Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

A'solid' pound, maybe more, down for me this week, breaking what I hope is a long stall. However, having lost nearly 5 stone over the last year, I've hung around the 160 mark for about 2 months - and during that time, my shape has changed a lot, I've gone from a 14 to a pretty solid 12, occasional 10. My skin has also taken the opportunity to play catch up, which I'm really pleased about - so while I'm a bit soft and squidgy round my middle, there really is no hanging skin. And yesterday I PB'd my 5K :)

For those that are struggling, all I can say is that I felt at the time that the awfulness of becoming fat adapted had been underplayed. Last May I felt I was surrounded by Duracell bunnies, saying how great they felt, how energetic, how much weight they were losing, how everything fitted better etc etc. Whereas I felt rubbish, really sluggish, brain in a daze, itchy, smelly, thumping heart etc etc. And to add insult to injury, very slow weight loss. It lasted probably 4-5 weeks, till gradually I realised I was starting to feel better. I haven't looked back since, and I suspect part of the reason I stick so rigidly to it is that, apart from feeling well for the first time in many years, I actually couldn't face a re-run of those early weeks. It really was pretty horrible.

itchyknees · 28/05/2018 09:18

Morning all! Weighed in this morning and in exactly 2 weeks, 13lb has gone. Grin It’s taken me down to the next “stones” which is a huge boost I wasn’t expecting.

My jeans feel lose - all over, not just in a worn-knees sort of way, and my cheekbones are emerging!

I’ve got bad joints but yesterday I realised that my knees didn’t hurt as I went upstairs, presumably because I’m now not lugging the equivalent of two big bags of spuds.

I have not cheated. Not even when my child’s ice cream was dripping, and he offered me his flake.

I think I’ll stick with BC because I’ve got my head around it so far.

itchyknees · 28/05/2018 09:19

Ilovecherries 5 stone is astounding!!!! How inspirational!

MrsBertBibby · 28/05/2018 09:31

2 lbs down this week. Not bad considering cold and sugary meds. Annoyed it went up a pound from yesterday! But the 13.5 stone milestone is in my grasp, and tbh I think one good bowel movement would do it (soz).

NorthernKnickers · 28/05/2018 09:35

@ilovecherries it's really good to hear you say that about the beginning...I've felt fine until today, and I've woken up feeling awful! I know what it is, so will push through, but I'm strapping in tight for the ride 😫

Headache; brain fog; lethargic (could do without, as packing up my house ready for moving and it's hard work on your own!!); just a bit irritable really.

And my tinnitus is REALLY loud today, annoying the hell out of me (I don't usually notice it enough for it to affect me that much!).

Hope this doesn't last too long...I've planted a mental image inside my head, of a little army of 'fat fighters' marching through my body, armed and dangerous 😊. It's amusing me enough to get myself dressed and tape up another box 🤷‍♀️

bettyblueeyes83 · 28/05/2018 09:42

This is my first weigh-in as I started late and I'm down 4.6lbs which I'm really pleased with. First proper loss for a long time and I already feel better. Carb flu has not hit at all yet though, so bracing myself for that this week. At least another week of BC for me, but not finding it too restrictive at the moment so might be able to keep going a while longer. Impressed with everyone's losses, which are spurring me on!

Titsywoo · 28/05/2018 09:44

2 more off for me. So 9.25lbs so far. I wasn't perfect this week (couple of crackers and some wine snuck in) so will endeavour to be better this week. My goal is another 7.25lb in 3 weeks to get me to 13st. Fingers crossed!

Flisspaps · 28/05/2018 09:45

I'm back on it today after a couple of weeks on the Fuck It Bus.

MrsBertBibby · 28/05/2018 09:48

Ooh, just put on my lovely summery pj bottoms, they were a bit too tight last time, but they're all loose today!

AromaticSpices · 28/05/2018 09:50

2.4lbs down -8lbs something in total

FuriousFifties · 28/05/2018 10:05

3.8lb down for me and I am over the moon, scales now located in the bathroom on tiles, thank you to whoever gave me that idea, doh brain fog!

