Morning all Smile

Well done for reaching week 5, hopefully by now low carb eating should be pretty natural to everyone.

Just watch out for complacency, don't think "oh a wee bit won't hurt" it might!

If you need food inspiration (some people might find they are eating the same things and getting bored) check out the recipe thread or one if the many low carb/keto websites for ideas.

Good luck everyone Smile

Frigglet - iirc, it says to grate the carrot finely, as it goes further and therefore contributes fewer carbs Smile

You've reminded me - I've been meaning to make coleslaw. I'll need to pull some carrots from the garden and get some more spring onions though (used the last of my scraggy ones in my stir fry yesterday) to add to the white cabbage that has been sitting in the fridge for a while now.

Thiswillbemyusername · 08/11/2017 22:11

Meals today have been:

B: the usual
L: mini peperami, lemon and garlic olives (more like a mid-afternoon snack than lunch)
D: marinated salmon w/ salad
S: 99% dark chocolate (luckily not the sort of thing I can binge on), Greek yoghurt w/ blackberries.

A couple of creamy coffees were had here and there

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 08/11/2017 22:21

Hmm. Dubious day.

B- cream of ham and mushroom soup
L- @low carb chilli
D- 2/3 bottle of wine and some McDonald’s chicken selects.

Wine is my downfall!

Hippadippadation · 09/11/2017 06:26

Uh oh Timbuktu but well done for not succumbing to the fries / burger!

Annoyingly I'm down 2lbs today. I hope it sticks for monday weigh in! I thought I was due a whoosh as I was extremely jiggly yesterday!

Food plan today:
L - leftover broc / cauli / bacon thing
D - salmon & veg in lemon & dill butter sauce

FurryTurnip · 09/11/2017 07:17

Reporting in with great happiness as just seen a 10 on the scales only just- but it was definitely 10 and the first time I have seen that in 6 years.

I know it won't last until Monday as I have a weekend away, just nice to know it's possible. And that I don't have very far to go now. My goal is 10.10 (I am tall).

Thanks to all of you lot for the ongoing support and inspiration!

SayrraT · 09/11/2017 07:31

Well done furry thats great Grin

It's funny how you can tell a whoosh is on the way isn't it hippa

We were out for a curry last night. I was sure I'd stayed low carb but I've had the most hellish gurgly guts all night. The dog actually woke up and barked at me after one particularly loud episode! Reminded me of my ibs days. Also felt slightly sick and unsettled all night. I POAS and I'm certainly still in ketosis but not feeling great. Not going to stray far from a toilet today, just in case it all goes badly wrong. And for the first time in forever, I'm craving toast. :(

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2017 08:47

Hmm, what did you have to eat Cherries? Wondering if we can identify the mystery carb ingredient!

Rshard · 09/11/2017 08:51

That’s brilliant furry

Oh no cherries that’s not good

Thiswillbemyusername · 09/11/2017 08:52

Morning Smile

Congrats on your SVs @FurryTurnip and @Hippadippadation

I'm currently sat on a bench on a retail park waiting for mothercare to open to. I bought DD one of those duo-something cameras for her birthday and she's told me she doesn't like it. (I should have really asked first Sad ) I tried to get it refunded yesterday but since I'd bought it on PayPal I had to bring my bank card with me (which I never have on me, I use my credit card for most things). What a lot of faff it is to get refunds with PayPal!

ilovecherries · 09/11/2017 08:56

I had an aubergine thing to start with, then a dry curry and some paneer on the side in a creamy sauce (which they assured me didn't have any flour in it). But I def feel as if I've had a lot of gluten from somewhere.

FurryTurnip · 09/11/2017 09:10

Thanks everyone and well done too Hippa

cherries that's such a shame especially when you stuck to what looked pretty low carb.... Though I went out for a me last week with lots of sneaky root veg in it and my insides were really not good. Very bloated, windy and pretty foul to be honest!

It's made me think about when I move onto maintenance, I might try and do the opposite of an elimination diet- i.e. reintroduce a new food once a week and see how it affects my weight and mood. I know sugar is dreadful for my mood so have no intention of eating that again, but want to reintroduce some pulses and some grains (quinoa) maybe. Was heartened earlier though looking at some cans of beans- much less carby than expected- so can have a few in chilli etc.

If anyone has experience of maintenance I would appreciate your thoughts. I know I am probably a bit over eager as I'm not at goal yet, but thinking ahead.

Have a good day everyone- it's grey and drizzly here, will get my SAD light out and pretend it's summer!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 09/11/2017 09:12

Hmm weird cherries, were any of the dishes very spicy, maybe it was that? Or too much onion?

As punishment for last night I am going to force myself to go for a run today but I’m struggling to decide if I should do it before or after the shred. Either way it’s going to hurt!

I’m going to the States again tonight so I have another few days of plane and hotel food to negotiate. Hopefully won’t be too bad this time.

