Morning all Smile

Well done for reaching week 5, hopefully by now low carb eating should be pretty natural to everyone.

Just watch out for complacency, don't think "oh a wee bit won't hurt" it might!

If you need food inspiration (some people might find they are eating the same things and getting bored) check out the recipe thread or one if the many low carb/keto websites for ideas.

Good luck everyone Smile

ASD - I do a lot of cooking separately too, I have for years, made the decision a long time ago that I'd rather have 4 happy people eating at my table than 3 happy and one having a total meltdown and refusing to eat. It's tricky though, the DCs and I get in at 4.30, DH at 6 but between the 4 of us we go to 10 different clubs and activities Mon-Thur evenings. Hence falling into the pasta trap as it's quick, easy and everyone likes it (with variations in sauces etc). Yolo - yes, DS has indeed got better over the years (he's 13). He is taking far more interest in food and cooking than he used to and is gradually adding to his repertoire. Although as he said to me just now, "how many teenagers do you know that won't eat sausages, bacon, eggs, fish, chips, mash, peas, roast dinner? Not many I bet".

Anyway, I want to apologise for my massive me-rail yesterday and thank everyone who made helpful suggestions. I skipped breakfast today and had an early lunch of M&S deli nibbles (cheese, ham, meatballs, cucumber etc), resisted the baguette and crisps the others were having and am now planning for next week.

Creme - sorry about the morning sickness, I can totally sympathise with the inability to face rich foods in the morning, as per my posts yesterday, hope you feel better soon.

Cherrypi - despite all my whinging I don't want to give up, but it can be really hard. I think you are right not to rush a decision today.

BrassicaBabe · 12/11/2017 14:34

I saw 10.7 this morning! The “NEC diet”, followed by a too busy a day, followed by a day with my mums and family with nothing but carbs available (so had v little) has had an effect. Simple calories in is less than calories out!

Trying to eat mindfully today so as to capitalise and consolidate the last 3 days!

BIWI · 12/11/2017 15:14

@Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es You weren't me-railing at all! This thread is here for all of us when we need help, support or just to moan, whinge and rant. We're none of us perfect, and we all need either just someone to listen, someone to help, or even someone to give us a kick up the arse every now and then! Grin

I was the same Creme, I really wanted crisps in the first trimester and couldn't manage my usual LCHF food. I just tried to make the least-bad food choices I could then got back to low carb once the nausea passed. I have to say I felt brilliant during my low carb pregnancy. At 35 weeks I was happily climbing a steep hill with my 2.5-year-old on my back. It was definitely a lot easier than my previous pregnancies.

Hippadippadation · 12/11/2017 17:25

Evening everyone. Just about managed to catch up. Not seen the thread since Friday evening, what a lot has gone on!

I think the Indian on Friday night poisoned me! We tried a new place, it wasn't as nice as our usual one, but I spent yesterday with terrible stomach cramps (not fun when you're taking 3 6 year olds to children's afternoon tea) and couldn't get off the loo this morning (sorry, TMI.) Barely ate anything yesterday or today, just lots of cups of tea, Bovrils and cuppa soups. Managed to avoid the oatcakes & crackers etc though.

FurryTurnip · 12/11/2017 17:38

Feel I ought to check in after a far from ideal weeekend. I knew it was going to be though, and for me the most important thing is not to beat myself up about it and give up.

Out for an Indian meal last night- had been planned for months and was a special occasion and very lovely restaurant, so I had already decided I would be a little more flexible and enjoy every bit of it, which I did.

I had a thali, so 7 small dishes that were the choice of the chef, so had lentils, chick peas and potatoes in the curries. Plus I ate two roti, which were small and thin as crepes so definitely better than naan.

Had a lovely night, but am back on LC today, and am seeing it as a successful practise session for maintenance / real life when i get to goal (which may no longer be only 4lbs away after this weekend!)

Today:

B: scrambled egg, tomato, mushrooms
L: half protein roll with cream cheese
S: chilli almonds, square dark choc
D: fathead pizza and homemade coleslaw

Not an ideal day, not enough veg, loads of stodge, but was tired and a little woolly headed so just happy I didn't fall into the loaf of fruit bread in the kitchen.

