Hi all, can't believe I have to start the new thread

Slng, lol @ ds2!

Sfx, sparkle sounds nice!

I'm having to bribe ds1 to leave the house atm, that can't be right surely

He had his nativity yesterday, all lines remembered though there was a bit of yawning during it

sfxmum · 13/01/2010 14:50

btw finally bought this today
have been meaning to for a couple of years

tillyfernackerpants · 13/01/2010 15:42

sfx, hope you lie the book, I read that one recently and quite enjoyed it

slng, I would also be p*ed off with the school, how ridiculous!

pcworld, glad you liked the toy library!

Am not happy with ds1's swimming lessons this term, there's 16 in the class & they barely had time to do anything , don't think I'll be booking them again

OP posts:
sfxmum · 13/01/2010 16:43

tilly thanks looking forward to
shame about the swimming dd's class is quite big too, has 2 instructors, if she does not learn will book private lessons then let her move on with a group

teacher took the children to the school field whihc is by the river and really snowy apparently they loved it and got wet dd ate all her lunch for the first time

making the muffins now but did not fine grate the carrot

tillyfernackerpants · 13/01/2010 18:00

sfx, yes 2 instructors also, have moved him back to his old class which was at an awkward time but smaller!

slng · 13/01/2010 18:54

Had very nice afternoon - invited DS1's friends to eat birthday cake meant for class at school. Much better idea. F**k school.

vbus · 13/01/2010 20:47

Slng - that is really rubbish school still closed, glad you made most of the cake though!

Sfx - that is great DD loves FT hope it continues. Just finshed reading 'Guernsey Literary and Potato Peal Pie Society', you might enjoy it

Steppie - that is really news

(PCW close your eyes) We have all our Swedish winter stuff and pushchair has snow tyres, really makes a difference and has meant kids can be out and about in this weather. DS1 refused to come in at 4.45pm today as he wanted to keep playing the snow!

I am feeling much better today and have been able to eat something and keep it down so I think I'll be alright tom if I have another good night's sleep.

Need some help - my dad is coming back from his trip at wkend and wants to take us all out for lunch for a belated New Year celebration. Anyone know a nice, child friendly place that's open Sunday lunchtime? There are quite a few nice restuarants in Tedd/Twicks but we wanted to go somewhere we hadn't eaten before. Any ideas?

tillyfernackerpants · 13/01/2010 20:52

vbus, meant to say sorry you've been ill but glad you're on the mend again. Only restaurants I know really are ones like Ask, Giraffe etc! Though I have heard that Grill on the Green (think that's the right name) at Kew is meant to be child friendly. Will see if I can find a link

Btw, I loved 'Guernsey Literary and Potato Peal Pie Society', I didn't want it to end!

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 13/01/2010 20:54

Sorry, its actually Kew Grill

Or the Botanist

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/01/2010 11:09

why did I start cleaning/ clearing out the kitchen cupboards? sometimes best not to look

how is everyone getting on?

vbus feeling stronger?

stepfordwife · 14/01/2010 12:47

hello!

yes, pc, we do get so bogged down in stuff that isn't really important. after mum dying (and 11 years ago - 11 years! _ ago when my dad died) I could never imagine being stressed about anything less major than losing a loved again. but, of course, we're human and get frazzled at times about things that don't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

vbus -glad you're feeling better. snow equipment sounds fab!

well, have failed miserably so far in work/tax return envisaged getting wrapped up this week. but, hey, the main thing is that, thanks to procrastination of the most lowly kind on FB quizzes, I now know
a) the character i'm most like from eastenders is tanya branning
b) i'm going to be a 'plain crazy" old lady...can't wait.

stepfordwife · 14/01/2010 12:48

oh and vbus, think kids can eat free at the botanist..not sure whether that means at certain times..
not calling your dad a skinflint or anything, tho

vbus · 14/01/2010 19:51

Tilly - thanks for recommendation, Botanist will do the job. Hope my stomach will have recovered by then. I thought book was great too, I know exactly what you mean about not wanting it to end as I felt the same!

