Tuesday so will post tomorrow and I too need erm a visit to the loo so hoping those two things will coincide Grin.

On a separate note I saw a tv advert for the veggiebullet this morning (from the nutribullet people). It looked amazing for slicing, spiralising etc and I think I might buy one. Has anyone else bought it?

Really happy with 4lb off this week 😊 13lb in 2 weeks! My gob is smacked...honestly never lost so much so quickly before! And all whilst eating butter and double cream...ridiculous 😂

There's some amazing losses going on...I am keeping motivated by all the posts here xx

A pound off for me, am having no problem sticking to this food wise but there has been a fair amount of wine over the weekend. Will try to be more restrained this week!

My app tells me I've got 32lb to lose until I reach my goal. I wonder if this is do-able by Christmas, as inevitably the losses will get smaller each week? Anyway, that's my goal 🤷‍♀️

2lb off. Very surprised. I was craving bread like a loon yesterday but didn't give in, hurrah!

I'm only 1lb down in the whole 2 weeks but I know this WOE will work so I'm not giving up. I feel better in my clothes and my stomach is flatter. I'm confident that week 3 will be the one where I drop a few pounds. Don't give up @rufflebelly and @farine this really does work. I'm not sure why it's going so slow for me either as usually I lose about 6 lbs in the first 2 weeks but keep at it it's so worth it.

Nearly 1lb off this week, but the graph for the last 2 weeks shows I'm going in the right direction. I'm happy with that. Well done everyone. Let's KOKO.

I’ve lost 4lb this week which I’m obviously delighted with, but I totally failed last night and ate crisps. Aghhh! So angry at myself! It was less than a handful (15g ish?) so I’m hoping that the carb hit won’t be too bad. What an idiot though.

@Itsmeaga1n

Of course you are welcome to low carb in anyway you wish however what you are talking about by having the occasional bit of rice or potato could cause you problems and suggests you dont understand how low carbing works.

We cut out the sugar and starch to deplete the body's carb stores which triggers the body to start burning fat instead. usually people will go through a withdrawal process as most people are physically dependent on carbs . By having an occational bit of rice or potato you are not only breaking the diet by replenishing your stores but will likely knock yourself out of fat burning mode and have to go through withdrawal again EVERY TIME YOU EAT CARBS.

result, little/no weightloss and feeling rubbish.

1.5lb down for me, less then i hoped but 8lb overall so not to be sniffed at.

I'm taking a lot of positivs from the first 2 weeks! Yes I've lost, not a lot, but enough to keep me motivated.

My running times aren't great, but again, I'm happy to take a long term view and see how they change after a few more weeks.

My mood is excellent, i'd almost forgotten what it felt like to feel so positive and upbeat. My nails are fab, so much so that I treated myself to a mini mani. My quality of sleep is super. And I thought I'd find the no-alcohol very tough, in fact I've enjoyed it. Was able to drive on Thursday evening to go see my cousin's son at a live gig in a pub, and happily sipped my soda and lime.

Will be KOKO-ing with enthusiasm. Berries and nuts and the odd glass of naice wine may make an appearance.

BIWI in response to your post stating that those who have said they have stuck to the rules, they clearly haven’t. Well I have! No bull. I very rarely drink alcohol anyway and havnt had any on this bc. Only had freshly produced meals made up of veg, salad, meat, fish, chicken. Some cheese, not much. Daily cream in coffee, which I’m giving up until the scales go the other way. I don’t tell lies.

Could it be lack of salt? Reflecting back I haven't eaten lots of salt - certainly not been adding it to my meat or salads.

I’ve maintained!!
60.9kg in spite of 2 weeks holiday. I did maintain lchf except for 5 small ice creams and less strict on the types of veg given lots of eating out.
I’m so so so pleased.
Back to proper bootcamp this week as my holiday photos show there’s still a way to go... (58kg target)

SparklyGlitterPants · 28/05/2018 08:58

Well I've just weighed in. Considering dh spent a week in hospital and I didn't lchf at all that week (last week) I honestly thought I would not only put back on the weight loss from week 1 but would have gained also. I'm still down 0.9lb from my original will. Granted it's not very much at all but I'll take what I can get.

Now I'm off to retrain my bladder again as obviously not one bottle of water has been had recently. Convinced my bladder will leave me lol.

Morning, well done on all the losses.

2lb down despite AF.

It would have been more bit I've allowed the diet coke habit to creep back in a bit instead of water. Back on that today.

Am I ok to start intermittent fasting from today? It's something I find really helps keep things moving.