Good luck for tomorrow everyone! Mine won't be pretty, I certainly doubt I'll see that 10 stone bracket that appeared earlier in the week.

FurryTurnip · 12/11/2017 17:40

God that was long and self absorbed! Well done to everyone else and positive thoughts to anyone struggling.

toomuchicecream · 12/11/2017 18:05

Lots and lots of NSVs over the past couple of weeks but no change on the scales. Apart from putting the same couple of pounds on and back off again, for which there is absolutely no food or drink related reason. Or any other reason I can think of apart from I'm due a woosh any day.

NSVs include hosting a party for which I made lots of lovely puddings and was left with a house full of leftovers. Haven't eaten a single bite of any of them, despite giving myself permission to have a night off (also have happy friends and friends' children who I've given as much as possible to). Was told by a lot of people at the party how much weight I've lost, which is the first time that's happened. Went out for a beautiful meal with DH and made him eat all the beautiful hot, crusty, fresh-from-the-oven bread they brought to the table. Also left the mashed potato I hadn't realised would come with my main course and all the crackers that came with the cheese. Went to a conference and swerved all the pastries, puddings, potato salad and just ate meat and salad. Am now wearing my smaller jeans as the usual ones are so ridiculous on me now. And lots more as well that I can't remember at the moment.

Much to my surprise, I've reached the point where I really don't want anything with carbs in it. I'm so enjoying not noticing or being bothered by them I don't want to break the spell. And I've even come up with the perfect excuse for turning them down - I have an auto-immune condition, so I'm telling people I've cut out sugar to see if it reduces the symptoms. It's not made a huge amount of difference over the past few weeks so I really don't think there's a link, but it's a good excuse!! KOKO everyone (and one day my weight will drop again!).

HarlotsWeb · 12/11/2017 18:58

Sorry for flying in to post menu and vanish. Sending love, commiserations, encouragement and congratulations in various combinations.

B Creamy coffee
L Chicken and oily salad
S Almonds
D Mortadella and oily salad.

ChinchillaFur · 12/11/2017 19:00

Happy Sunday everyone. Hoping for some successful weigh ins tomorrow for lots of us.

I have lost nothing for 3 weeks now. I know my jeans fit better and my stomach is flatter, but it would be nice to see some change on the scales.

Like cherrypi, I suddenly felt like giving up this weekend. Can't put my finger on it 100% but possibly started with the school xmas fayre where every stall was delicious looking cakes and chocolates. I decided to commit until next Friday to see if it passes (weekdays at work are much much easier). I did also make the jaffa cheesecake at 5g per slice on the Ditchthecarbs site which did hit the spot to an extent.

Frigglet · 12/11/2017 19:34

Evening all. Haven’t posted fir a few days, but lurking and reading all thread. Lovely to have you back C4. Glad BIWI that you haven’t wielded your stick since your return. Absolutely agree about the support on this thread, which I personally have found invaluable and can’t believe I’ve kept going this long.

Shame a few of us feeling lagged, but hope you’ll get a whoosh of motivation to keep going if it doesn’t happen on the scales. Can’t believe just how quickly we go from one weigh in to the next!! Are we really over half way?? Wow!

I always get the Sunday pre-weigh-in jitters, so a little nervous about tomorrow. But...but, I tried on my favourite jeans on Friday and they actually FIT 😀, so I wore them to work for Dress Down Friday and I felt bloody great!! So that’s my nsv I’m holding on to, in case the scales are stuck tomorrow morning.

Can I ask if anyone else is still doing BC? I’m considering introducing blueberries, but don’t want to trigger my sweet tooth, so holding back for now.

B - cheese omelette
L - Celeriac and avacado chips with avocado dip
D - cauliflower risotto on a bed of kale and olives

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

Gammeldragz · 12/11/2017 19:44

creme I was reading a LC article yesterday and it said in pregnancy you should get 30% of your calories from carbs, so you need about 3x as much as the rest of us (around 150g depending on calorie requirements).

ilovecherries · 12/11/2017 19:46

Tonight I weighed myself on the gym scales, with all my clothes on, and was dumbfounded to see they no longer weighed 16 stone either - in fact they were also in the 12s, to the extent I wonder if my home scales are weighing a bit heavy. I think I've had this slightly superstitious belief that I was only losing weight in my own bathroom, and it wasn't really happening irl!

lurknolinger · 12/11/2017 19:49

Sorry to post slightly off topic, just dipping in to ask Stuntnun which of the Seedlip non alcoholic gins she would recommend- I know you posted about them before but can’t recall which you suggested was the nicer, I’m thinking of getting a bottle in for Christmas as a way of ensuring I can feel like I’m joining in the festivities without the alcohol.

