Hi all, can't believe I have to start the new thread

Slng, lol @ ds2!

Sfx, sparkle sounds nice!

I'm having to bribe ds1 to leave the house atm, that can't be right surely

He had his nativity yesterday, all lines remembered though there was a bit of yawning during it

vbus · 28/01/2010 19:41

Slng - another vote of recipe please seeing as I'm going to have leftover egg whites! I'm going to make those cookies again this wkend as have some friends coming over but will try it with raisons this time.

Sfx - the risotto I made today is v.low fat. I do have more sinful risotto recipes including an all butter one I've still got my specs in my bag too

Tilly - yes just keeping experiments to the wkend, that way if DS1 does have a bad reaction DH on hand to help out. So, onto wk3...

Swim lessons were excellent, despite Ds1 initial reluctance to get in pool he then really enjoyed it

Quiet night needed here too

sfxmum · 28/01/2010 19:43

tilly what channel? Tuesday likely to be 'finish the essay day no matter how late it has to go before bed'

vbus good to hear swimming went well

slng · 28/01/2010 19:50

Hello!

Lemon butter cookies and Krantz cake both from Dan Lepard's book Exceptional Cakes. Good title, eh? Can't find recipes online but can photocopy for Saturday. I think I should branch out a bit - virtually all our baked goods are Dan Lepard's recipes!

sfx - krantz cake like brioche.

tillyfernackerpants · 28/01/2010 20:02

slng, that's one of the books on my list

sfx, on Sky 1, 9pm, so will no doubt be repeated another night!

vbus, glad ds1's swimming lesson went well. Does he get in on his own?

OP posts:
slng · 28/01/2010 20:20

tilly - the ones I use most are the ones in the guardian weekend columns. And the free baking guide, and the Handmade loaf. This is the first time I use anything in Exceptional cakes. Mainly because everything looks so unhealthy . It's a beautiful book though ...

sfxmum · 28/01/2010 20:43

next week I will be baking choc cake and carrot cake for my party I think all other food comes from supermarket

slng · 29/01/2010 11:04

Hello!

Party, sfx?

I want to make choux pastry. I'm sure we used to make them when we were little. How difficult can it be?

Working but bored.

sfxmum · 29/01/2010 11:20

slng my mum made choux but she never taught me how to, I wasn't interested at the time as I recall temperature is a crucial factor as I suppose it is with most pastry

party is just really family but with extra cake

hello all

should be writing essay but distracted by Tony Blair

mellow2 · 29/01/2010 12:19

Hello all,

Working from home today but actually skiving on MN.

Anyway, the interior of the house is nearly finished and I can start doing fun bits like buying soft furnishings. Now that life is nearly normal again, I should be on here a little bit more often.

mellow2 · 29/01/2010 12:24

Sorry, can't join you in all this baking convo.

sfxmum · 29/01/2010 12:41

but can you join us tomorrow for dinner?

mellow2 · 29/01/2010 12:54

Yes, has asked vbus to add me to the list.

vbus · 29/01/2010 13:41

Hello Mellow, glad you can play tom

Slng - thanks in advance for recipe. Think I'll just stick with scones and cookies for this wkend, will have enough other cooking to do with all the guests coming.

isn't there something fiddly about making choux pastry, can't remember what though!

Tilly - yes DS1 has to get in and out himself. I think he was scared at start as it was his 1st time in pool wihout me, once he was in the water he loved it. Only 4 in the class perfect for him

BTW does anyone fancy half term meet up? We're away 1st half of week but could meet Fri 19th if anyone about?

sfxmum · 29/01/2010 14:10

19th half term meet up sounds good, on 17th taking dd to my Pilates class then swimming should keep her busy and entertained

tired now

mellow2 · 29/01/2010 17:08

I may be able to join you on Fri 19th. Afternoon would be better than morning for me.

slng · 29/01/2010 17:53

19th sounds good.

Done vouchers and recipes!

One loaf of krantz cake finished! Kids called it the curly-whorly chocolate thing and said to make more. What they don't know is that the other one is in the freezer.

tillyfernackerpants · 29/01/2010 18:07

Can't do the 19th, we have a regular thing on Friday's now. We're also off to visit a fire station at the half term, ds1 is hoping they get called out so he can see them all dash off

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 29/01/2010 21:21

I've just received ds1's targets from his school. Apparently he should achieve these by the end of the spring term , not sure if this is for ds1 or for Ofsted!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 30/01/2010 10:58

so what are the targets?
at dd's they did not send us targets just talked about them at parents evening, like what is the expected level of literacy and maths to be achieved by the end of the year

off to take children to music and run later in the sun

looking forward to tonight

slng · 30/01/2010 16:38

There are targets aplenty. Shame nobody told the children. Or if they did it probably went the way of everything else you told them, ie, in one ear out the other. Like the funny thread on pointless things to tell children.

voucher and photocopied recipes in my grey bag. Remind me to take my grey bag.

tillyfernackerpants · 31/01/2010 12:40

slng, yep! Funny thing about the targets I've got for ds1 is that he can do them, he does them at home but is apparently completely not bothered about doing them at school, he just wants to play

Hope you all had a nice time last night. Sorry I couldn't make it. I did think of you all as I went to bed at 8pm .

OP posts:
sfxmum · 31/01/2010 13:18

tilly hope you rested some
it was nice last night just 5 of us the place was noisy and full
let us book another one soon

my course online project is annoying me already one of the group members has decided to contest everything I say as group co ordinator and writes long post detailing my incompetence for the role with added links to articles for me to improve my skills takes me back to managing staff teams
complete wanker pardon my French

sfxmum · 31/01/2010 13:21

sorry offloading there

tillyfernackerpants · 31/01/2010 13:34

sfx, better you offload here than on your online course group!! I guess s/he didn't want the role themselves, but happy to criticise anyway!!

Glad you had a nice time last night. Rest much needed and am hoping its knocked the cold on the head.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 31/01/2010 14:21

I think the point is that they wanted the role for themselves and none too happy that the tutor gave it to me, I did not ask for it

I only left polite messages but if this continues I will make a formal complaint because it is bordering on harassment with a patronising tone to boot

promise not to talk about it anymore

nice 3 miles done dh took dd to a party
I could do with finishing the essay
