pcw - dh is out too. Have just finished off some work stuff . Took the kids out to the library, then cafe for croissant sandwiches for all, then supermarket, then home, all without a single tantrum! No cereal at home but instant noodles and wine for supper.

sfxmum · 25/06/2009 21:09

I have met the pushy parent

OP posts:
slng · 25/06/2009 21:24

sfx - how can you tell?

sfxmum · 25/06/2009 21:27

swine flu about hey? oh dear I expect coming winter it will be worse the government are already lowering expectations regarding the availability of drugs.

slng 'what provision do you have for children who are brighter than others and what stimulating homework do you provide'

OP posts:
slng · 25/06/2009 21:35

sfx - at pushy parent!

sfxmum · 25/06/2009 21:39

apparently over 150 children applied for the 30 places available, considering that last year they had one vacancy it seems quite a few people decided against private school.

there were also 13 getting in via sibling rule, but actually I liked the teacher and we have home visit, induction day and start date all sorted, and I j=know the head from some place but can't quite figure out where from

OP posts:
slng · 25/06/2009 22:02

Home visit! Induction day! We just get a letter telling us when to turn up for first day of school ...

pcworld · 25/06/2009 22:12

LOL at pushy parent!!!

sfxmum · 25/06/2009 22:40

dh was under strict instructions not to ask questions along the lines of 'what new fangled nonsense is that? can't you just teach them to read?' I seriously flinched when there was mention of 'we do activate, it is a bit like mind gym' 2 nights ago I had heard a rant about that

pcW I think I will get the sweatshirt and polos with school logo but the rest will probably come from M&S

slng well done on no tantrum front, I had a chat with dd yesterday about the dramatic and today she clearly made an effort and by the time we got home she said 'I have done well no fussing today' Bless

anyway best get on with some essay writing just noticed a big hole in theory to be explained and I had waffled almost right up to the word limit - poo

OP posts:
slng · 26/06/2009 07:57

sfx - I did manage to keep quiet about the interactive whiteboard which was on and had Microsoft trademark floating windows screensaver on. Also well done DD. I think it's crucial to engage LOs in these attempts to keep tantrum under control. I tried to tell a friend that but she just said LOs don't know why they have tantrums therefore discussion pointless. Won't do to underestimate the little monsters darlings.

Am waiting for sushi rice to cool down before making sushi pack lunch ...

sfxmum · 26/06/2009 09:26

good morning

genuinely shocked by MJ death, I expect
much lunacy to follow

slng I don't think you can argue when the tantrum is in happening but at this age we can talk about behaviour, help her reason and understand her feeling and start recognising those of others

anyway barely slept last night, mind just racing and still have not finished essay, this one will be tricky, dd did not fall asleep until after10pm so will keep things quiet today

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 26/06/2009 09:33

slng - could you make enough sushi packed lunch for my dS too. Pretty please? WIll pop over and pick it up around 11am if you could have it ready by then...

slng · 26/06/2009 09:40

Hello again.

Kew - it so happens that I do have some spare sushi. They are the rejects that are falling apart (I'm not that good at it) but you can have them if you want.

sfx - I think friend is afraid what child might say, oddly enough. Still, more information is better than less. In these democratic days must take child's feelings into account, I suppose ... Did not sleep much either. DS2 woke up at 12 and 3. I think he was hot.

Must work ...

mygreatauntgriselda · 26/06/2009 12:57

pmsl at the pushy parent SFX

Last minutes school shopper here as well Slng

We're off to the IoW on a Sun £15 holiday this arvo after school - Yay!!!

Some ppl still haven't signed up for the night out (you know who you are)!!!

slng · 26/06/2009 13:26

Hello.

I haven't signed up for night out yet but will do soon! Isn't Auntie scary!

I wondered about the parents' evening business. So what would pp (pushy parent), or indeed any other parent, do if teacher should give an unsatisfactory answer? Bit late now for changing school ... These are questions to be asked before choosing school ... I didn't ask any question, except what they do in PE, out of pure curiosity. I still don't know...

sfxmum · 26/06/2009 13:51

so where exactly are the thundery showers? I am a full believed the forecast and kept waiting for them to arrive mid morning, now am just to tired to go out - fool

about parent evenings I like to have an idea of who the teacher is that I can actually talk to her/him and that they are actually interested in teaching
but schools like social services seem to be driven by targets, all fine but these targets become its reason for existing to the detriment of their actual jobs

pushy parent who has special gifted child is a pain it seemed to me there were lots of supportive parents with charming bright children there

vbus · 26/06/2009 14:12

Hello all
