Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Dusty, ds2 would look so cool with a Beatles haircut

Pc, sorry you've all been ill, glad you're on the mend. Can't believe ds will be 2

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

dustythedolphin · 28/06/2010 21:27

Vbus that's exciting!! Are you still loving it now that you are in? I love that "new house"/"no clutter" moment!

Kew saw the pics on FB - looks as though Ds had a whale of a time

Copper wish I could find time to teach DS1 to play chess and knew the rules myself

SFX that fest looks very cool - enjoy. Do you ever go to the Kingston Green fayre?

Kewcumber · 28/06/2010 22:25

I feel great actually despite being exhausted. Nothing like your child becoming a feral faerie for the weekend to make you appreciate the blessings you have. And for some odd reason I went into the weekend a semi-invlaid and feel pretty normal now. Have even decided to move onto soft food a few days early (so far so good)

Vbus - noce to be in a new home but dont you just hate actually moving the lead up stress and the acual day ?

SFX we might consider that, not sure if we are around that weekend.

sfxmum · 29/06/2010 10:23

hello all

vbus glad you are, mostly, settled I guess ds2 is less used to moving
btw we should book tickets for our outing

kewC glad you feel better maybe sun friends and some relaxing time helped healing

dusty your area sounds very nice hope work less annoying

dd still with awful cough but at school, we will find out today who next year's teacher will be, I feel nervous grown found of current one she is a straight shooter

is Tilly about? how are you getting on? I thought you might like that gig I posted

and wave to pcW how are house related stresses?

vbus · 29/06/2010 14:29

Hello all

Sfx - Have not forgotton about outing, can't wait
We have parents meeting tonight to find out about reception and which class Ds1 will be in, it has come round too fast . I really hope he will be with his best friend, I think he'll be lost of they split them up. Hope DD gets good teacher next yr, so tense isn't it?!

Dusty/kew - yes do love being here even there's still much to do. Sounds bizarre but I feel like I'm hols (maybe it's the sun or the change of scenery) and thankfully DS2 slept through and is much better today so feeling fractionally less knackered.

If anyone around Sat night welcome to come over for a nosey, drink/nibbles (if you don't mind the chaos/boxes lying around). Just let me know if you can make it

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/06/2010 14:42

Hello!

Am using work laptop - teeny cute little thing but running Windows

vbus - so tempting to have a nosey, but probably can't do it. Have been invited to go fishing in the day ...

Kew - DS is cutest feral child ever!

We have parents evening next week. Not expecting anything unexpected, IYKWIM. DS2 will be going to reception with lots of people he knows already. DS1 went in without knowing anybody but was already brainwashed by me to see it as opportunity to make new friens.

sfxmum · 29/06/2010 15:58

vbus sounds like a positive development, will let you know about Saturday

lordcopper we do not have parent evening at end of year just a report which I have just read and dd seems happy with teacher arrangement for next year
the report was interesting reading

dustythedolphin · 29/06/2010 19:39

SFX what did it say? [nosey emoticon]

Copper very impressed you go fishing! Are you on FB BTW?

Vbus that sounds nice, sorry its too far for us to come for a nosey and nibbles - sounds lovely. If I get my act together I might try and arrange a MN meet up when we are over in a couple of weeks? Anyone up for it? Maybe picnic after school or mum's night out?

tillyfernackerpants · 29/06/2010 20:25

hi everyone,

sfx, am around just seem to be really busy atm. Plus I've finally sorted out the spare room so I now have a little bit of an office but does mean I don't go on computer much during the day anymore!

Btw, is the trip you mentioned to see a certain film? I was wondering if we were still planning on going?!

vbus, glad you're all moved in, hope ds2 settles soon. Won't be able to make Sat though, dh out with the boys at his parents & he usually needs a hand to get everyone in when they get back at 8-ish. Good luck as well with reception meeting. We had ours the other week, it was fine apart from some at the amount of homework they'll be getting!

Ds1's class had mass at the church today, one of the mums went & reported that her ds & ds1 seemed to have been deliberately separated during the service. They are known for a bit of mischief, recently opening the gate to go & play with the reception children in their playground

Anyway, nose back to the grindstone, have either got a cold or hayfever & I need an early night, just need to finish work off first.

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/06/2010 20:47

Dusty - fishing this weekend. I did once fish in Oz. Caught fish, killed fish, gutted fish, cooked fish, ate fish. Yum. The only time I caught my own food. Am on FB. Your friend, even. Unless you are not who I think you are.

