Hi all, can't believe I have to start the new thread

Slng, lol @ ds2!

Sfx, sparkle sounds nice!

I'm having to bribe ds1 to leave the house atm, that can't be right surely

He had his nativity yesterday, all lines remembered though there was a bit of yawning during it

OP posts:
sfxmum · 09/01/2010 14:17

vbus am so looking forward to Pilates class

slng · 09/01/2010 18:42

Hello!

Been out so many times today I've lost count. Pictures of one outing on FB.

sfx - did you read thread on baker's webchat? Bakerman seems very nice. I was out at the time though ...

sfxmum · 09/01/2010 19:51

slng I had a good look but plan on going back for note taking, there is also a video
very nice indeed

vbus · 10/01/2010 15:42

Hello all

Sfx - glad music went so well

DS1 went to a party yesterday, the hall was freezing. Just come back from lovely lunch out.

Just found out school is open tom but they've asked for volunteers to come and help clear all the snow and ice. DH is trying to clear our drive and path now as our road is a complete ice rink. Yesterday he couldn't get a shovel through it but today is a tad warmer so success. Think I'll walk to nursery, I feel safer walking than driving!

Hoep everyone enjoying their weekends

slng · 10/01/2010 18:10

Hello!

Hope school is open tomorrow. Drove past it and the playground is covered with snow though ...

Hot cross buns for tea for kids!

sfxmum · 10/01/2010 18:17

hi all

afaik school will be open tomorrow as it has been so far
went to sensible birthday party today, good balance of food for children, left with cake and balloon - Fabulous!

really must run tomorrow otherwise might well go mad or at least very depressed indeed

slng · 11/01/2010 17:14

Hello!

School today. Paths hacked out in the snow to enable access and children not allowed on the snow Oh well. At least they are open.

sfxmum · 11/01/2010 17:27

hello all

slng good to hear school open but how on earth do you keep children from snow?

we are just back from first swimming lesson dd loved it and did not even complain walking home from station

had a sore throat and raised temp last night, so no running today, a shame really as dh took the day off and we wanted to go out together for first time
my Pilates class will likely be cancelled as only 4 signed up and they need min 6
not happy about it

hope all are well

vbus · 12/01/2010 13:24

Hello all

Well I've got a sickness bug, vomiting has stopped but I feel washed out still. So glad it happened this week while my mum was here to help. Just hope it passes quickly and the aren't next.

Sfx - good news about the swimming. Pity about the pilates though. I would love to join but not possible to commit to any class with DH extra travel and workload.

Slng - we have the same at our nursery they had red taped the footpaths so kids couldn't go on the snow

vbus · 12/01/2010 13:26

...kids aren't next

BTW have now finally started reading Twilight

sfxmum · 12/01/2010 16:30

vbus how awful hope all ok now

had spectacular ditzy moment this morning when I could not find my keys, dd was getting upset that she was going to be late so I left my flat door unlocked and headed out, met neighbour, who herself was running late, she offered to take dd and gave me her keys t get back into building, then another neighbour, with a child in their class, stopped and bundled all the kids in their car and drove to school, they got there just in time
hasten to add that although not really in accordance to health and safety it is just really going to the end of our road which is a private road anyway

and obviously dd told EVERYBODY about it

sfxmum · 12/01/2010 18:44

and Hurrah Pilates is on after all

slng · 12/01/2010 19:56

vbus - hope you are ok now. Twilight series just the thing when feeling unwell. Very lightweight and silly but quite fun.

sfx - have you found your keys?

Am exhausted. Baked two cakes for DS1's birthday. One for DS1 to take to school for his classmates. But his best friends are not in his class and it seems wrong that they don't get cake so bake second cake as cup cakes to distribute ... It's not so much the baking but the washing up because made sushi for packed lunch this morning too ... Luckily leftovers from last night for tea.

