Good morning Flowers

So the last thread reached 1000 posts. I don't think that's ever happened on any other Bootcamp! It's a really good sign that everyone is engaged in the process, even if it's not always been from a positive place. If things aren't working for you, please keep reading and posting - even if you just lurk, hopefully the support and advice here will be helpful for you.

But it's a glorious day again, and the sun is shining brightly already and the birds are singing their hearts out. I hope that this translates into positivity and optimism for all of us this week - even if you've been struggling!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

We're past the dreaded weeks 4 and 5 now, so hopefully things will start to get going in the right direction, and you should see the weight move downwards - assuming, of course, that you aren't cheating or allowing carb creep.

Good luck everyone

Well 6lb off for me so well chuffed with that! 1st week though. 😉

prettybird · 19/06/2017 10:46

Meant to say I tried the IPD Butter Chicken from the BootCamp Recipe thread last week. It was yummy - and dh and ds have asked me to make it again Smile (They had it with rice and buttered mangetout - I had it with buttered cauliflower instead of rice although florets rather than "rice" as I couldn't be bothered blitzing it )

C4pinkwheels · 19/06/2017 10:48

I'm 2.00lb down, I'm ok with this.

KOKO but all this talk of dairy is making me think maybe I should cut back a bit on cheese and I am going to call go about switching to no sugar morphine.

C4 2lb is a good loss, especially at this stage Star

BIWI · 19/06/2017 11:03

Here's the bit from The Diet Doctor again, about why dairy (and also nuts) could interfere with weight loss:

^11. Eat less dairy products and nuts
Can one eat as much as one likes, and still lose weight? Yes, it tends to work just fine with a low-carbohydrate diet, as appetite regulation happens effortlessly.^

However, despite the fact that a low-carbohydrate diet generally makes it easy to eat just enough, there are foods classified as low carb which become a problem in larger quantities. If you find yourself having a hard time losing weight on a low carb diet, you could try to be more careful with:

Dairy products (yoghurt, cream, cheese)
Nuts
Dairy products all contain a varying amount of lactose (the milk sugar), which slows down weight loss. What’s more, part of the protein in milk generates an insulin response, which can have the same effect. Consequently, cutting back on dairy products may accelerate weight loss. This applies especially to dairy products typically lacking in fat, such as regular milk and different yoghurts, but be careful with full-fat dairy such as cream and cheese all the same.

Exempt from all these dairy product warnings is butter, which is almost pure fat. Butter may be consumed liberally as desired.

Nuts, which are the second food to watch, contain a fair amount of carbohydrate, and it’s very easy to unwittingly scarf down large quantities. Cashew nuts are among the worst carb-wise – you’ll find that they contain around 20% carbohydrate by weight. For someone following a strict LCHF diet with a 20 grams of carbs per day allowance, this means that consuming 100 grams (which happens in a flash!) will have filled their daily quota. Peanuts tend to be around 10-15% carbohydrate – not putting them in the clear either

So, for those of you having trouble losing weight: use nuts sparingly. When in a situation where nuts are an absolute must, know that the most harmless ones carb-wise are macadamia nuts (usually around 5% carbs), or Brazil nuts (around 3%).

Well done all those who have a loss on the scales this morning and KOKO to all those who haven't or who aren't weighing.

Mandelinka when I have been in deep ketosis (for example during Ubercamp) I feel nauseous and jittery. Possibly it would pass if I ate very low carb all the time, the same as carb flu, but I've never done it for long enough to find out. The take home message is not to worry about whether you're in ketosis or not, it isn't necessary to lose weight.

Naschkatze on dairy, in some people the cows milk protein is hyperinsulinogenic, meaning you release more insulin than you need to deal with the glucose in your meal. While we usually call LCHF a low carb way of eating it is more technically a low insulin way of eating. Higher levels of insulin limit the amount of fat than can be released from fat cells. So in some people eating a lot of dairy can raise your insulin levels too high and thus prevent you from losing weight effectively. Note that it is the protein that causes the issue which is why butter and ghee are both okay - they are mostly fat and only contain tiny amounts of protein.

GoodBad 4lb on in 4 days = water retention. It's impossible to gain fat that quickly.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 19/06/2017 11:16

I am showing a 5lb gain. Not possible.

I am changing the batteries in my scales, going to do a poo (5th day without today Angry), and figure out how not to retain water. Hmm

I will weigh in tomorrow and post. Bloody demotivating.

Naschkatze · 19/06/2017 11:23

Well done everyone! Star

I've gained 1lb this morning. I'm telling myself it's my boobs, which are now humongous, as my milk supply seems to have gone a bit mad in this heat! Grin Although it's more likely the chocolate cake cheat from last week. Sad
It's 2lbs off since the start of BC which I guess considering I don't have too much to lose and I wanted the loss to be steady is okay.. On a more positive note, I've lost 2 inches from my waist and 1 from my hips!

