Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

sfxmum · 19/06/2010 15:22

hello all

thanks tilly never miss an opportunity to sing his praises I will really miss him not being around

mellow lovely to see you around funny that dd was talking about mini mellow last week regarding starting school

lordcopper I was reading a review of the opening written by a fan and she said that you don't buy the wand in the normal way but that they worked out a clever way of the wand choosing you and yes she does look lovely

went to local fete with dd am now broke
and quite tired

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/06/2010 15:45

Home alone but not doing anything exciting apart from tidying up .

sfxmum · 19/06/2010 18:24

here they are hammering coconuts

vbus · 19/06/2010 19:43

Sfx - indeed
Glad exam went well. I too would love to go HP world, sad eh?

Copper - hope your parents enjoyed their visit

Mellow - glad house coming along well.

Been busy packing and watching football. Not sure how I'm going to fit in the tennis next week as well Convinced my mum to stay an extra week which meant we could go to Ikea without kids today which was bliss. Can't believe only a wk to go til we move into new place

Hope everyone else well

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/06/2010 19:54

sfx - who is hammering coconuts?

vbus - we enjoyed parents' visit. Hopefully they did too! Lots of shopping for souvenirs. Great fun! Don't get many chances of buying bears in guard uniform and money boxes in the shape of red phone boxes.
I like going to Ikea, and I don't even mind paying for the goods. I just don't like the queuing (sp??) at the tills. Surely they can do better than make everyone wait for hours.

There's Hanwell Carnival round the corner, but didn't go.

I don't like all this sports on TV. What is a normal person to watch!?

sfxmum · 19/06/2010 20:23

coconuts dd&dh yum

vbus I do like Ikea it is like a sweet shop, dd not keen and prefers staying in the playroom

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/06/2010 22:30

Just finished watching the Swedish Wallander. So good.

sfx - if you hammer coconut doesn't the juice all fall out and spill?

vbus · 20/06/2010 19:06

there should be a soft spot on top of coconut, you can usually push a pencil or something sharp through and then stick a straw in it to drink the milk, yum

sfxmum · 20/06/2010 20:07

quite right vbus the 3 eyes are softer spots I favour a nail and hammer the hammer along the sides to spilt it

went to birthday party at Brentford Leisure centre and am impress with refurbishments the soft play is quite good and the changing rooms are quite swish

had a nice weekend even if mostly just carting dd to her social engagements

must start training properly this week my running times are dire atm

hope everyone is well

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/06/2010 22:01

vbus - got email! Did you watch the Swedish Wallander on BBC4 last night? Last in series.

Lazy weekend. Feel a bit out of sorts...

sfxmum · 21/06/2010 13:10

hello all

watching the Portugal game I hope they do well but somehow I just have to watch a bit of it to get annoyed by the silly players

vbus speaking of Sweden, yesterday was talking to a British mum who grew up in Sweden now married to a Swede who spends all her Summer there, it left me wanted to visit even more than before, she stays around the West coast, is that an area you are familiar with?

lordcopper must catch up with Wallander several people have told me it is pretty good, including the books

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/06/2010 18:03

sfx - football is silly.

Wallander books pretty good. Swedish series very good. Kenneth Branagh one OK too. Last Swedish series so very very good. Never thought I'd enjoy a subtitled programme so much. Problem is you can't take your eyes off the telly at all ...

Bought new scooter for kids.

Have not stop sneezing since having a whiff of someone's perfume at school pick-up.

And still haven't got a cleaner.

vbus · 21/06/2010 19:20

Hello

Sfx - good result?

Copper - didn't get into Wallander as it was all in Swedish it's v. popular over there though, haven't read the books.