Heard radio show this morning about how 99% lunch boxes are very unhealthy but refrained from phoning in to say we are having sushi which seems poncy if not healthy... Wish they would leave parents alone. Not like schools and school dinners are anything to shout about.

sfxmum · 12/01/2010 20:23

slng I thought dh had taken them to work as I last remembered seeing them in the key pot with his but as it turned out once dd was gone I found them in my bed
then made my way to school for my regular helping slot
'oh there you are have you found your keys?' said the teacher

been hearing about the unhealthy food all day I don't really like being told what not to feed to my child

slng · 12/01/2010 20:59

They examined 1300 lunchboxes and came to a conclusion. How many lunchboxes do you reckon there are in this country? Honestly. Quite as meaningless as the Nick I-feel-your-pain-I-had-to-give-up-Ocado Clegg vs Gina Ford nonsense.

There must have been some health drive in school - DS1 was munching a raw carrot yesterday at pick-up time and it wasn't from me. How can munching raw carrot be any good for you? I hear that our bodies can't absorb the nutrients in carrots unless they (the carrots, not our bodies) are cooked. So all you get is the fibre. Might as well eat grass.

sfxmum · 12/01/2010 21:18

I like raw carrots just about the only way I like carrots unless it is in a cake

slng · 12/01/2010 21:48

Have you tried stewing it with butter and garlic? Yum!

sfxmum · 12/01/2010 22:48

I think it is the texture of cooked carrots I eat them but don't really like them, juice fine too

slng · 13/01/2010 08:36

Hello!

F*king school is fking shut again. F*king slackers.

Just sent off an email to enquire f*king reason for such fking behaviour. Am I supposed to take the whole f*king winter off work? Words fail me.

pcworld · 13/01/2010 09:23

Sing - I do think that's ridiculous. Surely we all just have to get on with it at this stage? Felt like Scott of the Antarctic en route home from dd's school complete with screaming ds in an out-of-control skittering-all-over-the-place Maclaren. So much fun Methinks it might be time to start thinking about holidays!

vbus - how are you today? You poor girl, hope you're on the mend soon, thank goodness your mum has been around.

Tilly - finally tried the Toy Library yesterday and was v impressed.

sfxmum · 13/01/2010 14:11

slng that is shocking no wonder you are pissed off

pcW last time I used a buggy was the neighbours P&T with both girls in, it was a dream even in the snow
Here thinking about Holidays at Easter think will stay put for out long half term

had a fabby day so far went to Pilates small lovely class was told what was wrong with my posture and how to correct it, hoping to get rid of neck pain/ headaches
also spent Waterstones voucher lots of lovely books adding to the Christmas loot

haven't seen the postman today but since he is a former Ghurka expect him to be able to deal with these conditions he is a very nice man

stepfordwife · 13/01/2010 14:33

hello everyone
hope you're all ok

sing - no wonder you're angry - ridiculous closing the school - no need and makes working life (even more) difficult

vbus - hope you're feeling better, m'dear

sfx - glad pilates on, is it at pools on the park? if so, what teacher have you got? i've done TWO of the 6-week beginners course (each time something's happened so haven't kept it up)
would like to take it up again, but can't do ANOTHER beginners' course. Or can I?! know there's an inter-mediate course, but just think that's a rip-off.

shocked by news this week about the journalist killed in afghanistan - i know his wife and used to work with her. devastated for her. can only imagine what she's going through - and they've got three kids under 6
really brings it home how nothing REALLY matters apart from your health and happiness and your loved ones' health and happiness.
we get so bogged down in STUFF that gets over-shadowed sometimes, doesn't it?
take care in the snow
toodlepip

pcworld · 13/01/2010 14:34

SFX {{buggy envy}}

Currently gearing up for the next outing ...

pcworld · 13/01/2010 14:37

Steppie - yes, that was really sad news and of course you are completely right, it is waaaayy too easy to get bogged down in the minutiae of life.

sfxmum · 13/01/2010 14:47

steppie it is awfully sad, I usually make a point of reading details of the war casualties, it is heartbreaking the youth of most of them and the families they leave behind

  • on Pilates am with Lauren, it was supposed to be Natalie but am quite happy with this one, she is very hands on, people don't really touch me like that on first meeting
I last did it when pregnant now quite different hope to continue

pcW it is divine 2 big girls and as as easy as pie am envious too, dd likes it too

the Haiti earthquake is a horrible disaster too

off to pick up dd in a moment she apparently LOVES full time and want after school activities everyday

we will bake muffins today
