sfx - did go to museum solo, but only DS1 - poor ds2 captive in nursery! Went by bus-underground. Quite easy, really. DS1 so grown up when he's on his own. DS2 very bad influence.

vbus - remind me nearer the time, duh! Anyway don't know if cross-dressing anything to worry about at this age! Poor DS1 likes his pink floral hat but doesn't dare to wear it now on account of female authorities in school saying it's a girl's hat ... Protein drinks!

Did wonder today on the tube wearing sandals - should I be girly and paint my toe nails?

Baked breadsticks involving large dollop of butter and about half a bottle of olive oil. Better not scoff too many of them. Goes just a bit too well with my G&T ...

sfxmum · 02/06/2009 10:43

good morning all

slng must try that sometime when I am feeling brave.

vbus I wonder what ds1 will make of the drinks, and cross dressing, I recall my nephew wearing dresses, necklaces and painting his face with 'make-up', now at 16 he does not seem keen on it any more

my little girl is 4 today
originally she wanted to go to nursery and take a cake but changed her mind now I have a freshly baked cake in the house - what to do?

she is off with daddy to get a new big girl bike I think we will go to Kew later and keep it simple today

vbus · 02/06/2009 11:07

Happy birthday minisfx
I guess you could save the cake for a birthday tea?

I used to take DS1 to London my own to museums and to see my bro but not sure I fancy the trip with two of them as tube is so pushchair unfriendly

Slng - yes to pianting toenails. Now that's something hasn't asked to do, yet

sfxmum · 02/06/2009 11:25

slng yes meant to say about toenails I do them in crazy bright colours in winter when no one can see them and more sensible ones when it is sandal weather, no idea why I like doing them, am not that into make up anyway

vbus I expect dh will polish off most of it

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 02/06/2009 11:44

cake will probably fit just nicely through my letter box...

Eye much better now thanks for enquiring all, had various unpleasant tests yesterday to try to get to bottom of anaemia. Good news is that it isn;t anything really really nasty like cancer so thats a relief. Have to wait for biopsy results to see if they show anything. If they don't show anything I guess they just pump me full of iron and see whether it drops again?

Kewcumber · 02/06/2009 11:46

oh sfx my SIL has just got a family ticket to Latitude so will be coming up with us.

Plan to leave around 2ish - perhaps we could coordinate arrival times. SIL plans to pitch her own (tiny) tent, I have said that I will invite her over to our palace to relax.

We need to hook up so you can tell me what essentials to take and what food (I gather no cookers allowed?)

sfxmum · 02/06/2009 11:55

Kew glad to hear about the eye and fingers crossed for the biopsy, best look forward to a bunch of needles for the rest of your life
we can meet up one Friday maybe?
I have already started making lists, for cooking we use a Trangia it is fine for eggs and beans in the morning and boiling some pasta but we do usually eat out during the day

OP posts:
mygreatauntgriselda · 02/06/2009 12:43

Kew your SIL sounds like new best friend thats nice

PC world - if you are still PC world, who is vbus then? Am sooooooooo out of the loop here

Glad you had nice hols PC
We had a fabtastic time in Burnham on Sea, due to to wetaher. Spent 2 days by pool, with bar, music (mainly Lynrd Skynrd, who I love), cafe and the pools were great, one toddler, one for DD sized kids and a big pool. I had one kid in each pool

This is the first seriously hot weather we've had since DS2 was born and he has gone THE MOST delicious colour - he's by far the darkest child and is practically darker than DH. He is all crispy caramel with a white bottom from his swim trunks

Have blood tests tomorrow for possible thyroid probs. Consoling myself that if my thyroid is under active, they will give me meds which will make me slim forever lol!! My AFs arived the other day, 10 days after the start of the previous ones, so am slightly worried

Kewcumber · 02/06/2009 13:02

so you can take a cooker with fuel then sfx?

slng · 02/06/2009 16:02

Kew - are you thinking potential for terrorist activities?

vbus · 02/06/2009 20:53

Auntie - tis me, sat next to you at the meal! Glad you had a lovely holiday. Good luck for tests tom

KC - Trangia definitely the way forward, we cooked breakfast and lunch at the tent and tea time meal at the arena. There is a little shop at the campsite which sells sausages, eggs, bread etc but get there early as stuff sells out fast. We mostly bought our own food but went to the shop for cold foods. Wish I was going!
good luck for your test results

DS1 wanted to wear hairclips and necklace again today along with my slippers

sfxmum · 02/06/2009 20:57

hi had a very nice day glad dh decided not to go to work and hang out at Kew instead

KewC there is page on their site listing all forbidden items reasonable cooking stuff should be fine

auntie hope it is all ok with thyroid, glad you had a nice break
I saw a small boy by the river today who looked a lot like your ds2 but evidently wasn't as he the man he was calling daddy was not your dh

sfxmum · 03/06/2009 10:18

slng · 03/06/2009 20:07

Hello all!

