5 Week Low Carb Bootcamp, with added Ubercamp

BIWI · 21/07/2014 07:35

Morning all!

Just starting the day with a black coffee instead of my usual white one. Not quite sure if I like it or not ...

Anyway, welcome, everyone to this shorter-and-stricter-than-usual Bootcamp Grin

For those of you who are new to low carbing, I strongly suggest that you don't do Ubercamp. It's very strict and restrictive and will be a very, very hard introduction to low carbing. Far better that you get to grips with what it's all about before you also aim to cut out dairy.

For those of you that have low carbed before, you have the option this time around. You can either Bootcamp, which will last for three weeks this time, followed by two weeks of Bootcamp Light, or you can Ubercamp for the first week.

Ubercamp means no dairy (apart from butter). So the rules are the same as for Bootcamp, with this one exception.

Bootcamp Rules

On our Spreadsheet of Fabulousness you will find the rules of Bootcamp - along with a whole load of other really important information. Have a good look around it, by clicking on the tabs at the bottom.

Sayra will be updating the spreadsheet this morning, so she will get all your names on it, and when she does, you can then enter your starting weight. As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all

MNHQ are - hopefully! - also setting up another Weight Tracker for us.

As the spreadsheet is shared, you may not wish to confess all there, in which case use the Weight Tracker, as that is private.

So this is the plan this time around:

Week 1 - Ubercamp (for those who are up for the extra challenge
Weeks 2-3 - Bootcamp
Weeks 4-5 - Bootcamp Light

I should warn you that I have taken my big stick out of the cupboard and I am ready and willing to use it ...

Urgh, I have a bloody cold. Plus my legs HURT from the workouts. I foolishly weighed myself this morning and I'm up a lb, however logically I know this is because I have been doing resistance work. When you are building muscle you retain water. Still a little disheartening.

Food today:
B: bacon and spring onion omelette
S: pork scratchings
L: ham and avocado salad
D: pork belly, cauliflower purée and courgettes in garlic butter

I'm HUNGRY today. Think I'll butter my omelette tomorrow morning. Grin

Oh dear, I've eaten the evil quorn now, it was a fillet so not as high carb as their burgers and sausages. 2g per fillet. I will avoid in the future!

StuntNun · 23/07/2014 13:41

BIWI I would love a good satay recipe, I only ever get it from the Chinese takeaway and I never thought of making it myself.

Lol at evil Quorn.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 13:42

Have still not got around to eating, apart from my BPC. Have bought pre made egg mayo from Tesco that doesn't contain sugar.

Firsttimer7259 · 23/07/2014 14:31

Waah - somebody ate my ham! And DH helped himself to my chicken in cream sauce for lunch. Its giong to take a whole new level of preparation and food labelling isnt it. Annoyed but wryly amused that one of my colleagues has snaffled 2 little packs of ham slices and then left the empty box in the fridge for me to find.

Earlybird · 23/07/2014 16:32

Woke you this morning with a headache, so imagine it is the dreaded 'carb flu' setting in? Feeling better now though.

Did pretty well yesterday, but had a dilemma as dd (who is learning to cook) proudly presented me with her latest dish - thai chicken lettuce wraps. Oh, oh. I had a very small amount - maybe a teacup full - as i didn't want to hurt her feelings (and yes, it had a bit of peanut butter and a few shreds of carrot). I know, not great - but hoped eating a small amount would not do too much damage.

Few questions:

  • is guacamole ok?
  • what is bulletproof coffee?

I still am having trouble downing the required amounts of water. Anyone got any tips to share?

Oh, and down 2.5 lbs so far - whoop, whoop!

wombat22 · 23/07/2014 17:14

There are some good losses already. Bulletproof coffee is black coffee with a spoon of butter and a spoon of coconut oil, whisked together with a blender. it sounds horrid but it froths up like a latte and tastes quite nice. It's good for ubercamp when we can't have milk and for many people if they drink it on a morning, it fills them up instead of breakfast.

Earlybird · 23/07/2014 17:22

Thanks for the explanation wombat 22 - you're right, it does sound horrid!

wombat22 · 23/07/2014 17:23

It took me ages to pluck up the courage to try it but I was surprised Grin I used unsalted butter but many on here say salted butter is just the same

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 17:33

I've only just tried BPC yesterday after avoiding it for ages, it's actually quits nice, very filling and like magic energy, I had another one today. :o. I used salted butter though...

Marshy · 23/07/2014 17:33

Hi all
Quick check in from me on a more usual data today so I've done ok I think. Bacon and egg for breakfast and tuna mayo for lunch, no salad though as couldn't be arsed to go and buy it and I hadn't taken any to work with me.

