Week 2 - May '18 Low Carb Bootcamp - my favourite week!

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

I love this week, seeing how much weight people lose, and especially as it's always such a surprise for newbies and those who feared that this WOE wouldn't work!

I hope you've all seen good results.

If you haven't - don't despair, but have a think about the week just gone. Look at what you were eating/drinking and consider how well you followed Bootcamp rules.

Any problems, as ever, post them on the thread.

😂 you're right I can't afford to be wasting any water by crying it out!

Thank you so much for your kind words too @UnimaginativeUsernameThanks this is much more of an emotional process than I had expected! Anyone else finding that? or am I having peri menopausal weepiness again?

wherehavealltheflowersgone · 22/05/2018 21:33

Hmmm good point @Yarboosucks - but where could I add it in?

FLGV = Fuck Loads of Green Vegetables like a mix of cabbage, leeks, courgette, broccoli all stir fried in loads of butter

Mueslibox · 22/05/2018 21:44

Thanks!

JimmyGrimble · 22/05/2018 21:45

I managed a 3lb loss this week after funeral shenanigans last Friday. This is the end of my second week so it's been over 8lb overall. I'm very pleased as this is my third go round and I understand that it doesn't work as well on subsequent tries? Last time around I had a massive (over 4 weeks) stall and just lost heart but I'm feeling really positive at the moment. Very little in the toilet department which is a bit worrying though.

Evening all,

Great seeing how everyone is still so focused.

Didn't measure water today, drank lots but think it might be just shy of 3litres. Too late for another glass now if I want to sleep!

Made an amazing dinner: steak fried in butter (yummy fat left on), then in another pan I fried up some shallots and mushrooms and poured some cream on them and made a lovely steak sauce. Also had some asparagus fried in butter. Got to be one of my favourite meals of bootcamp so far.

Going to attempt a Greek style slow cooked lamb tomorrow, with olives and lemons, homemade tzasaki and a green salad.

Yarboosucks · 22/05/2018 22:13

Tis a bad might for the pixies

Cos Yahoo ate all the mushrooms!

Yarboosucks · 22/05/2018 22:14

DoH Night not might!

RuffleBelly · 22/05/2018 22:16

@farine your steak sounds delicious!

@wherehavealltheflowersgone you’ve done well and your meals sound delicious. Breaking a 30 year habit is really impressive. I’ve tried to give up sugar in coffee but I can’t (hence having to give up coffee full stop!).

I’m still worried about my odd lunch. Dinner was chicken salad with mayo. Bit boring but had chicken to use up!

MrsBertBibby · 22/05/2018 23:08

Lunch was my usual avocado leaves and cheddar. Getting a bit bored of that, need new ideas.
Tea was a mozzarella and tomato salad with a roast mushie plus fried egg.

Why are roasted mushies so much nicer than fried ones?

I shall revisit the celeriac boulangere if II can face the chopping tomorrow. And try to get more ideas from the recipe thread as I have a distinctly jaded feeling tomorrow. Fingers crossed for an encouraging dip tomorrow.

Seafour · 22/05/2018 23:12

An emotional day here, in Manchester with DH seeing our solicitor and Barrister regarding his unfair dismissal this morning.
Lunch in the city centre where we met friends for the minutes silence and the cathedral service, very moving. 🐝

Stayed on track food wise.

MrsBertBibby · 22/05/2018 23:16

That's a hell of a day to stay on it Seafour. Kudos.

RedPandaMama · 22/05/2018 23:24

Advice needed if anyone has it! I've been low-carbing for 12 days now as I started just before bootcamp and found these threads by coincidence - so glad I did!

Quick question: does it seem like I'm eating the right amounts of stuff? Averages over the last 12 days:
1600 calories
50g carbs
94g fat
119g protein

Am I eating enough fat? I'm worried maybe not? I'm losing weight well (8lbs so far)) neverry and feeling very well in general though. I'm tallish so that amount of calories is really the minimum I should be having as I'm still breastfeeding 2-3 times a day too.

ShagMeRiggins · 22/05/2018 23:38

Brassica your Before photo is like my end goal photo. So well done and KOKO.

Too much to catch up on, glad to be back. Had 2.4 loss in first week, which is huge for me. More soon, especially my long-term chart (motivation for others).

