ALERT ALERT - PROUD PARENT BRAGGING AHEAD - LOOK AWAY NOW IF YOU HAVE A SQUEAMISH DISPOSITION WITH RESPECT TO BRAGGING...

Kewcumber · 06/10/2009 21:35

DS's third (group) swimming lesson today (my mum is taking him). And he's swimming! Real swimming without arm bands, floats - style doesn;t exist - more of a flail than a swim but UNSUPPORTED!!!

You have no idea how hard I've worked to get him this far - this was the boy who screamed th eplace down if he was even put in th ebath and I had to start off by sitting him on the draining board and letting him dip just his feet in the sink.

I despaired of all the times we went to the pool and he just hung around my neck that he would never get used to it and now he is apparently the best in the class.

Kewcumber · 06/10/2009 21:36

Oops, where are my manners... hello newbies - would be lovely to meet some of you on Saturday if not I'm often around at weekends but work MOn-Thursday. One (swimming) DS nearly 4, based in Kew.

sfxmum · 06/10/2009 21:57

oh very impressive well done Gherkin

SushiMummy · 07/10/2009 07:46

Well done Gherkin-kun! He is such a big boy now. I love the quote of the month!

Hope everyone is OK.

Just found out my friend gave birth to a premmie and he died within two days. V v sad.

slng · 07/10/2009 11:44

Hello!

Sushi

Kew

mygreatauntgriselda · 07/10/2009 12:22

Sushi sorry to hear that, your poor friends

Kew p- thats amazing!! - perhaps all the work you put in at the early stages has eventually paid off?

vbus · 07/10/2009 13:32

Sushi - that is so

Kew - great news, well done Gherkin!

Sfx - nice to see you earlier even though it was brief

Should really be using this time to do chores/start cooking but here I am on MN

Kewcumber · 07/10/2009 14:11

Sushi - thats so terribly sad for your friend.

vbus - I too was a jetsetter back in the day... but you know I don;t miss it one bit (as you know) there is a limit to how appealing you can find one more hotel/taxi/airport/office. Though I will confess to feeling a bit sorry that I don't have quarterly weekends in NewYork anymore - even an annual one would be nice!

sfxmum · 07/10/2009 14:23

sushi so sorry to hear what terrible grief

vbus lovely to see the LO's too dd felt left out when I told her about it

panicking slightly about end of course / it is 50% of mark essay but will push on tonight and tomorrow, hopefully be ok and move on

looking forward to Saturday weekend in New York would be nice too

OP posts:
SushiMummy · 07/10/2009 14:53

I don't miss my jet setter days, either. (Haveing said that I'm going to Tokyo next month on business.)

sfx - good luck with the essay. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks for your kind words for my friend, well, I think some of you might have met the said friend from last year's DS's 3rd birthday do. Apparently, the waters started to leak early...

vbus · 07/10/2009 15:02

Glad I did all my jet setting pre-kids but yes the odd wkend away would be nice! I just thought it was it was ironic as DH has hardly travelled when I first met him and the past few years he's doing loads more travel.

Sfx - mini-sfx was missed too. Good luck for final part of essay

Better get ready for my shower

slng · 08/10/2009 11:09

Good morning!

Working and BORED.

Nice sunny day here. DS2's soggy sandals are being dried on the window ledge. He had to go in to nursery with his wellies for outdoors and crocs for indoors ... Should I get him new winter shoes yet? Should DS1 have spare shoes too? Dilemmas dilemmas dilemmas.

sfxmum · 08/10/2009 11:19

morning all

slng dd has wellies for general use trainers and school shoes for school and that may be all until Christmas

we are off to Kew after school made good progress with essay but need quite a few hrs tonight so hopefully dd will be very tired and drop off quickly

OP posts:
mygreatauntgriselda · 08/10/2009 13:07

I wouldn't have said I was a jetsetter but certainly had lots of corporate jollies. The annoying thing is that now, when I would LOVE a night away from the mini beasts, there are no more jollies due to the economic climate of "cutbacks"

Only went abroad once for a jolly, to Paris and it was dreadful.

tillyfernackerpants · 08/10/2009 13:51

I've never jetsetted or had jollies . Furthest I ever went with work was Belfast, which was lots of fun, but not the same as NY!

Ds1 finished his swimming lesson so is now having a rest & watching WALL.E. He looks shattered!

sfxmum · 08/10/2009 15:27

we went to Kew to clear my head and for dd to get some fresh air - lovely weather Kew looks wonderful in this light

school PTA AGM tonight be delegating that as have work to do

no work trips or jollies either but could take off at the drop of hat
am so getting itchy feet and it is so much worst since dd started school

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 08/10/2009 15:59

Am planning on going to Kew next week, provided it doesn't rain again . Bet it looks gorgeous!

sfxmum · 08/10/2009 16:06

it is the vibrant reds and golds never tire of walking around kicking leaves

OP posts:
vbus · 08/10/2009 19:15

Hello all

Lovely weather
We went to Bushy Park this morning, it was beautiful. Trip was made even nicer as friend introduced me to a secret garden, v. secluded I bet Kew was nice too

Slng - finally managed to get DS1 a 2nd pair of wellies to leave at nursery, pleased to hear that they will be playing out even in wet weather (unless torrential rain). Will get him some winter shoes tom and that will be it I think apart from some plimsolls to wear indoors at nursery when wellies hung up.

Tilly - how was WallE?

Dreaming of grey nomad yrs, plenty of travelling still left to do!

tillyfernackerpants · 08/10/2009 19:41

WallE was v good, though ds1 fell asleep about 10 mins into it!

Yep about grey nomad travelling, as soon as the boys are packed off to uni/wherever I'm off

sfxmum · 08/10/2009 19:51

dd loves WALL-E she gets really excited when the red light comes in before the big ship lands and when the rogue robots show up

the grey travelling club yes it is not like we were ever going to leave an inheritance
lets hope not too incoherent or incontinent by then

might even finish essay today actually just the thought of being able to run tomorrow morning motivates me to go for the final push all I need is a pass

back to work

mygreatauntgriselda · 08/10/2009 20:42

Go SFX!

slng · 08/10/2009 21:21

Have been on phone with friend. I REALLY REALLY have no patience with people who jump to wild conclusions but CANNOT see that they are doing so. Oh God. I'm so so so stressed out now. At least when I jump to mad conclusions I know it myself. I need some supper. AAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH.
