Wow! So much nattering that we've filled up the thread before the end of the week!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for tomorrow morning.

And, for the Weight Tracker I'm not quite sure what happens with this link I think that you will be asked to enter your weight for this week and then you will see your individual graph.

I hope you all had a good week last week, and very good luck for week 2.

I can report that chocolate mousse adds 1lb overnight.

But I'm still 2.4lb down this week, which is completely fantastic, and a much faster rate of loss than I am used to. It must be all the encouragement on these threads!

Or more likely, the fact that I've been reading all the advice to others and 1. finally stopped stubbornly adding balsamic vinegar to my salad dressing and 2. exchanged some of my teas-with-milk for peppermint tea.

If you've lost 1lb or 2lb or 0.8lb please don't be downhearted, that is REALLY GREAT - you don't necessarily need to alter anything you're doing. Onwards and downwards!

Calamity and Mlig hope you can find the faith to keep going, I think it will work. Post your menus if you'd like? There are odd factors at work, as Chipping's post said, sometimes the whoosh happens days after the good eating that caused the fat-burning, its when the body is reassured that its not a famine (ie the fat-eating and calories stay high) that it releases the temporary water in the cells.

To quote Ruprekt: Fat and water, Fat and water

7lbs this weeks and 5lb on bc lite, so 12lbs altogether. Goals for this week including starting to exercise properly and not snacking, which is a habit rather than a need.

Well this is now week 2 over for me , but I am posting my weight a week behind to keep track of what has actually happened over the 10 weeks for me.
I lost 3lb in the first week and another 2 last week, so overall I am happy.
I have LC'd before so I wasn't really expecting huge weight losses (although I kind of hoped that I still might have seen them).

I made ice cream yesterday for the children and then experimented with a sort of frozen yoghurt one. I used about 2/3 Lidl greek yoghurt and 1/3 cream and some orange essence. It tasted quite orangy before it was frozen but not nearly so much afterwards - note to self to add more flavouring next time. DH and I also thought that adding berries to it would be a good idea too.

Well done everyone else for sticking with it.

Aaaand the measurements:

WK1
Chest 42
Waist 41
Hips 47
Tops of thighs 23.5 apiece
Tops of arms 12.5 and 13, R & L respectively

WK2
Chest 40
Waist 38 - no, that is not a typo, 38!!
Hips 44
Tops of thighs 22.5 & 23
Tops of arms 11.5 and 12.25, R & L respectively

I'm happily gobsmacked - I was feeling mildly self-pitying because my weight loss seemed so small compared to others, but whoohoo!! :o :o

Well I'm 0.7 lbs up - but weirdly pleased with that as I went away for a long-awaited weekend with very old friends so thought it would be more. I sort of worked out a way to enjoy by still mostly LCing - so stuck with no bread, pasta, potatoes or carby veg, no snacks, gallons of water and some long country walks, but did have pudding both nights (chose things with no pastry/flour) and a drink or two. I know I was 2lbs less on Friday, so the extra .7 will go quickly.

All most odd, as with other 'diets' in the past I'd be head-first in cake by now because of my 'failure', but today I'm raring to get back on it and feel like I really found the line between having a brilliant time on my weekend away and utterly going off the rails. No doubt BIWI will be over with her big stick over all the cheating, but I am pleased with my damage limitation!

Today will be greek yogurt, then last night's leftovers for lunch - roast chicken, homemade coleslaw, bit of greek salad with avocado instead of feta. Shopping after work tonight for dinner inspiration.

5.4lb down Grin really pleased! and haven't found it too hard though there have been moments when I've had to fight with myself. I'm doing this to look & feel my best for my 40th in September and my wedding in October and I'm finding it's helping so much to have two such massive things to aim towards.

I always thought I didn't really snack through the day (my problem is 'treats' in front of the TV once kids in bed) but have realised that I pick at bits and pieces - a bit of the childrens snacks, finishing off their tea leftovers, a taste here and taste there...I reckon it all added up to at least another full meals worth at least.

I think I have lost 2lbs. Have ordered some new scales which I plan to use on carpet in my bedroom but keep in one place so hopefuly that will at least let me know how much i have lost. 3 little kids and one tiny bathroom so best option! I am really pleased I look less bloated and have not been sticking to some of the rules.

I was a bit virusy and tired over the weekend and ended up really cross with dp as he lectured me on how he doesn't approve of low carb and compared it to if he was drinking and smoking for a week and then got ill. He also gave me the old eat less move more routine [sceptical] Angry Decided I woul blardy well get up and be a martyr and make lunch for us, all so made sandwiches for everyone else and heated up some lentil soup and he said 'should you be having that'!

2lbs down despite eating lots of butter, cream and huge portions of food, so can't really complain! Had been doing bC light for a bit beforehand so didn't expect a big loss (still irrationally jealous of some people's whooshes!) congrats to all losers, big and small- and keep the faith those who hv sts

Not sure if any of my spreadsheet entries have worked, but I'm down from 180 to 173lbs, so half a stoine off this week. Thats normal for me when starting a diet, only expecting 2lbs a week tops after this!

Only 3st 5lbs to go...

Go here and click on low carb See what you get? I'm getting a yahoo type search rather than the right page.

I was looking for the rules, can't find those either.

Supersalstrawberry - there is a thread in chat I think about who used to be around a lot and is missed. You were mentioned!

As was BIWI! She obv spends all her time here!

TinTin - I'm sorry. Can you post what you have been eating? Are you eating enough? Water?

The Whoosh

When your daily calorie intake is lower than required to meet your energy requirements, your body makes up the difference from your fat stores. Fat cells all over your body release some of their stored fat into the bloodstream but they take in an equal weight of water. The theory is that this preserves the size of the fat cell, presumably in case the calorie restriction ends and the fat stores can be replenished.

Now water is more dense than fat (remember oil floats on water) so the fat cells decrease a little in volume and this is why your waist or other measurements decrease sometimes even though your weight hasn't changed. When the whoosh fairy visits, some 'housekeeping mechanism' is triggered and a lot of fat cells suddenly release their stored water and shrink and you see a sudden drop on the scales.

Basically as you low carb your body is steadily using up its fat stores at a rate of 1-2 lb per week but your body's water levels are fluctuating all over the place so your weight varies significantly from day to day. This is why BIWI recommends weekly weigh-ins to follow the trend of weight loss.

Note that the whoosh theory is just a theory. There is some supporting evidence such as that the water content of the fat mass increases during dieting. Also when low carbers approach their ideal weight they can sometimes trigger a whoosh by having a carb refeed day (where you add potatoes, sweet potato, rice or similar that day). When your body stores the carbs as glycogen it also stores water so a carb refeed can help to 'suck' the water out of the fat cells. Having a couple of shots of vodka can cause the same effect, presumably as alcohol is a diuretic so it helps to remove the water from the fat cell. Note that these approaches are only really useful for people that are close to their ideal weight and have stalled in their weight loss for several weeks.

Should we hav a rules thread and bump it to keep it active? Think they did this on 5:2 don't know if it worked.

Also why have they split low carb in 2 much prefered it before grumble grumble....
