Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

Odd day today in that I ended up eating out for lunch and dinner unexpectedly, overall I think I did quite well

Breakfast- FF Greek yoghurt, coffee and cream
Lunch- avocado burger, no bun and salad.
Dinner- grilled chicken with large salad, oily dressing and mint and yoghurt sauce.

I only drink water apart from one coffee with a dash of milk (FF) when out.

lisbapalea · 15/10/2015 07:01

Sorry haven't posted much been a crazy week.

Tuesday was a massive work day for me and from a bootcamp point of view I shan't be dwelling on it...

Yesterday was good though:
B - scrambled eggs with butter and smoked salmon
L - fish soup with aioli and cheese (dd2 got my croutons)
D - tandoori lamb with aubergine curry at a family meal - my parents looked at me like I was mad as they tucked into rice and naan!

Now, are nut butters off limits in the first two weeks? If so I should probably shut up but I just discovered a great breakfast - ff Greek yog, mixed with coyo and about a tsp of almond butter stirred through. It's lovely but I feel like it might be something I should be eating in two weeks' time? If that's the case then please ignore my recommendation!

SayrraT · 15/10/2015 07:28

sheba I think that this can be down to lacking in some mineral (but I can't remember what) possibly potassium or magnesium. Are you adding extra salt (LoSalt contains potassium as well) to your food? Maybe try that if not. I'm sure BIWI will be along soon to answer as well.

Sorry regenerationfez we don't mean to pick on you!! Grin

lisbapalea that does sound tasty, I love cashew and almond butter but not a fan of peanut. Unfortunately though you are correct and it is a BClite breakfast not BC.

I can't wait for BClite as I want to start having my coconut porridge again, it's cold and dark here in the mornings now Sad

CalmYoBadSelf · 15/10/2015 07:39

I have been very organised this week and cooked food in advance so I don't come in from work ready to eat the first thing I find and derail myself
Yesterday was:
Minute steak and creamy scrambled eggs
Homemade vegetable soup with chicken to nibble on
IPD meatball stroganoff (very nice!) with swede mash and green beans

I was a bit naughty and ate 4 sugar free sweets I found in my kitchen drawer but at least it wasn't the major damage kind of naughty Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 15/10/2015 08:50

Minute steak for breakfast sounds amazing, Calm!

Ran out of tomatoes so my planned Greek salad for lunch has turned into coconut and butternut squash soup from the freezer. I know butternut squash isn't strictly Bootcamp but it was less than half a squash between about 5 servings, chunks of coconut, coconut milk and vegetable stock, I think. Dinner is supposed to be broccoli and stilton soup - lots of soup today!

Another 1.25 lbs down today - that's 2.25 lbs in 3 days. Hooray!

glenthebattleostrich · 15/10/2015 08:59

Morning all.

I have yet another horrible cold :( I'm trying hot water and lemon to try to clear my sinuses but any remedies and low carb chicken soup recipes would be welcome.

Food plan today -

B chai tea with coconut oil and cream, FF Greek yogurt
L out today, so probably chicken wings with your cream
T no idea, busy evening so probably meats, cheese and salad.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to eat nearish Piccadilly station in Manchester? Taking DD to see Disney on ice on Saturday so need a recommendation so I can avoid fast food! I'll be taking 'safe' snacks too, but promised DD a nice meal out.

StoneFoxMama · 15/10/2015 09:03

SayrraT what is coconut porridge made with? Please can I have the recipe for bc lite.
Does anyone know if chia seeds ok for porridge in bc lite? I know they are on par with flaxseeds in terms of fibre levels offsetting carb content. Would be so nice with double cream and almond milk.

Yesterday was good
Coffee double cream and lc soy latte
Bacon chicken avocado salad
Tricolor salad
Chunk of goats cheese

Today
Coffee double cream and lc soy latte
Lc chipolata, 2 hard boiled eggs, butter and avocado
Lamb and aubergine curry

StoneFoxMama · 15/10/2015 09:09

Also I think I've done the spread sheet wrong, my weight is only appearing in one box and everyone elses in two.

lavenderhoney · 15/10/2015 09:17

I have been overtaken by events and forgot this had started- so I'm late to the party. I'll weigh in tomorrow morning and start today.

I am already eyeing the water and I'm off the gym later so hopefully it will be ok, and I'll catch up with everyone easily.

AStoneBeforeChristmas · 15/10/2015 09:19

The 2 day headache seems to nearly have gone!

AStoneBeforeChristmas · 15/10/2015 09:21

And just FYI, the builder has been in our downstairs toilet a little longer than normal. I so hope he's not having a poo!

