Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Dusty, ds2 would look so cool with a Beatles haircut

Pc, sorry you've all been ill, glad you're on the mend. Can't believe ds will be 2

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

Back from school. Got rained on, but warm rain is quite acceptable in my book.

Dusty - too.

sfx - David Mitchell is the one who wrote cloud atlas, isn't he? Not sure about the book at all ... Want nicely written book like Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. But what??

sfxmum · 14/07/2010 16:44

How about Scarlet Thomas The end of Mr Y? dh liked it here

sfxmum · 14/07/2010 16:47

with David Mitchell I am convinced it is a love affair it is not even about what he writes but how he writes, I can't quite explain it, him like Saramago, Yourcenar just hit me in a special way, it is how the words are put together I just seem to drift in them like music or riding a wave, total sensory experience, meanings come later

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/07/2010 18:24

Unfortunately my impression with cloud atlas was that there was this self-conscious writer trying to show off how clever he was to pull off such a trick...

sfxmum · 14/07/2010 19:05

I see what you mean, that was not his first book for me, I think he clearly has the talent and is brave to try out forms/ styles, have nothing against stylistic cleverness providing it is backed up with talent

tillyfernackerpants · 14/07/2010 20:40

sfx, nice to see you today, ds1 said he had fun! Thank you for trashy reads, am going to hunt them out in the library now

copper, I quite like the Millennium ones, though I have to take a break between each one for a trashy read!!

dusty, sorry we can't meet tomorrow now . I'd forgotten we'd been invited to a friend's after school & then I have to pack for holiday, sorry

pcw, glad things seem to be under control, would be lovely to see you when you're back!

tilly she loved having ds1 around too then told dh about the disadvantages of younger sibling as per their convo, very funny
I was grateful for the grown up company thanks

need early bed school day tomorrow I think

SushiMummy · 15/07/2010 07:34

Hi all.

dusty - sorry I am working today so can't make it.

DS is so much better and thank you for your well wishes. The induction went OK but we didn't have chance to ask any questions so I still have loads of questions unanswered. Wrap-around care isn't as good as expected (breakfast club completely full with a long waiting list), DS in same class as his pals which is great, his teacher seems very nice, very strict guidelines for uniforms, staggered stage intake is abusolute nightmare, amazing amount of money they raised from the summer fair, etc. all quite very interesting indeed.

pcworld · 15/07/2010 08:34

Sushi - school sounds good. Dusty - SO sorry we won't make it today - it is D day - packing/cleaning/generally trying to keep an air of calm

Will be offline until around the 26th - do not know how I will manage, lol! So, will be back in touch after that - am hoping to arrange a summer meet in Kew Gdns or similar if people are up for it - keen to keep in touch with everyone

sfxmum · 15/07/2010 09:30

hello all

sushi sorry did not realise DS had been unwell, can see how school issues can be a problem, hope you find satisfactory provision

pcW see you on the other side hope the move itself goes well

dusty this is looking shaky for today, dd left for school but did not sleep much worried about returning, she might be in a right state after classes
I can however meet you at around 2pm and let you into the gardens? sorry let me know how it might work

things sort of back to normal got drenched on school run and now brilliant sunshine, had to change clothes instead of popping to shops as planned

dustythedolphin · 15/07/2010 11:03

Hi thanks SFX I will try and call you but 2pm a bit early methinks as we have loads of "stuff to do" today and were thinking we would be in Kew at around school pick up time and afterwards.

Thanks everyone else for letting me know, no worries

sfxmum · 15/07/2010 11:14

ok dusty shame to miss you, dd was still awake at 9.30 and up at 7am so I imagine it will be meltdown time just after school

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/07/2010 20:52

Hello.

DS1 back from school trip feeling a bit sick - apparently somebody bought chocolate and gave it to them and the ride was bumpy coming back ... Silly people.

DS2 had chocolate treasures from nursery.

It's been a rather chocolaty sort of a day. I didn't have any though. But I have a bottle of beaujolais.

dustythedolphin · 15/07/2010 22:23

Copper

SFX no worries we are getting a bit meltdownish here too, after days of dashing around...can't wait to go back to work for a rest

UptoapointLordCopper · 16/07/2010 09:30

Morning!

Did school run wearing inside out shirt.

Dusty - know exactly what you mean about having a rest at work! But not enough of a rest because still have to do things and talk to people. But fewer guilt trips.

sfxmum · 16/07/2010 11:56

hello all

lordcopper at least you were dressed

dusty know what you mean, not enough hrs and children tire quickly

slept about 3hrs last night horrid insomnia
went running in Richmond park after drop off 5 very slow and miles but glad I did it, had been going for short 2 miles runs recently and that just will not do

dustythedolphin · 16/07/2010 17:13

Well done for running ...

Took the beasts to the Science Museum today - it was SO crowded (with school trips) - am exhuasted!!!

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/07/2010 19:40

Hello all!

Baked two loaves of bread, cheese straws, langues de chat, chocolate and raisins cookies, and buckwheat pancakes. All cooked out now ...

Hope everyone is having a less manic weekend!

dustythedolphin · 17/07/2010 19:46

YUM

SFX thnx for your txt yes it WAS DH sitting next to you on the District Line

sfxmum · 17/07/2010 20:37

sfxmum · 17/07/2010 20:41

ok that one went, had tried to previously but not gone through

dusty glad you had a nice holiday I thought it might have been him but wasn't sure and did not want to stare

lorcopper excellent baking love langues de chat addictive little things

had nice time with dd visiting relatives

must go running tomorrow dh did 12.5 miles today so nearing half marathon and with decent time and I am woefully rubbish lately
it must not stand

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/07/2010 21:25

sfx - our langues de chat are not so much little things as enormous blobs.

By the way has anyone been to John Lewis in Kingston for kids' shoes?

stepfordwife · 17/07/2010 22:34

BOO!
what are langues de chat?

sfxmum · 17/07/2010 23:20

langue de chat

BOO yourself

although those aren't shaped exactly like the ones I know but you get the idea

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/07/2010 16:18

Hello!

Been down to the park, kids cycling as some roads are shut due to Ealing SkyRide. So bloody stressful. Kids don't watch where they are going. Grown-ups too fast. Nightmare.
