Hi all, can't believe I have to start the new thread

Slng, lol @ ds2!

Sfx, sparkle sounds nice!

I'm having to bribe ds1 to leave the house atm, that can't be right surely

He had his nativity yesterday, all lines remembered though there was a bit of yawning during it

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 23/03/2010 22:28

which particular smug git? Could you be more specific there are so many to chose from...

Oh I had forgotten about phone, how funny that I'm not on the scrounge! {NB no longer on scrounge - shamed myself into parting with money}

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/03/2010 08:12

Kew - exactly. Which smug git NOT to vote for, eh? The one who had to f**king see for himself the effects of global warming? Serious lack of intelligence apart from being a smug git. The one who feels the pain of us common people because he had to give up Ocado deliveries? That surely is an unprecedented level of smugness. Hmm... the list could go on ... Too early in the morning to think such depressing thoughts ...

Must rouse self out of torpor and make packed lunch.

sfxmum · 24/03/2010 10:09

hello all

talk of smug gitness cannot bear the thought of having Zac as my next MP, pretty as he is

Kewcumber is your phone working? need to speak to you please sometime this week, am trying to help a friend and think your mum might be the best person to give me some advice if that is ok

shall try to spend day productively writing an essay so can visit sister tomorrow and eat cake on her birthday

vbus · 24/03/2010 13:44

Hello all

KC - at least your consultation will pay for your new phone

Copper- if he likes books why not buy another. I bought DS1 about 7 books for his pressie but half were from charity shop so not all big spends

Sfx - that's a good idea having cake for your essay motivation

It's weird weather isn't it? Not quite warm enough to shed your coat but not cold enough for winter coat. Typically DS1 insisted on wearing a jumper as well as winter coat. Struggled to get him to wear jumpers over winter though

tillyfernackerpants · 24/03/2010 14:13

vbus, lol, ds1 is now insisting his hands are cold so he needs gloves, especially in the house!!

Copper, definitely get more books if he enjoys them!

Ds1 seems to have lost interest in reading , am hoping he will get into it again soon.

Sfx, how's the essay going?

OP posts:
vbus · 24/03/2010 14:24

Tilly - LOL re:gloves. Better not mention that to my DS1 he might like that idea
Are you free on 14th for Easter meet?

sfxmum · 24/03/2010 14:29

vbus regarding clothing dilemma t shirt cardi light rain jacket that is sartorial advice for you

tilly essay not bad so far need a break now then will prune and tidy, at least slept well last night, can't believe I went to bed at 10pm

about reading, the requirement at reception level is not very hard, there is a list of high frequency words they must know but quite a few are beyond that already and moving up to yr1 targets, the key is having a school that meets needs at every level, just don't rely on school books fostering interest, they seem to be generally boring with the odd honourable exception

and politics Cameron announced wife's pregnancy and today leaflet through door with pic of him cuddling a newborn - I feel sick

sfxmum · 24/03/2010 14:30

about the 14th I might not be able to join, not sure yet but dh will be doing his 10k race in Hyde park that afternoon/ early evening.

vbus · 24/03/2010 14:37

We can meet any other day that week. I just picked 14th randomly as it was midwk! Do you want to do another day instead then?

sfxmum · 24/03/2010 14:45

I will keep you posted, not talked to dh about it as he is on another crisis mode best avoid future plan mundane talk for now, bless him

I have not run since Sunday and now can't run much to avoid tiring on Saturday, have you all seen the MN relay run thing thread? fund-raising going well it seems

tillyfernackerpants · 24/03/2010 15:06

vbus, can't do 14th unfortunately.

sfx, good luck with run! Glad essay has gone well, the cake motivation really did work! Can imagine DC leaflet.

I was amused by the campaign leaflet sent by our local Lib Dems. Hot issue of the minute is a hotel name

Re reading, he's brought his first book home from school which is the Oxford Reading Tree, no words in it though . I just meant even at home with his own books he's lost interest, I wonder if he's just getting used to having to do it at school as well so doesn't fancy it much at home!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 24/03/2010 16:58

thanks tilly shall plod along

about essay round about this stage I decide it is all wrong and start again but at least keep a copy and the end result is a mish mash of both versions

dh home earlycan't get him to cook as it is fish and it seems to be against his principles to handle it

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/03/2010 19:19

Hello!

Re: books for DS2, have decided to let him go and spend his world book day token himself. Early training for capitalism/consumerism. But have procured SFX's recommendation.

tilly - our school doesn't seem to do the phonics books. We have "story street" books which are actually quite entertaining. DS1 likes them.

sfx - at pic of DC cuddling baby. Who would allow such a thing? Luckily no one ever come canvassing around here, or if they drop leaflets they are usually too late - we do postal votes and always send off asap in case they get lost among the litter art works.

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/03/2010 12:17

Note to self: remember to let DS2 switch on the washing machine.

He was most aggrieved last time, and I suspect an interest in housework is not to be discouraged ...

sfxmum · 25/03/2010 17:00

LOL lordcopper whatever you do, do not discourage interest in housework

dd has been really getting an attitude answering back and using language we just don't allow in this house seems like my every other interaction is setting her straight

anyway essays dispatched spend day with sister making sure she was pampered and discussing our business plans I do think I will take the plunge

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/03/2010 20:55

Washing machine successfully started. One satisfied customer.

sfx - we have days where it seems everyone is just winding everyone else up ... I turn a blind eye/ear as long as it's not too bad and they didn't know I saw/heard it ...

sfxmum · 25/03/2010 21:19

yes we have some of those but this seems like boundary pushing, obviously stuff she hears at school

anyway school disco tomorrow oh the excitement

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/03/2010 10:00

sfx - DS1 went through a phase of imitating some odd behaviour such as spitting but got over it quite quickly. I see reception as the time to learn how not to follow the crowd, the slogan being "millions of flies eat shit doesn't mean I have to" ... (Do flies eat shit!?)

dustythedolphin · 26/03/2010 16:37

SFX whose newborn was DC cuddling . I must admit I admire the planning skills of the locals to get the leaflet through the doors on the correct day

PC yes they love it here (tho' miss their friends, but they ring them sometimes and will see them in the summer). DS1 had his first tin whistle lesson last night (he can play sax and recoder so can adappt easily to the whistle) and they have swimming lessons at a pool amongst some seaside holiday cottages

Kew I trust its not you biting your mobile phones ...

I haven't found anyone into "Mum's nights outs" yet - not sure if the local mum's tend to do them reallly, perhaps I should suggest one and start a trend?

dustythedolphin · 26/03/2010 16:39

NOT

dustythedolphin · 26/03/2010 16:40

SFX well done on getting essay completed

Kewcumber · 26/03/2010 16:49

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/936371-I-39-m-having-a-shitty-week-so-be-say?rnd=1269621812688 I'm having a bad week, come and be sympathetic to me...

sfxmum · 26/03/2010 18:35

hello

wave to Dusty

lordcopper I expect this is what parenting is all about apparently requires some effort on our part as if pregnancy and labour wasn't enough

dh is trying to sabotage diet and running with wine and nice puddings shame I have almost zero self control today

back from disco, dd has some moves

sfxmum · 26/03/2010 19:29

and btw kewcumber and sushi good luck for tomorrow morning

Kewcumber · 26/03/2010 19:31