Tootyfilou · 15/10/2015 09:58

Hi all, late to the party here too. Long weekend in London and Tuesday...well just could not get into the groove. Yesterday fine though. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Leaves and Tuna mayo for lunch, chicken, goats cheese and spinach salad for dinner. Coffee with cream x2, 3 litres of water.
Feel fine although already have that revolting taste in my mouth!
Sunday may be slight problem, we are continuing 18th birthday celebrations for DS. DH booked a meal for entire family in very nice Indian resturaunt where we will be eating off the taster menu.
I would also love recipie for coconut porridge, really miss my porridge.

debka · 15/10/2015 10:07

Good day yesterday, was at a conference all day with ridiculously carby lunch laid on, I had a good breakfast (mushrooms, bacon, eggs fried in butter) and took some pork scratchings for lunch. Dinner was roast chicken, cauli cheese, green veg and baby sweetcorn.

Similarly to others I am also just not as hungry as normal, and not feeling the FEED ME BISCUITS cravings that normally strike when I am at home. It's a great feeling, being able to get on with mumsnetting work without thinking about food constantly.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 15/10/2015 13:06

Hi GLEN, my chicken soup recipe is

Stock made from bones and wings in the slow cooker for 12 hrs - with a splash of vinegar. Roast bones first, then after simmering allow to cool and skim off some of the fat.

Fry some shallots in garlic and ginger. Add stock, 1tbsp or so of soy sauce and oyster sauce. Add in any leftover chicken meat.

If you have a cold add more ginger, works a treat. I am mid making - its a bit of a labour of love!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 15/10/2015 13:09

Its going well for me today but not enough water as i have THE BREATH, its bad when you know your own breath stinks!!

Green smoothie and BPC for breakfast. Lunch was 50% lamb bone broth with 50% parsnip and cauli soup.

Dinner will be gammon steak, salad and cucumber. Plus lots more water and teeth brushing!

ChesterDawers · 15/10/2015 13:20

Glen we went to Manchester a few weeks ago and ate at a really nice burger joint in Picadilly Gardens here. They had a 'skinny' option which was basically a bunless burger, loads of good LC toppings, courgette fries (not sure if they are coated with anything though) and coleslaw. Food was lovely.

Tootyfilou · 15/10/2015 13:27

Just had my first ever coyo, delish!

Huntthepigsear · 15/10/2015 13:38

What is coyo?

Tootyfilou · 15/10/2015 13:59

Its coconut yogurt, made with coconut (Wink) and live vegan friendly cultures. Its dairy, sugar free and high in protien.
Honestly really really delicious.
How many are we allowed per day?

glenthebattleostrich · 15/10/2015 14:22

Thank you. DH tasked with bringing home some wings.

That restaurant looks perfect

regenerationfez · 15/10/2015 14:31

It's Ok Sayrra Do your worst! I need it!

Well, there wasn't any cold meats at my breakfast meeting today, but I did have some egg muffin things before I went and had coffee and Greek yogurt there. It was someones birthday party there though, and I felt bad about not taking any cake ( Yes really!!!) so took a tiny piece. I didnt feel like shoving the entire plate of pastries in my gob like i usually do at a buffet either, which was a great feeling!

I had a bacon and broccoli omelette with salad for lunch when I got home and I have some low carb sausages defrosting for dinner and am just contemplating what to have with them. Maybe celeriac mash and cabbage...

AndTheBandPlayedOn · 15/10/2015 16:00

A bit of mild carb flu here, but I'm feeling better today. TMI, sorry, but same as last time a period showed up yesterday. I'm peri/menopausal so I'm not on a regular schedule anyway.

B-full fat Greek yogurt
L-salad with mixed greens, olives, pickles, green peppers, fatty dressing.
D-pork chop, roasted broccoli, and I may bake some cheese crackers.
Yoga already done for the day and cleaning out the garage will be more exercise.

Tootyfilou · 15/10/2015 16:19

Can we have chewing gum? Not a fan, but longing to get rid of this horrible taste. Or is it banned because of sweetners? ( i fear this may be the case). I am drinking gallons but it does not seem to be improving.

Wombatinabathhat · 15/10/2015 18:30

I think it's no to the chewing gum because of the sweeteners.

B: Ham and hm mayo
L: Pork curry/ff greek yog
D: Omelette and bacon

No snacks
1 coffee with cream

Huntthepigsear · 15/10/2015 18:52

Thanks Tooty, sounds lovely. Where do you buy it from? Can't see any at Sainsbury's online, where I get most of my shopping from.
Had another good day
B - FF Greek yoghurt and a hard boiled egg, 2 coffees with cream
L - frittata again with green salad and dressing
D - will be a salad with tuna steaks
S - FF yoghurt

I have done the 11th day of a 12 day stint at work and usually I'm about on my knees by this stage. I really can't get over how good I feel. Can't really put a finger on how I feel better, but I do. And it's great. Grin
