Wow! So much nattering that we've filled up the thread before the end of the week!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for tomorrow morning.

And, for the Weight Tracker I'm not quite sure what happens with this link I think that you will be asked to enter your weight for this week and then you will see your individual graph.

I hope you all had a good week last week, and very good luck for week 2.

Taytos need to expand in to the pork scratching market. They could call them Scratchies.

No Waitrose in Northern Ireland. Hmm Or Aldi. Or Morissons. Confused

FourArms · 27/01/2014 07:04

I think Waitrose stock the 'awfully posh' variety as the butcher that invented them used to work there.

You can buy pork scratchings on Amazon!? Why didn't I know this? All the ones I can get round here have gluten and MSG in them.

I think I'll avoid kale crisps.

Scales. Here I come.

Report
Thumbwitch · 27/01/2014 01:02

Confession time.
After I had the home made kale crisps last night, I could not shake the taste, and it was making me feel ill. I tried cheese and loads of water but it just wasn't doing it - so I resorted to a chocolate biscuit, and then 2 lines of G&B milk chocolate. That actually helped; the nausea and "oily feeling" went away, and the best bit was I didn't go back for more chocolate, which normally I would have done.

However, as a result, the scales are up 1lb this morning (totally expected) and today I must be better.

I'm glad it's not just me struggling with the kale crisps - I do actually like kale, when it's steamed or boiled and eaten that way - but the crisps are not good for me.

I can't have pork crackling of any kind (or indeed pork of any kind) because it gives me sick migraines; that's even supposing anything like you're all suggesting could be found in Australia (I've never looked, to be fair but it seems unlikely).

So today - no breakfast again Blush
L - mushroom soup with brie lumps in it as well as the double cream

I also had a bright idea for a snack for me, to stop me just eating lumps of cheese all the time - I made a meat and cream cheese "roll". It's ok, I don't think it would win any awards!, but it makes a nice snack. Took 250g mince, a small onion finely diced, some lupin flour (high protein, low carb), salt, coriander and an egg, mixed them altogether in the food processor and then laid it out on buttered silver foil in a rectangle. Squished it down and into a tight shape, then put a roll of cream cheese along it, and rolled it up tight. Baked in the oven for 30 mins at 220 deg C, but this wasn't enough - the seepage from the meat meant that the bottom half of the roll wasn't cooked through. Needs longer, probably an hour. Then left it to cool, put it in the fridge, and then it can be browned off in a frying pan if you like (you have to wait until it's completely cool before you unwrap it to allow the cream cheese to resolidify). It's nice, but not great, iyswim.

Gerry - don't fear the fat, honestly. You need the fat, and this will stop you feeling hungry.

And yes, week 3, 4 and/or 5 can see weight loss stalling, and sometimes a gain. It seems as if it's to do with the body getting used to the whole low carb 'thang'.

Keep on keeping on, and all should be well.

Has anyone tried chia seeds? I am so happy to have discovered chia pudding. You soak them in almond or coconut milk and they form a gel like tapioca. Zero net carbs. But filling and delicious. Have been playing with different types ie adding almond butter, cocoa powder (green and blacks of course so low carb) vanish, cinnamon, allspice, crime fraiche, frozen raspberries etc etc. It's my new obsession. Bloody expensive though.

Gerry yes, it is hard to 'keep the faith' and keep eating fat. I have been low carbing for over a year now and still when I gained weight my first, unchecked, thought was 'It's not surprising with all that cream, oil, butter' - 30 years of fat being evil isn't easily over-ridden :( then I engaged my brain and decided it was all those other things I said ^^

But Gerry please hang in there, it does work and it does wonders for things like PCOS, honestly x

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 26/01/2014 20:12

Chipping your guess is as good as mine re: cycle. PCOS means I'm all over the place, cycle ranges from 23-53 days, and I've only had 4 periods since stopping bfing in June... Last one started approx jan 6th. I'm trying to stay positive, and I feel I'm less likely to have 'screw it this isn't working' binges than other things I've tried, but I think inevitably you stop seeing losses and instantly panic about the amount of fat I'm eating... The old fat phobic ways take hold!!