Tilly - Mass!? Homework!? Actually we get homework too, but we treat it more like guidelines.

sfx - tell! What did report say?

tillyfernackerpants · 29/06/2010 21:07

Copper, its a Catholic school so mass is expected . Homework on the other hand, they will apparently get a worksheet every night to do as well as reading every night etc etc all starting at some point within the first term . And apparently there are some pointed comments by teachers if it isn't done!!

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2010 10:30

I suppose it would be odd if a catholic school doesn't do mass.

But homework is another matter...

sfxmum · 30/06/2010 11:40

hello all

tilly re outing definitely on should be fun lets just come up with a convenient date for the 3 of us, assuming no one else wants to indulge in teen nonsense and dubious ogling of nubile young men

about mass it was very much part of the school life we had a church and a couple of chapels in the school ground, not to mention the other religious observances at Lent, Advent and the apparition commemorations from May to October

anyway

good to see you are well

about the report it was just the way they referred to her absences, 12 days, as if we had kept her home other that when she was ill
otherwise all seems fine

I have spent the morning at school at a parents meeting with the head and leadership team, then some time in the classroom, just need some food before going back for sports day

sfxmum · 30/06/2010 11:42

that does not really make much sense sorry, awful cold now, need bed

regarding home work that was a hot topic at the meeting but people seem to want more of it an access to resources to broaden parent lead home learning, it is that kind of school

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2010 11:52

sfx - I'm all for parent-led home learning but the key is in the parent. Honestly. Some people think schools have the monopoly on teaching and learning. Did you get a letter warning you about the link between school absenteeism (sp!?) and drug addiction, unemployment, being in abusive relationships, eating disorders, global warming etc etc?

sfxmum · 30/06/2010 12:14

not that extreme lorcopper it was just part of the comments at the end of the report, yet we did not take her out of school for holidays as some did, wish we had now, so much cheaper while being educational

as for home work it seems they are sensible about it really it is not the same for all there is some latitude for parent impute

off to the school field I go

vbus · 30/06/2010 14:23

hello all

Sfx/Tilly - can do outing after 17th July when I'm back from a well timed holiday. Not sure what you're talking about anyway Sfx, I'm going because I'm looking fwd to some intelligent acting and storyline

Copper - where are you going fishing and what are you hoping to catch?

School meeting was fine and DS1 is with his pal along with about 6 others from his current class. Topic of homework didn't come up but no doubt it will next week when they are allowed to go to reception class one morning next wk to meet teacher and other kids.

Managed to book a wk's swimming course for him today and going to Wales for one wk in Aug when DH away in US again. We'll be around rest of the summer

vbus · 30/06/2010 14:37

Sfx - forgot to add hope sports day goes well!

dustythedolphin · 30/06/2010 16:49

We had a chapel in our school too and some girls went every morning, slightly excessive IMHO...mind you I would much rather go to mass, than do homework

Copper what are your initials?

No one wants a meet the week I'm back then?

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2010 18:12

Dusty - S N

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2010 18:12

Pretty successful namechange, eh? Though everyone else seems to know who I am.

sfxmum · 30/06/2010 18:20

vbus of course for the art for the art will check dates and report back, Summer plans sound good, so far August seems to be in the city I must arrange something

sports day was fun they had plenty of parent volunteers for the races and it all got very competitive, the kids thing was very good too teams across the years with circle of games all foam javelins and plastic discus 1st 2nd and 3rd teams got medals
all in all good fun in the sun while we got the info on the new teacher and oh dear I worry, apparently she is not very good at spelling

dolphyn be lovely to see you of course, do send us a message even if it is a kids picnic at Kew, you must see the new play areas danger there is the new menus too much yummy stuff

sfxmum · 30/06/2010 18:23

vbus meant to add glad school matters seem settled

lordcoper FIL used to go fishing regularly took all his boys and granddaughter none really took to it, but catching or growing own food sounds satisfying

tillyfernackerpants · 30/06/2010 19:48

Sorry dusty, I missed what week you were over but yes would love to meet up at Kew if poss. Also a nice shady play area at QC cottage which I've now been to thanks to pcw's tip, much nicer imvho!

Sfx/vbus, for me I could do 20 or then after 26 as I'm off up to my mum's for a few days when ds1 finishes school.

Update on brother saga (if you remember ), he's now realised he made the "biggest mistake of his life" & so has dashed off to Poland to try & beg her to come back!! Am waiting for next installment from my mum once she's spoken to them both!

Hope to see some of you there!

dustythedolphin · 01/07/2010 12:06