MumOfAPickle · 22/05/2018 23:39

Sorry redpanda I think I'm too new to this to advise you! seafour that must have been an emotional day, well done for not caving.

My food today:
B: egg muffin
L: chicken & cauliflower cheesy creamy bake
D: steak with broccoli and a few peppers
S: just pork scratchings today

I can't find the libra app in the App Store - is it just called libra? Have people got it on the iPhone?

blackteaplease · 23/05/2018 05:52

Where changing food habits an be very emotional. We have such a complex relationship with food instead of viewing it as fuel. I remember a bootcamp lat year when I had a complete meltdown about not being able to eat my sons birthday cake. For me it was the ritual that I was upset about changing rather than the cake itself. Plus a bunch of childhood memories to add to the mix.
In other news, I may have to set measuring by size rather than weight. We moved into a 200 year old house with uneven floors recently and I still cant get a decent reading. There was a 10lb difference in two spots on the floor this morning.

MelanieCheeks · 23/05/2018 06:10

I agree, food and emotions are very connected! I get irrationally upset when I've put time and effort into making a meal that then doesn't get eaten.

Gave myself a pat on the back last night. I was visiting an old friend, and she had asked if she could make me a meal. I'd dithered with telling her "no don't bother" or being totally honest and saying "I'm low carbing" which might have confused her (she's in her 80s). In the end I said "oooh just somehting light like a salad". So she produced quiche (I left the pastry), a mixed salad with no dressing (I added mayo) and a rather tasty coleslaw. I was able to say no to the bread and wee buns, and it was all good!

B: yoghurt
L: leftover cod and pesto with roast brussels
S: pork scractchings, babybel, egg mayo on little gem leaves.

StuntNun · 23/05/2018 06:16

RedPanda if you're losing weight then there's no need to change anything. If your weight loss stalls then cut down on carbs and increase fat. 1600 calories might even be on the low side as you're breastfeeding but make sure you're eating when you're hungry and you should be fine.

Mueslibox · 23/05/2018 06:21

seafour that sound like a very tough day Flowers

151.2 today! And I was just thinking of giving up yesterday!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 23/05/2018 06:36

Ug had a horrendous night up and down to the bathroom. Think my high dose of fenugreek is reacting to the amount of fat and water I'm eating. I think I'm going to reduce how much I take. Think it will show on the scales this morning I imagine I am now dehydrated.

Will take lots of water and see about replenishing my electrolytes. Don't have any tabs but us there something I can do diy that will help? I have diorolyte but need to check if it's full.of carbs.

Giraffeski · 23/05/2018 06:57

@seafour I've just realised who you are! Smile

SummerRayne17 · 23/05/2018 07:01

@StuntNun Good Morning, can you answer a question for me please? Next week when we change to Bc Lite, will we then have to count calories (how do we know how many) and how many grams of fat/protein/carbs? Thanku!

Rayna37 · 23/05/2018 07:04

Odd food day yesterday. Scrambled eggs and asparagus for breakfast, so far so good. Made a fantastic omelette/frittata for lunch on the journey, but then left it at home. Managed on nothing then ate the Greek yogurt which I'd actually brought for the baby on arrival at my friends' holiday cottage in Wales mid pm. Went out for dinner, calamari with slightly carby coating then lovely "naked" burger with lots of salad. But also one glass of red and pudding! I so rarely eat pudding now I'm not sure where that fuck-it came from. Also not enough water due to travelling. I did run 10k with the buggy though.
I think with only 5 lbs to goal, I'm torn between the logic of being ultra-strict and getting there in a month so I can ease up then (I'm a moderator not an abstainer) or easing up from time to time socially as seems daft to be so restrictive when I'm basically fine, a couple of days delay won't hurt and this last bit is vanity/getting into rest of wardrobe. Hmmmm.

Rayna37 · 23/05/2018 07:07

summerRayne there's a bootcamp light tab in the spreadsheet with the rules. Basically no, we never do that, just a few more things allowed in moderation including nuts and seeds, dark (85%+) chocolate, the odd drink, etc.

BrassicaBabe · 23/05/2018 07:14

For those struggling with scales and wonky floors.... I've put a large spare bathroom tile under my scales. Worth s go too?

SummerRayne17 · 23/05/2018 07:22

@Rayna37 Thanku, i was starting to get a bit confused as to where we would be going after this week!
