Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

Yes I am BIWI, I will get a picnic from M&S as you suggest and just be as careful as possible. No bread or frites! Grin

SayrraT · 14/10/2015 20:00

Sweet potato is not on the list because it's not allowed Grin but I can add it.

Palomb · 14/10/2015 20:19

Someone else mentioned struggling to eat on this WOE and I feel the same. I have no appetite really and haven't really eaten much all day and don't feel hungry in the slightest.

B nothing
L nothing
T roast lamb with sautéed spinache, onion, chilli and garlic and a creme fresh and Parmesan cheese sauce.

At least ten cups of tea and several cans of diet coke.

I have low carbed on and off for the last year and a half and go through this every time. Food. Meh.

Liveinthepresent · 14/10/2015 20:36

Hello all am just belatedly checking in for the first time since day one.
Weigh in has focused my mind as I am 5 lbs more than my post bootcamp lowest - which isn't too bad but does reinforce that I need the support of bootcamp to get me back on track and losing instead of gaining.
Anyway so far am doing ok - have been really hungry so feel like I am eating loads but will see how the next few days go and post my daily consumption for your comments if it doesn't settle down!
Does anyone use a Fitbit or similar - am monitoring steps a bit on my iPhone and wondering if just focus sing on this would also help a bit ?
Off to eat slow cooked beef, kale and celeriac mash. Yum!

SayrraT · 14/10/2015 20:37

palomb although it is usual to lose your appetite then your should probably still be eating more than you are. You also shouldn't be having diet coke!

I've not got to the appetite loss stage yet, I'm looking forward to it especially since I am quite busy just now and it would give me more time if I didn't need to eat! Grin

Liveinthepresent · 14/10/2015 20:38

Wow cross post Palomb, we are all so different I find I get absolutely starving at meal times ! When I am hungry it is all consuming ravenous hunger.. Lightheaded and dizzy.

Palomb · 14/10/2015 20:49

I'm sure my appetite will pick up a bit in a couple of days, it does normally . We are selling our house, trying to choose a school for dd, bogged under at work, parents evenings and all the other stuff. Lots of stress. The only time I'm ever thin is when I'm stressed. I need the coke to counteract the tossing and turning at night [grim]

Still, I've gone from 12stone 13.5lb to 12 stone 4lb in 8 days so I shouldn't complain.

SayrraT · 14/10/2015 21:07

palomb I'm the opposite, I wish stress made me thin! I'm in the process of buying a house (should get keys next Friday!), I have my PhD viva on Monday Shock and I have a huge amount of work on at the moment in my post-doc which means minimum12 hr days including weekends for the next few months.

SayrraT · 14/10/2015 21:08

Oh, I should have said really well done on your weight loss so far! That is fabulous Grin

Beccus · 14/10/2015 21:14

Mostly going ok. Having bpc (smallish amount of butter & coconut oil), fried egg and spinach cooked in butter for breakfast, eating meat and veg at work canteen for lunch and have had creamy chicken and mushroom with caulimash or fried salmon with stirfry veg and zero noodles for dinner. Having lots of decaf tea and coffee with almond milk

Balonder · 14/10/2015 21:17

Feeling proud as I dodged a pasta bullet this evening. Late dinner DH was putting it on so I quickly grated a courgette and fried in loads of butter. Yum. With bolognaise and cheese. Lunch was leftover crustless quiche with salad and oily dressing. Breakfast was Lidl Greek yoghurt. I also made BIWI's coleslaw. Much enjoyed by my 3yo as well as DH and I. Thanks BIWI

Palomb · 14/10/2015 21:18

Thank you :) good luck with your house purchase! It is bloody terrifying isn't it? I've made a deal with myself not to read the property board on here. All those stories of horrible buyers and vendors. It's enough to make me want to stay out in this too small, too impractical house for life!

