5 Week Low Carb Bootcamp, with added Ubercamp

BIWI · 21/07/2014 07:35

Morning all!

Just starting the day with a black coffee instead of my usual white one. Not quite sure if I like it or not ...

Anyway, welcome, everyone to this shorter-and-stricter-than-usual Bootcamp Grin

For those of you who are new to low carbing, I strongly suggest that you don't do Ubercamp. It's very strict and restrictive and will be a very, very hard introduction to low carbing. Far better that you get to grips with what it's all about before you also aim to cut out dairy.

For those of you that have low carbed before, you have the option this time around. You can either Bootcamp, which will last for three weeks this time, followed by two weeks of Bootcamp Light, or you can Ubercamp for the first week.

Ubercamp means no dairy (apart from butter). So the rules are the same as for Bootcamp, with this one exception.

Bootcamp Rules

On our Spreadsheet of Fabulousness you will find the rules of Bootcamp - along with a whole load of other really important information. Have a good look around it, by clicking on the tabs at the bottom.

Sayra will be updating the spreadsheet this morning, so she will get all your names on it, and when she does, you can then enter your starting weight. As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all

MNHQ are - hopefully! - also setting up another Weight Tracker for us.

As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all there, in which case use the Weight Tracker, as that is private.

So this is the plan this time around:

Week 1 - Ubercamp (for those who are up for the extra challenge
Weeks 2-3 - Bootcamp
Weeks 4-5 - Bootcamp Light

I should warn you that I have taken my big stick out of the cupboard and I am ready and willing to use it ...

I've finished my egg fast so it's on to ubercamp for me today.

B: scrambled eggs, BPC
L: ribeye steak and salad with homemade vinaigrette
D: omelette

I usually marinade my steak in olive oil and red wine and I did it without thinking? Is that okay BIWI? I'm assuming any alcohol is burned off during the cooking process.

PoirotsMoustache · 24/07/2014 15:58

StuntNun By egg fast, do you mean eating eggs at every meal, or completely avoiding them? And of what benefit is an egg fast? I've never heard of it. Not that that means much, there are many, many things I've never heard of, I imagine!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 24/07/2014 16:34

Ok. I've had an ok day so far.

B- cheese omelette. Lots of butter.

Kept me full until about an hour ago. I was suprised at that.

I've bought loads of BBQ stuff for the weekend, so for my tea tonight I'm trialling everything. Bit of each different flavoured burger, sausage, and kebab. Grin

trinitybleu · 24/07/2014 16:39

Struggling this afternoon, feel hungry but no BC food left at work

B - yogurt and cream
S - 2 mini Pepperami
L - salmon, roast broccoli, broad beans and courgette with mayo
S - the insides of 6 (so far) leftover buffet sandwiches ... cheese and tomato, turkey salad, ham salad

Sad

Not sure what to have for dinner. Have left a curry in the slow cooker for the others....

TurnOverTheTv · 24/07/2014 16:42

After spending 5 hours in a baking hot garage clearing it out, all I want to do is sit down with a very chilled glass of sav blanc :-(

StuntNun · 24/07/2014 16:57

Poirot the egg fast thread is here. It's a method of breaking a stall (where you don't lose weight for four weeks) by eating eggs and fat in specific proportions and supplemented with a limited amount of cheese. I had gained a few pounds on my holiday and got myself a bit hooked on carbs again, where I was finding excuses to make poor food choices. I used the egg fast to shed the last couple of pounds of holiday weight and get myself into ketosis again. It has definitely worked as I say watching my kids eat junk food for lunch and I was quite happy to wait until I'd got home to make myself something low carb. Now I'm going to continue on with everyone else on ubercamp and hopefully lose those last three pounds at a slower pace by the end of the summer.

PoirotsMoustache · 24/07/2014 17:11

TurnOverTheTv Just remember, no matter how chilled the sav blanc is, it'll still warm you up further. You'd be much more refreshed having ice cold water with some lemon. Yes, I'm also trying to convince myself...

StuntNun Thank you, that's really interesting, I'll have to remember that. I'm glad it's worked for you! Good luck on ubercamp - it's something I'll never dare try Smile

perrysands · 24/07/2014 17:12

BIWI can I ask you to share your satay recipe pleaseGrin?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/07/2014 17:44

So... I haven't managed dairy free today, I have had:

B- big salad (probably too calorific) with lettuce, cucumber, a couple of cherry toms, a slice of ham, a tiny tin of no drain tuna, a few boursin bites and some mayo. And a BPC

L- Low carb whey protein shake with a splash of almond milk.

D- 2 biggish cream cheese pancakes, done like crepes and folded over with cheese and butter.

Will try and do less dairy tomorrow.

Firsttimer7259 · 24/07/2014 17:46

Ace news of all the weightloss.

My day (just bootcamp plain)
B - coffee w cream
L - chicKen Korma red cabbage
D - chicken thighs red cabbage

Snacks - sausages ( high meat content) cheese tiny bit. Second coffee. Carrot.

SChro:

Don't worry about calories! What's most worrying is the lack of protein and fat here. A big tin of tuna would have been better, and a tin of tuna in oil would have been even better still!

L- Low carb whey protein shake with a splash of almond milk.

Very processed - have you looked at the ingredients? Why not a proper meal?

D- 2 biggish cream cheese pancakes, done like crepes and folded over with cheese and butter.