Nothing to report. All quiet upstairs. Lancashire hotpot to be eaten!

MrsR: can't make Kew tomorrow Have a good time!

sfx - DS1 doesn't like chocolate cake either. It's most peculiar.

tillyfernackerpants · 03/06/2009 20:29

evening all, am shirking essay writing!

vbus/muesli, sorry I didn't meet you today, hope you had a nice time. Ds2 was up quite a bit of the night & was sick too. He's ok though, a quiet morning did the trick, despite rolling off his bouncy chair onto the tiled kitchen floor

sfx, lol at cake orders .

I picked up a load of ball pit balls today from someone on freecycle, ds1 has had great fun with them today, dh not so much having to pick them all up

SushiMummy · 04/06/2009 07:25

sfx - DS indeed said something about your DD's cake last night but I had no idea he requested cream one. DS said he doesn't like chocolate now but when he is 5 he will.

DS swore properly last night, 'fxxx off'. DH and I asked that is not a nice word then DS went on saying one of the children (not mini-sfx obviously) says it. The said child has older siblings so maybe s/he heard it at home? Should I tell the nursery?

By the way, we finally chucked our old buggie out. Feeling a bit sad about it.

SushiMummy · 04/06/2009 07:52

By the way, I've been thinking a lot about this couple who took their own life with the dead son in the rucksack. I suppose the wife being Japanese, same age as me, the son being the only child, there are so many things I can relate to which made me even sadder. If that happens to me, I would probably lose the will to live, too.

Kewcumber · 04/06/2009 09:03

It's terribly sad isn't it. I would also think "whats the point" but I'm not sure I'm the type to kill myself. It would make your childs death so completely pointless - at least if you live you can go on to touch other peoples lives in some way and leave a positive presence behind you when you go. But I guess you're not really thinking that clearly after the death of a child.

Kewcumber · 04/06/2009 09:04

on a more frivolous note - I have bought a trangia (with kettle) AND an airbed

Am NOT NOT NOT buying a sleeping bag - we WILL be using sheets and duvet.

sfxmum · 04/06/2009 11:22

good morning all

Kew you jolly camper we don't have a kettle just boil water in the pan but they are great make sure you get the fuel it lasts ages

sushi I was quite disturbed by it too almost impossible not too I suppose that after the initial accident and all that came after they just wanted to be together which I fully understand

have been out shopping this morning and will be voting later with dd must start them early but wish it was a general election instead

btw I love the running shop in Sheen went there today to get a couple of cheap things and mentioned I needed new shoes and the guy told me 'best leave it till Saturday when we start our sale'

OP posts:
sfxmum · 04/06/2009 11:23

Kew the things with Sheets and duvet is that they weigh far more than a sleeping bag which is a consideration when you have to cart your gear

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 04/06/2009 14:19

carting gear or not - I'm not sleeping in a bloody sleeping bag. I need a pillow and a duvet or quilt of some sort.

Kewcumber · 04/06/2009 14:21

I bought this I thought the fuel was just methylated spirits?

sfxmum · 04/06/2009 16:21

that looks great KewC and yes that will make it work very cheap to run

am having a rest before starting cooking,
nice to see some of you and respective children, earlier at Kew, seems like the last of the nice days for a while thought best make the most of it

OP posts:
slng · 04/06/2009 19:28

Hello all!

Have 14 teacakes to be baked! Oven heating up ...

Not sure who is the greatest muppet:

  1. Previous owner of DS2's nursery who sent a bill that has all wrong weekly fees, wrong subtotals and wrong totals;
  1. Halifax who keeps phoning all hours - "courtesy call" apparently;
  1. Garage who phoned home phone and mobile phone between 6.30-7.30 persistently - again "courtesy call".

WILL PEOPLE STOP BEING SO BLOODY COURTEOUS!!??

Anyway. Rant over. At ease.

Oven must be heated up by now. DS1 in bed with parting exhortation for me to try the teacakes when it's done so that I can tell him if it's nice when he wakes up
