Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Dusty, ds2 would look so cool with a Beatles haircut

Pc, sorry you've all been ill, glad you're on the mend. Can't believe ds will be 2

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

Hello!

Aila - welcome. I don't live anywhere near you so don't know anything! The only thing I know about Barnes is the Wetland centre which is nice.

We went to a park by the grand union canal in Perivale today - pirate ships and other things to climb on. DS2 nearly fell off. Very scary. But lovely quiet park. Can hear birdsongs!

Kewcumber · 19/05/2010 22:26

cake I am not allowed cake. On very reatrictive medically supervied diet - 800 cals ans v low carbs and fat. I am having wet dreams about cake. And bread. And crisps. and... well virtually everything really except vegetables which I have more than enough of thank you.

sfxmum · 20/05/2010 09:49

hello all

aila hi welcome can't really help dd is nearly 5 we are in Kew but I never went to many groups but afaik most churches and sports centres have groups as apparently do Pubs these days
and definitely Kew Gardens - sanity saving place

vbus we might go to Kew Friday for a picnic after school, sun is promised as is dh leaving work early
and for our outing we will need to pre book and elbow Twihard teens out of the way

KewC that sounds radical and pre op like, and quite hard going, you have my sympathy, hope you are getting proper support

here usual, carnage going on at dh's work, child protection unit being really cut yet again much gloom about, he is looking for a job now

on the plus side it is near half time and Paris

Kewcumber · 20/05/2010 10:23

'tis indeed pre-op. Support is reasonable but all the support in the world can't stop you wanting to tuck into a yummy baked potato!

Good luck to DH in his job hunt

sfxmum · 20/05/2010 12:06

good grief KewC it has obviously been longer than I thought since we last spoke
sounds serious, aren't you taking this affair with medicine a bit too far?

a couple of solid hrs study put me in mood for treats, best go running then and ignore dodgy knee, old age is a bugger

dustythedolphin · 20/05/2010 13:16

Aila Hi I live is the west of Ireland but used to live in Kew and miss my MN friends

Vbus of meet up and I cannot join you

SFX well done on having such a productive day - feels good doesn't it (...er well it does, when I occassionally have one...)Good idea to fit two courses in, whilst you have the momentum. Do you know what type of work you want?

Still have the didge and DH plays occassionally (after I bought it and met DH I discovered it is a "male" only instrument in aboriginal culture). He plays a wee bit and an aboriginal cricketer gave DS1 a lesson last year (he didn't learn much but I have nice pics of it)

Work is mega you just cannot imagine it type of stressful. Boss ultra controlling and wielding hew power as am still on probation, BUT I have managed to manage-out an very disruptive member of staff in my team and achieve some good targets in terms of our business. Not sure whether that will be recognised though

Hope everyone is well and surviving the coalition

pcworld · 20/05/2010 14:30

Bought a packet of "mini-Magnums" for the freezer (on offer last time I was at the supermarket). Have just eaten 3 which I don't think is very good. Will have to walk extra fast to school.

Dusty, sorry to hear that it is all so stressful on the work front. When is your probation period up, perhaps things will ease up afterwards? Hope that you and the family are enjoying all the other aspects.

SFX, good luck to your dh on the job front, similar situation at this end.

Aila, welcome - think there must be loads of groups in Richmond, perhaps have a look on netmums, too, for ideas.

Anyone fancy meeting up on the Weds of half-term week? Although I know that SOME of you will be en vacances

Kewcumber · 20/05/2010 14:41

sfx - haven't really discussed op with many as I wasn't expecting it to be so soon; have had operation sprung on me a bit - week saturday and will need 3-4 weeks to recover at home.

I'm rather hoping it will be the last time I am intimately acquainted with hospitals. My various ailemnts are keeping doctors on their toes which is funy to watch - they particularly blanche at the "zero platelets" bit of my file and are dificult to reassure that I amin remission. Sadly it means that "best" painkillers are not available to me as they potentially attack your platelets

Kewcumber · 20/05/2010 14:54

I will be out of hospital on Weds of half term week though I don't know how mobile - adventure playground is always good for me as DS loves it and if I book ahead I can get a mobility scooter if I'm not yet mobile.

pcworld · 20/05/2010 16:15

Oh, Kew - you poor girl, you'll be glad when it's all over. Let's see how you feel on that Weds - perhaps the adventure playground would work well in terms of wearing out entertaining your ds which could be helpful.

sfxmum · 20/05/2010 20:52

hello all

dusty (wave) poo to annoying bosses, hope probation goes well, do you have any interim appraisal prior to end of term?
about work I expect I will be looking for something in social care but much prefer urban/ community regeneration programmes, might veer toward children and families if I take leave of my senses

pcW My special treat was a delicious mini bar of Montezuma chilli choc yum yum damned Olivers now stock them and I only went in for Tofu
best wishes for you DH it is hell out there now but I expect it will settle

another day of on timetable revising and some running

sfxmum · 20/05/2010 20:55

KewC have emailed you

you must stop this attempts to get into the Guinness book of records Tut Tut

I imagine the zero platelets would be a worry when contemplating surgery, they shall have to do a blood drive in anticipation

sfxmum · 20/05/2010 20:55

do you have a rare blood group too?

vbus · 20/05/2010 21:49

Hello all

KC - You just can't stay away from hospitals eh? Good luck for op and recovery. Let us know if you need anything or help with DS

Dusty - you can't come too,we'll have a drink for you. Sorry to hear work is stressful, why won't they give you credit for your targets?