Have just got in and eaten a lovely ripe avocado straight out of the skin with a bit of salt and wine vinegar on top. It was delicious!

Taking dd bikini shopping now so will eat properly later - probably fried chicken and veggies.

Scales seem to be continuing in the right direction. It's very helpful reading about how everyone is progressing.

Where is the spiced eggs recipe?

wombat22 · 23/07/2014 17:35

Are you still lurking Holger ? It would be a shame for you to disappear off the the thread. You've offered lots of good advice during the last bootcamp. Perhaps we can help you through your rough patch Thanks

Laska42 · 23/07/2014 18:01

I have a friend who always put a few grains of salt in his coffee ( only real coffee though).

Well i've just had more of the same .. eggs with butter , turkey meatloaf ( and excitingly) some cold chicken today with a few cherry tomatoes .. and lots of water .. Will be having some courgettes in butter in a bit.. Yup its boring, but i live on my own during the week and by eating the same each day for the first few days i know where i am with it (and id like to kick start weight loss if I can.).

(im also doing it on 5:2 principles .. i.e 2 fast days ) which may or may not work.. ...

TurnOverTheTv · 23/07/2014 18:16

Took the children to the pictures today, and for lunch. They chose yo sushi Hmm I had a miso soup and a seaweed salad. I hope it hasn't done any damage. Starving when we got in after no protein for lunch so I've had two salmon fillets with mayo and salad.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 23/07/2014 18:42

Sushi places are the one place I really have had to avoid since starting LC, it is the one thing I really miss. At least you managed to find something. :)

TurnOverTheTv · 23/07/2014 18:48

It was a sad day. No duck gyoza, and a bottle of water in the cinema :-(

Plonkysaurus · 23/07/2014 19:09

Sashimi is a good option though, but I do wonder if I could get away with teriyaki chicken...I love yo sushi and get cravings for it. Yum.

And salt in coffee eh? I've had a very busy day with lots of rushing around and working in the garden so I'm looking forward to my dinner of sausages and roast veggies. Except dp has just poured me a glass of my favourite wine.

I think I'm going to go quiet for a bit. With the wedding being just 3 days away I know I'm going to get glasses of booze thrust at me. And by god I'm going to enjoy them. I'll be 'good' the rest of the time but it's not realistic to bootcamp properly at my own wedding.

TurnOverTheTv · 23/07/2014 19:17

I've just checked the carb content, 8.4g for the salad. I could tell straight away it had some sort of sugary dressing on it. Ah well, it could have been worse :-)

TurnOverTheTv · 23/07/2014 19:18

You cannot bootcamp on your own wedding day!

Plonkysaurus · 23/07/2014 19:20

Absolutely turn. And I'm not going to be miserable and turn down a few drinks in the next 2-3 days either. I'll still eat sensibly, but I very much plan on enjoying myself!

TurnOverTheTv · 23/07/2014 19:23

You absolutely should! I was a tad hungover on my wedding day :-) can we have a picture of your dress? Or outfit?

CantEvenKeepAnOrchidAlive · 23/07/2014 19:29

Day 3 over :)

To be honest, it's so hot I don't want to eat a lot and finding ubercamp much easier than I thought!

Today was an end of year lunch with work at the local restaurant. I was good and had steak salad which consisted of 8oz rump steak, lettuce, onion, celery, tomatoes, red pepper and mayo though I didn't eat the pepper.

Dinner was homemade burgers, homemade coleslaw and celeriac chips. A big thank you from DP who has been eating dinner with me to keep me 'company'as he discovered how tasty celeriac chips are! He asked if we could have them again tomorrow!

Feeling good, especially now the heartburn from drinking so much water has subsided. Not weighing myself except at the weekly weigh ins so I don't face disappointment if there is no loss yet.

dollywould · 23/07/2014 20:41

Plonky Hope you have a wonderful day! Smile

Holger It was down to some of your posts that I signed up for this bootcamp - and have stayed. I know exactly what it's life when RL becomes harder to juggle but hope you will be back. As wombat said, I hope we can return the help you have given us.

I decided to do this thread after I got on the scales last week and came in at 87kg. I've finally weighed myself today - and I'm 84.5. All of which I put down to Ubercamp.

BIWI and all the others who've given such good advice and support on this thread, Thanks. With knobs on. And your post about cheating was so timely, BIWI. I did not crack in the face of toasted marshmallows. You're the low-carb SAS!

Today has been:
B: Large black coffee, bacon and eggs
L: 2 chicken thighs, homemade coleslaw and lettuce
D: Roast pork and crackling, braised fennel and 200g swede.

And I'm drinking gallons of water. Easy in this heat though, isn't it?

BIWI · 23/07/2014 21:14

Grin at low carb SAS!!!
