Week 2 - May '18 Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

I love this week, seeing how much weight people lose, and especially as it's always such a surprise for newbies and those who feared that this WOE wouldn't work!

I hope you've all seen good results.

If you haven't - don't despair, but have a think about the week just gone. Look at what you were eating/drinking and consider how well you followed Bootcamp rules.

Any problems, as ever, post them on the thread.

Ohhh, you can't beat a ripe, juicy peach. Such a treat! Anyway....

Lunch today was fried aubergine, mushroom and shallots with two fried eggs. Tasty, but felt a bit more like something to have as a weekend brunch. Which I will definitely do one weekend.

Almost drank half my daily water allowance

bibliomania · 25/05/2018 13:34

Also going on holiday next week, to France. Hoping for some good seafood, which shouldn't be an issue, although there may be a glass or two of vin de pays. Not a big fan of croissants, so safe there.

Trying to ignore the biscuits in the office. I want to get to the end of the two-week strict version knowing that I've done my best.

Pebblespony · 25/05/2018 14:38

Went for an early run this morning & was at a loss what to eat before it. Usually have a banana. Any ideas? I'm not keen on doing it without eating anything. I've low bp & can feel quite faint in the morning.

Waswittyonce · 25/05/2018 14:42

Would ff greek yoghurt be any good

Waswittyonce · 25/05/2018 14:43

Pressed post too soon! It's really yummy esp with a little vanilla Grin

farine · 25/05/2018 14:43

@Pebblespony try hard boiled eggs. Got me through my half marathon last weekend

RuffleBelly · 25/05/2018 14:45

My son literally tried to force feed me hula hoops today. He was on my lap and wanted to share them and put them to my lips and tried to push them in my mouth. Then he ate half a chocolate cupcake and offered me the rest. Willpower is luckily strong today!

I had Greek yoghurt and vanilla for breakfast. Lunch was tricky as we were at a cafe. I had some pork koftas which were the best thing I could find - 5g/100g of carbs and I only had 70g plus a small matchbox sized bit of cheddar.

As my force feeder has not been sleeping I did have a can of Diet Coke while out which is the only bad thing I have had so far - no wine or coffee in almost two weeks! I washed it down with a litre of water and it didn’t make me want any more or crave other food. I know it has no impact on my blood sugar so hopefully it won’t impact my weight loss this week.

Pebblespony · 25/05/2018 14:46

I could leave a few boiled eggs in the fr8dge and scoff them before heading out. Seems a handy solution.

Pebblespony · 25/05/2018 14:47

The yogurt might help with the heartburn I sometimes get too.

farine · 25/05/2018 14:57

Can we have Diet Coke on bootcamp light? And things like tonic water? Just wondering about special alternatives to alcohol on an evening when everyone else is drinking.

MrsBertBibby · 25/05/2018 15:54

I think diet drinks can still make the body act like sugar is incoming so it interferes with weight loss. Or something.

I do 't think I could stomach tbat sweetness now anyway!

ItsalmostSummer · 25/05/2018 16:41

So question for low carb experts: if we are in ketosis (which is primary aim for low carb) how long does your body feel that - fatigued, etc. Does it last a set time? Thanks

RuffleBelly · 25/05/2018 16:45

I feel bad about having a Diet Coke but I was exhausted and it did really help even if that was physiological.

Some people say it can cause a rise in blood sugar which causes an insulin spike. I know that it doesn't impact my blood sugar (diabetic and I monitor it) at all but it can make me crave something sweet which wasn't the case today although I didn't think it tasted sweet itself. I've drunk 2l of water today and have another .5 to get though but I'm going running shortly so I'll easily drink that and more!

Titsywoo · 25/05/2018 16:55

Sorry to be a pain but I don't have time to go back through the last thread - does anyone know the recipe for the cauli cheese using the stalk to make the sauce? Thanks :)

Giraffeski · 25/05/2018 17:05

I did it last night
It was good, it thickened it a bit which I find can be the only problem with a flourless cheese sauce.