I've not missed a beat of this last 2 weeks, the water was a struggle at first but I'm getting into the routine of drinking now. I feel absolutely bloody fantastic verging on the euphoric which is a bit disconcerting to those I live with! The windows are sparkling, dark corners of the house dust free, things I'd been putting off are done. This hasn't been me for some time and I'm so much happier.

But the very best bit is my feet, I have arthritis, twice yearly injections and the next step will be fusing the ankle joint so not great. I usually walk with a bit of a limp and it gets worse through the day with strong painkillers if I'm on my feet for any length of time.
The pain is SO much better, rushed about like woman possessed yesterday and I didn't have to stop or take tablets. I have no idea if it's the sugar or wheat but guess hflc eating is an anti inflammatory diet?

To those that are not seeing a loss on the scales, do you feel better from eating this way other than for weight loss? Just give it a little time, the whoosh will come.
Thank you for the thread and support KOKO - anyone need their windows doing?

jalapenos · 28/05/2018 10:10

@rufflebelly @farine

Sorry to hear that you've suffered the twin hits of a stall and lack of energy. I'm lucky enough to have had good losses each week, and generally feel a lot better, but my running has suffered. I hit the wall at around 8 miles and have to run/walk home. Right now, I can't do what I did before.

I know this will improve and soon I will have seemingly limitless energy. Not only that, but I'll be carrying significantly less weight around with me and my performance will soar.

Don't give up. Bank the losses you've had so far, write off last week, and stay positive.

borowren · 28/05/2018 10:13

4lbs this week, so 9lb in total. Very happy with that. I'm sticking to full boot camp for as long as possible. I really want to take full advantage whilst I'm feeling this motivated!
The biggest plus for me is a 100% reduction in my IBS symptoms in the last two weeks. That has got to help keep me on track!

NotSoSkinnyNow · 28/05/2018 10:17

Oh dear. Up 3lbs this week Sad. Still down on my starting point though, so could be worse.

I think I know where it went wrong though. Very busy and difficult week, so I didn't manage to keep up with the thread. Posting my daily food plan and reading others was clearly a huge help. Also, not enough water.

Will do better this week by
1.checking in to the thread every day
2.drinking more water
3.sticking with strict bootcamp for the next few weeks

farine · 28/05/2018 10:24

@jalapenos thanks. It would be easy to write off last week if I'd gone off plan. But I have stayed pretty much on plan for two weeks - with only blips being one or two days out of 14 with less water than needed (but still lots), and a Diet Coke and three flipping strawberries.

The only thing I can think is I need to reduce my portion sizes, which I didn't think were huge but I've always eaten fairly healthily and still piled on the pounds so maybe it is size - I know this is a big reason why slimming world never worked for me either.

I can't bear the thought that the only way I can lose weight is to calorie count everything as I know that's not a sustainable lifestyle for me.

High hope for LCHF bootcamp and it's hard seeing all the other losses and having nothing happen so early on, but I am going to keep the faith a little longer and see what happens.

With the amount of alcohol I used to drink (stopped 25 days ago) I genuinely expected the weight to drop off simply through stopping!

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2018 10:35

Good morning all. Well, if the weigh in had been yesterday I'd have been a happy bunny with a small 1.5lb loss that I'd been showing for the past three days. This morning the bastard 1.5lb is back Angry so I've had to post a zero loss.

I'll keep on keeping on. I'm still down overall.

Twoo · 28/05/2018 10:36

Farine I feel your pain. I’ve put on 3lbs over the last 3 days. I’ve also followed bc rules. This is my second bc and I’ve ate lc inbetween this bc and the last and continued to slowly lose.

I think for me it could be portion control as I’m petite in statue and v small framed.

However I do generally feel better in myself, better than I felt for a couple of years so will koko as this woe does suit me better. I’ve put my gain down to natural fluctuations (and too much double cream) Grin

Sosogoodagain · 28/05/2018 10:38

Had a mixed couple of weeks so am going to do another week of bootcamp (properly this time)

Put simply i have not put anywhere near enough effort it. that's ok, but also not ok..