Lots of dairy going on here - even if you don't have a problem with dairy. you need to keep an eye on this I think

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/07/2014 18:05

Protein shake was because we were in a hurry to get out. :) It's actually my first in a while, it's almost entirely whey and is 1.7g carbs per serving. I wont make it a regular thing! :o

Breakfast, I really do need to watch the calories now, have been low carbing a while and racking the calories right up and loss has been stalling. :(

The cheesy pancakes were to hide the taste of egg, I'm on the days coming off the fast and still need egg today and tomorrow and tbh I have right gone off the taste!

I'll be better tomorrow, promise! :o

Laska42 · 24/07/2014 21:57

Uber camp is fine actually esp inthis hot weather ...... yet more turkey courgettes and eggs with butter and black coffee/ water f r me today . .(getting a bit much now) Fish i think tomorrow Are prawns ok ( i seem to remember somewhere they are not really.. )

TMI alert .. usually on LC I have trouble (ahem) going so bad that it which has made me give up the diet before .. Today after 4 days of this I had completely the opposite .. Could it be the extra butter do you think? .. (I did have an upsetting incident at work though maybe it was that )

trashcanjunkie · 24/07/2014 22:50

Evening all, had a struggly day today, and may have over eaten, but only on lamb chops... actually, fuck it they were tiny. So maybe not... B was four teeny eggs, scrambled, L was lamb chops with aubergine and tomato plus spicy pickle (zero carbs) and I snacked on crayfish tails, D was lamb chops again with hm cabbage slaw and a green salad... well some lettuce and baby cucumber and chopped coriander in olive oil dressing. 4.5ltrs water plus some herb teas.

Marshy · 24/07/2014 23:03

Evening all,
I've done ok today i think:
B 2 scrambled eggs in butter
L spoonful of egg mayo, spoonful of tuna mayo, pile of shredded lettuce, a few slices of cucumber and tomato.
D mousse of smoked salmon, cream cheese and lime juice, with celery and lettuce.
Plus a slice of ham when i got in from work.
Had a cup of coffee with a splash of milk this morning, but water apart from that, though probably not enough.
I can't believe I can lose weight eating full fat cream cheese!

Went to the gym this evening - my legs felt like lead. Generally feeling quite perky though

Earlybird · 25/07/2014 00:27

Am doing pretty well, I think. My skirt, which was a bit snug a few weeks ago is definitely sitting better on my hips.

I think what is going to help me long term is to do more meal planning, instead of just grabbing random things out of the fridge.

TurnOverTheTv · 25/07/2014 07:09

Good morning :-) a very nice suprise of 2lb loss this morning bringing it to a total of 7lb since Monday Grin

B-mashed eggs and butter
L- chicken and avocado salad
D- cod wrapped in pancetta

Keep on it!

TurnOverTheTv · 25/07/2014 07:29

Sorry, 6lb, not 7!

CecyHall · 25/07/2014 07:38

I really wasn't going to weigh but I did and 3lbs off, however that's pretty usual after I've had a few weeks of eating crap and then go good again so it'll be what happens next that I'm looking forward to.

Today I'm having

B- coffee and cream
L- the remaining garlic chicken and salad
T- roasted pork belly and leeks with cream cheese stirred through

StuntNun · 25/07/2014 07:43

It's great to see some weight losses so early on but do go by the way your clothes fit as well as the scales can lie to you and tell you that you haven't lost weight even though your clothes feel looser. I was annoyed yesterday because I forgot to put a belt on and had to keep hoiking up my jeans... until I realised that was a good thing!

For people that are new to low carb there is often a huge variation in weight loss over the first couple of weeks. Some people, especially those that haven't dieted before, can see losses of 7 lb in the first week alone. But if you are a serial dieter or have an underlying hormonal issue such as PCOS, can take a bit longer before the weight starts to drop. It's as if in some people there's a healing process that takes place before your body allows itself to start losing weight. So if the scales aren't shifting for you then give it a bit longer. This way of eating works, you just have to let it.

I would urge people to take measurements as well, at least your waist. Quite often you will find you get slimmer even though the scale hasn't changed. This is to do with your body temporarily retaining water inside its fat cells.

LingDiLong · 25/07/2014 07:47

Another couple of pounds off for me, that's 7 in total in 5 days!! Yesterday I had scrambled eggs and bacon, tuna mayo and green salad and went to a bbq where I ate vast amounts of meat but managed to successfully shun the bread, potatoes and cake! Struggling big time with my running though, I feel really weak and lethargic. The weather doesn't help of course. Thanks for the encouragement yeterday by the way, I was very close to cracking!

BIWI · 25/07/2014 07:47

Good post, StuntNun.

Another challenging day for me - on an early train to Leeds. At least travelling first class means I get a 'free' fried breakfast. Lunch will be more difficult, although if I get back to the station in time, there's a M&S Food there, so I can pick up some low-carb stuff. The complimentary food on the train back will be all sandwiches, fruit, crisps and cake!

Definitely stick with it Ling. Exercising when you eat low carb is sooo much better. You get a consistent release of energy when you aren't relying on glucose. You also process lactic acid more efficiently so you will be able to run faster without getting a build up of lactic acid. Since I started low carb my HIIT performance has drastically increased and I can exercise in a fasted state whereas before I would have had to eat something before exercising in the morning.

BIWI · 25/07/2014 08:03

Ling - I always exercise in a fasted state now, and it's never been an issue. You will get there, honestly!