Tilly/PCW - is 8pm ok for you for nibbles/drinks? Have wine, beer and soft drinks but if you want something in particluar just bring it with you

Sfx - glad study is going well. Enjoy Kew, weather is meant to be fab!

So tired, it's been a busy week. Should head to bed now but new phone arrived today so must go and play a little!

Aila · 20/05/2010 23:31

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay in replying. We still need to sort out the Internet in our new place so have limited access to the net. We have no tv or broadband at the mo and DH doesn't know how to cope without it!!

I am using my dodgy iPhone, which has been mishandled by DD so much that it has a mind of it's own and doesn't always connect to the net..

Thanks so much to everyone for replying! I have never been to the wetlands centre or kew gardens (moved from Scotland 5 years ago) so will take my two and also check out local churches and netmums.

Vbus we have moved from London Bridge, was great for going out and commuting to work but we have been meaning to move since we had children and finally we have! I work part time Mon-Wed but I understand cheeky monkeys is on a Friday too, do you ever go then?

vbus · 21/05/2010 14:44

Hello

Aila- my bro lives in Bermondsey so we go there sometimes to visit. Can't do CM on Fridays as have music class on the morning, but have next Fri afternoon free as inset day at nursery if you/anyone else wants to meet up?

Just found out DS1 has his 1st sports day next Thurs, ooh the excitment!

Kewcumber · 21/05/2010 14:45

I would be up for KEw next Friday afetrnoon... if no better suggestions.

vbus · 21/05/2010 14:54

I was thinking about that or will find out if 1 oclock club open til 5pm yet, they might not do that til June...

sfxmum · 21/05/2010 15:02

all these plans seem to hinge on the weather

off to Kew in a tick looks glorious

hope everyone is well

Aila · 21/05/2010 15:57

Hi, next Friday afternoon sounds good. The weather is gorgeous today. Given up on unpacking, have the essentials out so thats good enough for me! Making the most of my day off to relax in the garden and have checked out the local park.

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/05/2010 20:23

Hello!

Had quite a nice day until early evening when I discovered DS2 had been throwing library books about and one had gone missing. Was very upset and told him off loudly and severely. Eventually did find book under boxes under bed. Did not improve my mood to find under-bed very dusty. Why did cleaner not clean under bed?

Now someone come and tell me it's too nice a day to be cross about things like that.

dustythedolphin · 22/05/2010 20:57

Copper non of my cleaners have ever done under the bed! IKWYM about libraray books, I hate it when the Dcs damage a ;library book - feel mega guilty as well

SFX - I moved from Community Regen to children & families when I moved over here...boss is turning me into a nervous wreck

The member of staff who Boss most hates in the world has resigned, basically 'cos she realised I was about to discipline her. Boss is all over me ATM as a result of me "managing out" troublesome person and its just annoying! Like being managed by Jeckyl & Hyde!

Glorious weather. My knees got sunburnt today in the garden

tillyfernackerpants · 23/05/2010 08:57

Hi everyone, hope you're all enjoying the weather!!

sfx, how's the revising going?

vbus, thanks for Friday, really nice to catch up without ds's interrupting . Ds1 has his sports day after half-term. Am really looking forward to it, apparently they've been practising running!!

kew, hope the op goes well

Copper, I've never known a cleaner to do under the beds!! But then the last cleaner I had it was a miracle if I could get her to clean the bathroom

Well, chicken pox has finally descended in our house, ds1 woke up covered this morning! We've probably managed to infect most of London as well, as he didn't have any symptoms until today!!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 23/05/2010 10:05

hello all

tilly good luck with the pox
revising ok thanks, tutorial was boring but nice to meet up with fellow students again

dusty we shall see all interesting areas did you work under the NDC funding? heard of some very good projects other not so much, suppose it all depended on the quality of implementation

  • I worry when nutty bosses start being nice you never can trust what is going on behind your back - so stressful, hope it settles

tilly when you texted Friday I was still at Kew, yesterday was quite pleasant too, today off to sister's and possibly a birthday pub lunch by the river, certainly the weather for it

hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine

vbus · 24/05/2010 14:24

Hello all

Hope everyone enjoying this lovely, sizzling weather

Tilly - thanks for coming over, was nice to have a good old chat Hope Ds1 not suffering too much with the pox, checkout DS2 in about 2wks time

Dusty - almost easier to cope with a mean boss, certainly harder to deal with one who keeps switching between horrid and nice, hang in there

Aila/Kew/PCW - happy to meet at Kew Gardens Fri. Will be there around 3pm after DS2 nap, hope that's ok. Does anyone have a spare pass for aila?

Went to Kew yesterday, it was beautiful. BBQ on Sat. It has been one of my fave weekends so far this year, very relaxing
