Hi all, can't believe I have to start the new thread

Slng, lol @ ds2!

Sfx, sparkle sounds nice!

I'm having to bribe ds1 to leave the house atm, that can't be right surely

He had his nativity yesterday, all lines remembered though there was a bit of yawning during it

my dentist David Callaghan is lovely - Kew Dental Practice North road (just by t he tube on my side). VEry good for adults too though v expensive but the best dentist I've ever been to.

SushiMummy · 25/02/2010 09:36

Thanks, KC. I'll call them today.

tillyfernackerpants · 25/02/2010 10:16

sfx, only watched first 2 episodes, but love it. Think dh is a little disappointed, not much action so far

Copper, hope ds2 is ok

sfxmum · 25/02/2010 10:33

good morning all

tilly no spaceships and gunfights I grant you but all the great character driven storylines are there, love it

lordcopper how is the thumb?

sushi second recommendation of dentist but have been dodging them as I am a bit short of cash

no headlice so far fingers crossed

managed to run just after drop off which was nice and invigorating, but am completely exhausted dd slept very badly last night and it took me ages to get back to sleep each time, then dh fidgeted endlessly until he gave up and got up at 5 proceeding to make assorted noises about the flat

vbus · 25/02/2010 13:38

hello all

Sorry not been on much, crazy days now back into nursery routine again. Also had parents evening chat yesterday.

Sfx - have you gone for snooze yet? Can't wait to see BA, last time I saw them was in 1999 in a desert in Dubai!

Tilly - you can use normal apples for crumble just use less sugar as eating apples are sweeter. This is basically what I had to do in Sweden as they don't sell cooking apples there, v.strange

Sushi - you could try Toothy beary's in Richmond, v.child friendly, but again expensive

Copper - how is patient's thumb?

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2010 15:30

Hello!

Spent morning at A&E. No "radiographical fracture" on thumb, ie, nothing we can see. Said to bring him back next week if it still hurts. In fact it was already looking a lot better at the end of the 2.5 hours ... Still, better safe than sorry, I guess. DS2 good as gold at hospital but went completely loopy at lunch. And then did assorted chores. DH gone to get DS1. Parents evening tonight. May send DH instead.

We all have NHS dentist. She's quite nice. And they have the children's map of the world on the ceiling. I'm thinking of asking them to change it. Bit sick of it now.

Have been watching Being Human. Very funny. But don't believe you can NOT know girlfriend's last name. Looking forward to mayhem on Sunday's episode.

sfxmum · 25/02/2010 15:55

vbus no snooze it is all go go go
no Dubai weather last year the queens were dancing in the rain, so to speak

lordcopper bummer about the hospital, gold dust NHS dentist
loved Being Human latest episode was fab can't wait for finale although last season's finale was the weakest episode imo
my favourite was the one with the depressed ghost and all the great music

did not realise Damages was back must catch up on iplayer also have Up in the Air to watch

pretty good movies out this year

sfxmum · 25/02/2010 15:57

btw tried to talk to teacher today but not much luck will chat tomorrow she apparently not that concerned and asked if I wanted to leave it for parents evening at the end of March

pcworld · 25/02/2010 16:13

Hello, remember me Sorry for prolonged absence and also was disappointed not to see some of you on Friday, hope you had a good get-together.

SFX, teachers can be tricky to access, eh? Hope all is ok. Was v lazy and drove to school this afternoon rather than face the prolonged journey home with ds insisting on "walking" in the pouring rain. We did, however, manage a runaround at Kew this morning. New playground outside c&c looks good.

Just thrown together a mince with hidden veg thing for tea (ds is on veg strike) and now wondering about howe we will fill the next few hours. I am feeling brave, perhaps some art and craft materials will come out - dd will be thrilled, ds will be .... keen to become "fully involved" / carnage emoticon

tillyfernackerpants · 25/02/2010 17:46

Hi pcw, glad you're still around

hi vbus, thanks for apples tip, good to know for a crumble emergency .

sfx, have you seen there is a BSG film called The Plan? Its from the Cylons point of view and apparently after seeing it, we'll have to go watch the series again . Guess I'll have to go & get them all on dvd to watch!