Well done for the SV everyone. Interesting what you were saying about being extra wobbly before a woosh. I’ll look out for that.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 09/11/2017 09:19

I need some advice. I've decided I'm going to start the Couch25K programme next week if I can get an induction to the work gym before then. I've technically been signed off but am still coming into the office, and was thinking about going first thing in the morning. Maybe use the treadmill Mon, Wed and Fri and the bikes on the two days in between.

Should I eat something first, and if so, what? I've not had breakfast for ages, and do much better for not having something. But am I right in thinking I should if I'm going to do some (very) gentle exercise? Would a lump of cheese suffice? And, if I do do this, will my tummy go down?????

Hippadippadation · 09/11/2017 09:28

Furry that's what I'm going to do for maintenance, gradually re-introduce stuff and see how it goes. Only 4lbs to go to ultimate goal. I can't quite believe it.

Timbuktu running / exercise is not "punishment" - that's not the right way to look at it. Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, something to make you feel good. If you use it as punishment, it takes all the joy out of it. I run & exercise because I love it, not because of what I've eaten.

Time I used to eat before running but actually I don't need to. I just drink a brew or two. I can do about 10 miles on empty. See how it goes though - trial & error. Well done for starting

ilovecherries · 09/11/2017 09:33

I'm doing the Run Your First Mile programme, Time, and I do it fasted with no problems at all. When I finish I have a mug of bullion and 500 MLS of water, and eat about 4 hours later (about noon). Six month ago I could barely put the bins out without eating I felt so weak and faint.

I'm not sure what has upset me - I don't feel 'food poisoned' ill, no fever or anything, and I eat a lot of spicy food anyway. Plus I can eat tomatoes and onions without immunity normally - never a lot, but didn't have many last night. I didn't have the entire low carb discussion last night, but I said it was important that I avoided all sugar and any type of flour, and he assured me everything I'd chosen was fine - and seemed to understand because he steered me away from one fish dish because he said there was sugar in the marinade. It's reminded me when every day used to feel like this, to be honest, and very wary about ever eating grains again, whereas at one point I hoped when I got to maintaining that I could be more flexible. I guess that answered any lingering doubts about mindful off piste eating at Christmas - not for me, it seems. Sitting nursing my tummy with a hot water bottle and making everyone else use the upstairs loo in case I need an emergency dash!

SayrraT · 09/11/2017 09:33

timbuk yes, before a whoosh your fat goes kind of soft and squidgy Confused

TimeIhadaNameChange · 09/11/2017 09:45

Thank you Hippa and cherries - I'll try it without and see what happens. The only thing standing in the way of starting next week, other than needing to pay up and get an induction, is the beastly cold I have. There is no way I'm going to be able to do anything if I'm still feeling as bad as I do now. But hopefully it will be gone by Monday.

cherries - How awful. I'm like that, I realise, if I have too much sugar. Hopefully your guts will clear soon. Hope you don't have to go anywhere in a hurry. x

FurryTurnip · 09/11/2017 09:45

hippa that's good to know you are planning the same approach, and I am also about 4lbs off goal so will be good to have someone starting maintenance at a similar time, when we both get there- soon!

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2017 09:53

Your menu sounds fine, cherries, so not sure what was in it that caused the problem, but must have been some hidden ingredient!

It's interesting to hear how much carby food can affect us, once we're not used to eating it any more. It's a useful illustration of why going off plan is a bad idea, not just in terms of weight loss.

That's one of the things I love about this WOE - all the other health benefits on top of the weight loss. I don't think I have ever felt as well as this in my life!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 09/11/2017 09:58

I know really hippa but running with a bit of a hangover is never all that fun! I know I’ll feel loads better once I’ve done it though- I just have to psych myself up to it Grin

I am now very interested in the squidgyness of my fat. I wasn’t really tracking this before and have no real frame of reference (I mean it’s all squidgy, but is it more squidgy than normal?!) I will experiment and report back!

ilovecherries · 09/11/2017 10:15

Impunity. Not immunity. Bloody hell. My excuse is I haven't put my contacts in because I can't stay out of the loo long enough! (Though it's not stopping me MNing as you can see :))

Rshard · 09/11/2017 10:16

4lbs to go hippa - wow!

I can run on an empty stomach time, not as far as hippa tho! My dd swims on an empty stomach, 5.15 start and they’ll perhaps do 5-6k . She’s starving after tho! Some of her friends have a banana.

Cherrypi · 09/11/2017 11:52

I lost a pound. Not exactly a whoosh but finally the scales have moved. Yay.

Scabbersley · 09/11/2017 12:56

I'm down 3lb this week. Hope some of it sticks!!

Judt had a lovely meander round the health food shop looking for almond flour to make fathead pizza. Finally found some. 17 bloody 99 Shock I bought ground almonds instead.