Huntthepigsear · 14/10/2015 21:25

Well I did my run - and felt bloody awful afterwards. Just as well BIWI wasn't chasing me with a stick, she would have soon caught me. I was soon pepped up by a couple of glasses of water and a spoonful of salt afterwards. Thanks for the book recommendation BIWI, I'll add that to my reading list.
Well done on the C25K Regeneration, that's how I started. If you are on week 6, you must have done the 20 minute run? I found that the hardest, psychologically more than physically. When I am running regularly now, I can run for over an hour but not at the moment, but no run has been as dreaded as that first 20 minute run!
Well done on all who have had a cheeky weigh in and lost already, I'm trying to stay away from the scales at the moment, don't know how long I'll last though.

PseudoBadger · 14/10/2015 21:35

Crazy day at work today so no time to think about food!
Breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled with cream and butter
Lunch - left over chicken kebab and coleslaw
Dinner - sausages with buttered broccoli and leeks
Snack - buttery cheese

ijustwanttobeme · 14/10/2015 21:38

I have been ok (ish) the past two days.

today's intake:

B: half an avocado
L: mushroom omelette
D: 3x chicken thighs and some veg

DSS bought a Thai takeaway, and so I did snack absentmindedly on some prawn crackers hangs head in shame

Off to a conference tomorrow in Birmingham- will have to be good, as am sure it'll be grab a sandwich type affair for lunch. Don't think anything's laid on and if it is, wont be LC.

Meeting DD after, at the new B'ham New Street station before heading back down to London. Lots of places to have dinner there, so LC'ing shouldn't be a problem.

ShebaQueen · 14/10/2015 21:43

Evening all, I'm away with work but thanks to some careful planning and prep I've managed to stay on track and I've done well with my water intake today, was determined to up the ante as it makes such a difference to my weight loss rate. I am literally sloshing tonight though!

BIWI · 14/10/2015 21:48

Palomb

I need the coke to counteract the tossing and turning at night [grim]

Thing is, the Coke is full of caffeine, (never mind the artificial sweeteners) and it won't be helping you sleep at night. Especially if you're drinking several cans.

You really aren't following Bootcamp rules - and you really should try and eat something. Not eating isn't the way to lose weight sensibly.

I'm sorry that you're having such a tough time, but please make sure you're looking after yourself by eating (and drinking!) properly.

Question for BIWI and SayrraT, I keep getting cramp in my legs, is that a symptom of a lack of something? I've been low-carbing since April (BC Lite over the summer), but I've not previously had this problem. Thank you!

ijustwanttobeme · 14/10/2015 22:05

just seen biwi's comment : You need to take charge, and not let things just overtake you.

i will do that tomorrow, by taking some LC bits for lunch tomorrow.

regenerationfez · 14/10/2015 22:17

hunter yes I am just past the 20 mi ute run. I've never felt so proudGrin That's why I don't want to go back again! an hour running? That's amazing! I'm thinking of entering a 10k to motivate me.

regenerationfez · 14/10/2015 22:20

Just read my second telling off! This really is a Bootcamp Grin I think I will eat beforehand as the meeting is a bit later than my usual brekkie time anyway. OK sweet potato offoff! But I really did think it was low carb! Maybe lower than proper potato but not low enough!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 14/10/2015 22:22

1 square of dark choc sneaked into my mouth when I wasn't looking, honest, but I nobly resisted 15 mo DS's kind attempts at feeding me chocolate buttons.

God I love buttered cabbage. Mmm.

Billionnairewannabe · 14/10/2015 22:29

Day 3 Check
B - pastry-less quiche with spinach
L - 1 0.5g carb sausage with {my new best friend} aubergine & mushrooms fried in butter
D - Pancetta & mushroom courgette spaghetti with aubergine (again!)

I think I've been good on the water - constantly drinking - but today I used a 500ml bottle & kept refilling so I know I've (pops to loo again) def had 3L.

Have I redeemed my bad behaviour now BIWi? Grin Thanks for ketosis info btw.

yongnian · 14/10/2015 22:45

Lidl Turkish yog/dbl cream/coconut oil
Few cashews

PseudoBadger · 14/10/2015 22:53

Just made my lunch for tomorrow - tuna mayo, olives, cherry toms and cucumber. I'll buy some salad leaves to add to it at lunch.