Gammeldragz · 12/11/2017 20:25

Frigglet are we over half way? I thought halfway was tomorrow? 10 week bootcamp? BIWI?
I'm not doing well with water and haven't lost this week. However I'm wondering if the introduction of killer abs workout is adding weight, either as muscle or inflammation fluid retention.

Gammeldragz · 12/11/2017 20:27

frigglet sorry, some of that post went missing. Congratulations on the jeans victory. I'm mostly BC still as no fruit or alcohol. Have had nuts but none this week.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 12/11/2017 20:43

I'm still no fruit or alcohol but I have been eating nuts and very tiny amounts of carby food occasionally. For example DS made some Brownies for the first time and I had a piece about 1x0.5". I am definitely not losing the taste for or interest in carbs, but I am finding I appreciate them much more when they are very strictly rationed.

CremeDeSudo · 12/11/2017 20:53

Some pom bears have really hit the spot Blush

Don't they say your body craves what it needs when you're pg? Not sure how that worked with the Haribo cravings last time round Grin

ASDismynormality · 12/11/2017 20:57

creme I do think you are doing the right thing by listening to your body during pregnancy, I'm sure you
will be able to LCHF again when the morning sickness subsides.

frig I'm being quite strict at the moment, no fruit nuts or dairy.

Frigglet · 12/11/2017 20:58

You’re right Gammeldragz, but I’m already in bed and counting today as tomorrow 😀😀. Ev’ry little helps!

Lizard202 · 12/11/2017 21:44

It is so funny how much this WOE changes you. I baked three cakes this weekend for a kids birthday party and usually would have been "tasting" a significant portion of each but did not feel tempted in the same way. I always considered myself to have a really sweet tooth but am not missing it in the way I expected. I also resisted the end of the baguette covered in butter (which was always my favourite) so some definite NSVs this weekend. My first small glass of white wine to combat the house of screaming kids (but which gave me horrendous heartburn) and a 1 inch cube of birthday cake my only concessions to a birthday party yesterday.

Today:
B fasting
L spinach, mushroom and cheese omelette
D some chicken omelette and chicken with ginger & spring onions (from the Chinese takeaway / I'm hoping that this was a low carb option but would be interested to know what you guys normally go for)

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 12/11/2017 21:50

We had Chinese takeaway last week Lizard. Similar to you we had vegetable egg Foo Yung, chicken with ginger and garlic (ours is in a soft batter which peels off easily), king prawns and veg in some sort of sauce. I think the main things to avoid are batter and sweet and sour sauce. And prawn crackers.

prettybird · 12/11/2017 21:53

For cherrypi and others who might be concerned about an increase in weight: I was up over a lb closer to two Blush this morning Shock ..... but I know that yesterday I didn't have enough water (was at the Scotland v Samoa match and wasn't able to catch up on my water intake once I got home), so today I've been making a conscious effort to drown myself in drink more water.

My upward weight fluctuations can almost always be put down to either not enough water the day before or too much wine Wine Blush As long as I remain true to this WoE and drink plenty of water in the following days, it usually re-balances.

This Boot Camp I have been really focussed gives self a pat on the back Wink - the longer I go, the easier it gets Grin (I have a bar of Lindt 90% chocolate that I bought over 2 weeks ago and have only eating 2 pieces from it Shock)

One of the things I've noticed about the difference between Boot Camps when I've achieved my targets and those where I've dropped off the wagon has been the extent to which I've engaged. If I'm involved, it helps keep me "in the zone" Smile

I turned down a just-cooked croissant yesterday morning - ate 3 slices of cheese instead Confused. Instead, I remembered to take a couple of babybels and pepperami with me to Murrayfield - and to smuggle in a 500ml bottle of water Grin