I cooked the cauliflower in the microwave including the stalks and inner leaves

Then I heated cream and cream cheese in a little pan until warm and cream cheese melted, added a handful of Cheddar and a pinch of mustard powder. Warmed until cheese melted and sauce smooth.

I then blitzed the sauce with the cooked stalks in the nutribullet until smooth.

Poured sauce over the cooked cauliflower in an oven dish and sprinkled another handful of cheese over.
Was very popular, I made enough for me to reheat but DH ate my leftovers! Grin

We had an amazing breakfast at Boston Tea Party today (is it nationwide or just the south west where we are??) They were very happy to substitute the toast and beans so had sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, tomato (3 small ones on the vine), mushrooms and spinach. Was delicious - and so nice not to have to cook for a change!

blackteaplease · 25/05/2018 17:32

Boston Tea Party are a south west chain. The breakfast sounds delicious.

I am attempting lchf lasagne with courgette tonight for dinner. Lunch was tuna salad.

Giraffeski · 25/05/2018 17:39

DH working late and the kids nagged me for Friday fish and chips tonight so I obliged. The chip shops Greek and also does kebabs so I had a portion of chicken kebab with salad. Funnily enough I couldn't even finish half of it.

I'm not on top with my water today, only had about a litre so I'll get on it now!

MelanieCheeks · 25/05/2018 17:40

Gosh I have no energy this afternoon!

I usually make a batch of frittata muffins with egg no veggies, ham, olives, sprinkle if oarmesan, and have one of those before exercise.

Chicken breast stuffed with Philadelphia and wrapped in Parma ham this evening.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 25/05/2018 17:54

@ItsalmostSummer

Ketosis will last as long as you don't eat enough carbs to throw you out of it!!

The two weeks we are doing are not a magic number of days to get a fixed amount of ketosis just to get us over the carb flu and settled in to fat burning.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 25/05/2018 17:56

@ItsalmostSummer

Each of us will have a different threshold for carbs and what will throw us off. lots of diets work on a 50g per day rule as that will be sufficient for most of us. However this depends on lots of factors and i don't think its a good idea to e.g. eat all your carbs in one hit.

I tend to follow the 5g of carbs or less per 100g and that seems to work for me!

Seafour · 25/05/2018 18:08

Hi everyone, I haven't caught up on the thread yet. Good and bad here today,

Good is I saw 10 instead of 11 on the scales today for the first time after pissing like a racehorse all day yesterday.

Bad is I don't feel well, there is always a worry that this is a sign of an infection of some kind with me so I've spent most of the day resting and being ventilated, my bedroom has turned into a mini hospital with obs being done every hour and the constant beep of heart and O2 monitor, HDU have a bed with my name on and we wait and watch.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be back to normal but I can never ever take life for granted.

Eating hasn't been a priority but I've had an egg salad so far.

I'm getting up for an hour soon because the grandchildren, ex DIL, her boyfriend and DD are coming for pizza night. I will have a baseless pizza with green salad, looking forward to being able to have a fathead pizza next week.

Titsywoo · 25/05/2018 18:14

Thanks giraffe I'm going to try that now :) I've just done a 40 min leg workout which I think I'm going to feel badly tomorrow Grin. Steak and cauli cheese for dinner then plus green veg and maybe some red cabbage :)

ItsalmostSummer · 25/05/2018 18:15

Ok thanks Imnot yeah I guess I am wondering how long till the end of Keto flu. I am a bit fatigued and although enjoying this just want my body to adjust. Thanks for the info.

UnimaginativeUsername · 25/05/2018 18:26

Sorry you’re feeling so grim @Seafour.

I haven’t eaten that much today. I just haven’t been that hungry.
B: bacon and eggs
Lunch: snacked on some chicken
D: pork belly with roast FLGV

I have some yoghurt that I could have later, but I don’t think I’ll be hungry.