Steppie (or shall we call you Tanya? ) - ta for tip on free kids meals, will ask but sounds to good to be true eh?

Sfx - how did the cleaning sesh go? want to come round and do mine?

Took DS1 to hospital for his 6mthly allergy check. They have given us the green light for slowly introducing egg related products gradually building up to giving him egg, let's see how that goes.

tillyfernackerpants · 14/01/2010 20:03

vbus, great news for ds1, fingers crossed it goes well

Right, studying calls, or it would do if ds1 would stay in bed!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/01/2010 20:24

oh tilly study buddy should get on with mine too but just sat down after busy day

vbus it was interesting must do more, have 2 people interested in baby stuff and am hoping they will pop around over the next couple of weeks

good news on DS1 is it meringue to start with?

am liking dd's school quite a lot, think I mentioned they gave reception children a lunch buddy each from yr1 who takes them to the hall and generally looks after them while they eat, they do mixed tables
also the other day when they went to the playing field the biggest in school took them and each was responsible for a little one

  • are these normal practice? sounds nice to me
sfxmum · 14/01/2010 20:26

meant to add obviously with teachers and TA along

hopefully will go running tomorrow after the ice came the hacking cough but seems to be easing now, don't mind mud

slng · 14/01/2010 20:53

Hello!

Watching horrific programme on diets while sorting out our "art and crafty things" for DS1's little friends on Saturday.

sfx - DS1's school has some bigger children coming to do things with them too. So far all I know about is they did arty things. Another school I visited have adverts for bigger children willing to be "play buddies". I think they have something like that in DS1's school too. I think that's good. I wonder how well they do mixed-ability teaching (but obviously not bothered enough to find out ...)

vbus - good news on DS1. What are you starting first? Though if it's albumen he's allergic to then meringue might not be a good idea . I have a ginger cookies recipe using only egg yolk .

BTW tried watching slumdog millionaire last night but couldn't get into it. Also just finished my book so having "palette-clensers" before starting on Lolita...

TheWorldFamousKewcumber · 14/01/2010 23:48

whats an egg related product? Surely its either egg or its not... can something be like an egg but not an egg?

Its so easy to confuse me these days.

slng · 15/01/2010 09:25

at Kew. I don't know what egg-related product is either. Perhaps it's about egg white or egg yolk or how much egg? Best egg-related products: cakes.

sfxmum · 15/01/2010 10:59

dh is getting very competitive with this running business he is working tomorrow and taking Monday off in part for us to go running together

end of the week yeah!

hope everyone is well

sfxmum · 15/01/2010 11:00

the school website published pictures of their fun in the snow, presumably of the children who could be photographed

slng · 15/01/2010 12:58

Have baked one cake, have a cheesecake in the oven (never baked a cheesecake before) and a Malaysian nonya cake half done. Must have lunch before I faint with hunger...

vbus · 15/01/2010 14:02

LOl Kew, should've explained myself better! Doc suggested trying stuff with egg included in the ingredients e.g. cake, pasta etc, this is what I referred to as an egg related product as opposed to just giving egg (boiled/scrambled/fried). Gradually over time I'll be able to give him egg direct as his allergy diminishes, in theory. It might be be a long process as his allergy still exists even though it has slightly reduced in the past year. As I've never given DS2 any egg either he can be in on the experiement too!

Slng - ginger cookies recipe please. DS1 slightly less allergic to yolk than white so might be good one to start with, thanks. BTW why so many cakes?

Sfx - It's good you have a running partner esp one that is so keen

Feeling good today and feeling hungry, yay. Tried music class today and it was great as both of them enjoyed it, will continue with it.

hope everyone well

slng · 15/01/2010 15:51

vbus - ginger cookies. Quite possibly the best cookies ever. It's lovely. I usually use raisins, just to save chopping dates. Then you can make meringue with the white .

Cakes for party tomorrow.

sfxmum · 15/01/2010 18:29

so are we going to get it together and organise an evening out? pretty please?

slng · 15/01/2010 18:58

Yes please. Will put thinking hat on...