You're all very inspiring!!

RuffleBelly · 28/05/2018 10:54

@farine trust me I feel the same! I’ve cut so much out all I can think is that the HF part just doesn’t work for me, it’s too many calories.

I had scrambled egg for breakfast but undecided if I will continue. I’m out for dinner tonight at a Thai restaurant and had been planning a salad but don’t really see the point if I switch to a low calorie diet instead.

StuntNun · 28/05/2018 10:55

It isn't that uncommon for people to gain weight when they start eating low carb. Sometimes there are hormonal causes such as PCOS or thyroid, and sometimes there seems to be a healing process required before the weight starts coming off. It's doubly frustrating when other people seem to be losing pounds but that doesn't mean this way of eating won't work for you. If you've been following the rules closely then keep doing so and give it another couple of weeks or preferably the whole ten weeks. If you've had any slip ups then try and keep on the straight and narrow for the next wee while to give yourself a proper chance. Definitely don't start limiting calories at this point.

Bumblebee2302 · 28/05/2018 11:05

I have just completed my first week and am down 12.5lbs - I have never, ever lost that much in a first week (and there have been many, many first weeks...!). Granted, I do have a massive amount to lose though. I'm not on the spreadsheet and my phone doesn't seem to let me amend it, but I am keeping track myself with my app.

ReadingwithTea · 28/05/2018 11:07

I have been following the thread as much as possible with great interest. Lots of inspiring stories, great recipes and useful tips. Haven’t had much chance to post though.

Weight today is a loss of 2.6lbs since last week, bringing the total down to a loss of 4.6lbs, which I a equally delighted and amazed at.

The best thing is that my tum and waistline have reduced, and so my clothes are fitting much more comfortably. As a number, my weight would be considered ‘fine’, however weight gain over the last two years has accumulated stubbornly around my middle. I attribute this to a combination of stress, possibly peri menopause and definitely increased snacking.

The amazing thing about this woe is the lack of a need to snack. For me it is quite revolutionary. I have treats in the house, and I can serve delicious puddings and ice cream to my children and I don’t feel the need to eat them, and I don’t feel that I’m missing out!

For those who are questioning whether this will work, I would really encourage to keep going. Last week I found it helpful when I read some posters comment about not just eating a lot of something because it is allowed. I considered my portion sizes (and I totally agree about not wanting to count calories!) and have took the approach of eating an enjoyable amount to feel satisfied, but stopping when full. I have also stopped snacking on cheese, except when I have to. And I stopped indulging in the Greek yoghurt and cream (that is so delicious, but I’m going to have that as a treat, rather than a staple!!). So generally a reduction dairy, and trying to have any cheese with only one or two meals.

For those asking about benefits, I had prior to boot-camp, recently acquired sore knee joints, and that seems to have gone. I suspect that this woe is anti-inflammatory.

Bumblebee2302 · 28/05/2018 11:07

I have both PCOS and hypothyroidism so always feel a bit like I'm fighting a losing battle.

ReadingwithTea · 28/05/2018 11:11

Just to add about the portion sizes - I have been eating good amounts so that I have been able to last until the next mealtime. I have tried to stop just picking at a bit more in the fridge ‘because it’s allowed’, when I wasn’t actually hungry.

NorthernKnickers · 28/05/2018 11:13

@FuriousFifties you've given me a 'lightbulb' moment! I've just googled 'wheat intolerance' and from what I've just read, I'm thinking 'THAT'S ME'! My joint pain has gone (acute ongoing for years!), bloating and truly excessive wind has completely disappeared (I'm much more sociable 😅) and twice-weekly migraines have stopped (I have a headache today but it's just a headache!).

I'm now thinking that I could possibly be wheat intolerant, as wheat made up the largest part of my diet before BC. I was a bread/potato/rice and pasta girl 😳

Will keep researching this.