Stunt Thanks for the dairy science - going to reduce it this week. I'm interested that you didn't like the feeling of being in ketosis. I'm still feeling quite lightheaded on standing a few hours after meals. I'm not hungry, just start to feel a bit unwell. I usually take this as a sign to drink more and snack but obviously that's not ideal on BC.

Happy week 5 everyone!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 19/06/2017 11:26

Thanks, BIWI - that's really very interesting.

Mandelinka · 19/06/2017 11:27

hippa
Well done on the shred, I don't like level 2 at all. Nearly made it to level 3 this spring when I was toning up for my holiday. I am on my day 2 level 1 only, I've been mixing it up with jogging. So taking it slow

RedBeanie · 19/06/2017 11:29

Well done on the losses all!

Quick question, are these crackers allowed? I'm thinking with a dollop of butter and cheese may be once a day?

Mandelinka · 19/06/2017 11:31

Chipsandonionrings
Would you mind posting the bagel recipe? My boys love bagels and have them everyday, nice LC bagel with cream cheese and poached egg is my dream Blush

Mandelinka · 19/06/2017 11:33

1.5 loss for me, total 5.1 since the start.

I am so happy with the progress, my inner skinny Mandelinka is bursting out Grin

styledilemma · 19/06/2017 11:34

No weight loss this week, but I'm happy. I'm almost at my target weight, so I'm happy for it to come off really slowly now.
Also I had wine yesterday, so am pleased I haven't put anything on.

Mandelinka · 19/06/2017 11:37

Btw
Well done all, some incredible losses are being mentioned. Looks like we really got through the dreaded weeks 3 and 4 in great spirits and slimmer bodies Flowers

styledilemma · 19/06/2017 11:43

Clear don't give up.
It could be a bit of water retention.

styledilemma · 19/06/2017 11:48

I'll be glad when it gets a bit cooler. I don't feel like doing exercise in this heat. I was running 3x a week, but this heat is draining me, Shock plus I don't think the quality of sleep is that good when it's hot and stuffy which makes me want to excercise even less because I'm tired.
But, enough of the Pity Party.
Well done to those who have lost this week and to those of us who have stayed the same or put a few pounds on, never mind.
It's a Brand New Week, so KOKO Flowers

OldBooks · 19/06/2017 11:49

Morning you lovely losers! I have taken the battery out of the scales so no weight this morning. I will check at the end of bootcamp but I have given myself a talking to and reminded myself that an arbitrary number on the scales is not my goal.

My goal is to live healthily with PCOS and I think this WOE will help me do that

So in a way my scales weight doesn't matter so much. I am going to make a real effort to reduce dairy this week, I can't cut it out altogether as I enjoy it and I will take slower weight loss in return for the pleasure. But I will significantly limit it and see what happens.

KOKO Namaste Bitches! Grin

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/06/2017 11:51

Morning all - just under 1lb off for me, 4.8lbs off in total. I was half a pound lighter yesterday though, always put it on overnight on a Sunday.

Anyhoo, slow and steady, am getting there, the trend is downward as my graph shows. Have promised myself a new pair of shoes once I hit the 130s. Well done to everyone else Smile

NSV: cooked a roast dinner for my family yesterday and stuck to the meat and veg. No roast potatoes or Yorkshire puds for me. Made choc mousse for pudding with v dark choc and had that with some raspberries and cream, was delicious.

I also went round to a friend's for dinner last night. Had a small glass of red, sverved the mash that was served with steak and veg and then pudding came out: choc tarts with white choc/ cream filling topped with raspberries. I said they looked delicious, apologised for being awkward and just ate the raspberries. My friends did try to get me to eat one - it's small, it won't do you any harm, etc etc - but I stood firm. Was very proud of myself!

Week 5 - Low Carb Bootcamp chat - and we reach the half way point!
ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 19/06/2017 11:52

Morning!

Congratulations on all the losses!

I've been festivaling this weekend. I was badly organised on Saturday so ended up eating and drinking quite a bit of carby stuff. Yesterday I made a giant low carb picnic, and took gin and soda water but I still ended up drinking a few cans of Red Stripe Blush

I was saying to DP earlier though - even though I cheated, a alot, I still consumed way less than I normally would at an event like that. I normally would of eaten crisps and drank lager for 12 hours straight every day!

Anyway I was expecting to gain a few pounds because of this weekend - but I've lost 1 pound! I'm 11st7 now which I believe just puts me in the 'healthy' weight bracket.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/06/2017 11:59

style it is bloomin' hot for running. I'm WFH today so took myself off for a 25 min run just before 10am - was a sweating, dripping mess by the time I got back.

thenightsky · 19/06/2017 12:00

After 3 weeks of staying the same, I've shifted 2lb this week! Hurray!

Been pretty easy to drink gallons of water with ice cubes during this hot weather. Also, lots of green salad and crustless quiche or frittata.

Did allow myself some strawberries with a slosh of double cream on Saturday evening.