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 25/02/2010 18:07

Btw, I'm honestly not obsessed with BSG at all, promise

OP posts:
sfxmum · 25/02/2010 19:00

tilly am waiting for the prices to come down probably towards the end of the year and get the whole BSG, aware of The Plan can't wait

Hi pcW did not know new playground was open but in this weather not surprising, did you do crafts in the end? at half term out entire flat was overrun with a junk modelling fair, at least I could blame the disarray on the child

sfxmum · 25/02/2010 19:01

and it is written by Jane Espenson of Buffy fame

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2010 19:21

Hello!

Survived parents' evening. Solved a few mysteries.

sfx - I've always had NHS dentist. DH's old private dentists were rubbish. Only trying to flog white teeth. But I thought kiddies get free treatment anyway?

Are you trying to get to the bottom of this SALT business?

pcworld - DS2 is going through a phase of "I've tried this at nursery and didn't like it" to try to get out of eating things. While there's no reason why nursery shouldn't cook them Cantonese-style steamed fish with dried shiitake mushrooms, it does seem unlikely... I do the "oh well, I'll chuck it in the bin then" act and it all gets eaten.

And I always do apple crumble with eating apples. Don't like bramleys. And I use raisins to sweeten them. Is that heretical?

vbus · 25/02/2010 19:24

Hello PCW - hope crafts session went well. forgot about new playground will have to try it sometime

Sfx - not got into Being Human this series as I missed 1st episode then I didn't like to watch the rest, will wait for dvd! I did watch one episode of Glee, not sure about that one...

Looking fwd to going round to ds1 friend's house tom after nursery for tea and chat. Today she called me to say she has invited 3 others from nusery (+ siblings) and that they will be doing a painting session and then they can all stay for tea. I'm curious how this multi activity based playdate will pan out....isn't it enough to get some toys and offer some food these days?

vbus · 25/02/2010 19:28

Copper - completely heretical The taste is soooo much better with cooking apples

tillyfernackerpants · 25/02/2010 20:46

vbus, I only get activities out if I think they're getting bored, otherwise I try & shoo them up to ds1's bedroom and leave them to it

sfx, cool re writer

OP posts:
vbus · 25/02/2010 21:14

Tilly - that's my strategy too

tillyfernackerpants · 26/02/2010 09:40

arrggghhh!! How do children learn to be so stubborn?!

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 26/02/2010 09:52

Good morning!

Just broke my own rule and commented on futility of mum at nursery telling very upset child to calm down. Wish I kept my mouth shut.

tilly - is it because they've been tumble-dried?

tillyfernackerpants · 26/02/2010 10:01

copper, lol, ds2 was tumble dried, this was ds1!

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 26/02/2010 11:33

tilly - perhaps DS1 needs tumble-drying too. Anyway I think it's just a matter of the kiddies wanting to feel in control. Says she who has no clue what actually happened. What actually happened?

sfxmum · 26/02/2010 12:32

hello all

LOL at tumble drying funniest thing I read yesterday

tilly think huge force / immovable object you are the one who ends up cracking up, I have vowed to remain calm and not create conflict

particularly on way to school thins morning
'mummy stop you are making me walk on the cracks of the pavement' a few more of these, proud to say we were laughing and joking when we got to school albeit with a fair amount of internal swearing and shouting

lordcopper did the mother get uppity with you?

Managed to talk to teacher today, apparently we are on the same page and have the same opinion on the matter so that is ok then

anyway been to town, went running now housework to do, as little as I can possibly get away with I think.
debating whether to attend tutorial tomorrow...

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/02/2010 13:07

sfx - didn't comment to mother herself. How mad do you think I am? Commented to staff ... but staff said they can't interfere.

I hate it when people make you all worried and annoyed and then later change their position. Sometimes feel like you have to record all conversation.

tillyfernackerpants · 26/02/2010 17:45

Ds1 refusing to get dressed or eat his breakfast this morning, took a while & the threat of me feeding him to finally get sorted.

Sfx, I usually use distraction, laughter etc but unfortunately I'm not a morning person so usually end up cracking, or is that cracking up?!

But pleased to report day got better. We now have John Bear from school to entertain over the weekend!