We were in Stockholm and visited surrounding areas but didn't quite make it to W. coast. It is such a beautiful country, deffo worth visiting some time. DH going back in a few wks for sailing trip with some of our Swedish friends

Still the same old packing and unpacking for me. DS1 rm almost ready. Feels quite surreal as move has happened so fast.

sfxmum · 21/06/2010 20:45

vbus I think you are due for a jolly without the children
result was satisfactory dd insist England are better and shall win the World Cupshe clearly has the making of a true footy supporter, all faith and no reason

lorcopper speaking of sneezing the other day I was jogging along and someone was cutting grass in the river bank and honestly I nearly chocked, had to catch my breath

the subtitles thing is not great when totally unfamiliar with the language no chance of grasping meaning while only half looking, not sure I have the concentration required atm

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/06/2010 21:21

sfx - know what you mean about subtitles, nonetheless DH and I found the programmes riveting, and you sit through 1 1/2 hours before you know it. Can't watch anything in a language I know with subtitles though - always fancy myself a better translator!

I don't sneeze for cut grass or fragrance of flowers (which is lucky since we have lovely-smelling roses in the garden ATM). Pollen and perfume and dust, I think.

We have ONE Icelandic poppy flower in the derelict part of our front garden, and hopefully lots more to come! Most reassuring, since the leaves look monstrous.

sfxmum · 21/06/2010 21:44

quite true lordcopper some of the translations are hilarious but the subtitles in English for English programmes are far worst

UptoapointLordCopper · 22/06/2010 20:06

We have FOUR icelandic poppy today!!! Yeah!

Half listened to the budget on radio.

I'm still a bit astonished at the Free school business though. Is it a good idea? Seems to me the fact that most groups wanting to start their own schools are teachers is not something to be proud of - rather an indictment on current state of schools ... But then what do I know?

sfxmum · 22/06/2010 20:43

lordcopper personally the 'Free school' business worries me from the point of view that it would completely deregulate education, good some would say given the constant tinkering with educational ideas but in practice I fear it would emphasise the disparity in school provision, good schools for those who can afford them, awful substandard zoos for those who can't.

like most things relating to public services, I feel it is fine if you believe you and yours can't possibly ever be in need of those services and don't really care about anyone else

I just can't see how writing off the poor and their children makes for a better society, imagine the waste

sfxmum · 23/06/2010 08:59

hello all, lovely day again, thinking of going to Kingston so if anyone going that way and fancies lunch/refreshments let me know

hope everyone is well

Kewcumber · 23/06/2010 15:02

hello all, bumped into Oxo yesterday in M&S with youngest DD who was just a bump when I last saw her! She seems well but busy.

I have first oarents evening at new school on Thursday night how did that come around so fast?

Only two more weeks then I can move onto "normal" soft food (rather than puree) and will be able to start lifting thigns again... hurrah In the meantime I am going campng this weekend and will have to prevail upon kindly fellow campers to get my trailer tent up!!!

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/06/2010 21:44

Hello!

sfx - so what did you buy?

Kew - did you try flinging puree at the wall to see what it was that fascinated weaning babies?

We've got sports day this week. I suppose one must turn up ...

sfxmum · 23/06/2010 22:06

KewC good luck for the meeting, as far as I recall we were shown pictures of the current Reception Class and what they do
plus some trade words to baffle parents on what exactly they are supposed to be doing

I guess that means they already know which teacher will be teaching each class next year, am really hopping we keep this one going forward at least one more year

LOL at flinging purée

lordcopper I meant to be getting shoes as I normally just wear boots (not for this weather) or flip flops, I failed to find what I wanted, which was strappy buckled flatish sandals (yes I am being that specific) also promised self to get an everyday Summer dress, not an easy thing dresses just don't fit me right

in the end got a shirt and a couple of tshirts plus cropped leggings, got a dressy dress too oh well might have to go shopping again

sfxmum · 23/06/2010 22:08

also just got my Amazon parcel with the book I really wanted to read and some really trashy novels, perfect Summer reading

Kewcumber · 23/06/2010 23:38

flinging puree jokes not funny I shall force you all to eat lquids/purees for 6 weeks then you will understand why babies fling the bloody stuff.

vbus · 24/06/2010 10:39

KC - what's the first solid meal you're going to eat?

Sfx - well done on shopping. I'll prob be in Kingston Fri after lunch if you're going then text me

Copper - good luck for parents race

I'm about to pack up pc, I'm v. excited about moving into new place!!! Poor DS2 seems to be running a fever though which is really slowing down my progress but anwyay what we don't move tom we can always get next wk. Hope he feels better soon
