Morning all. SJ great news on the nursery place. They sure don't tell you about the stress of school/nursery applications in the childcare books!

DH has the day off work today (he has to use or loose 4 days holiday before the end of March - although no doubt they will harrass him on his blackberry all day), so as we are child free until 3pm, we are going out for lunch, buying new wood floor and one of those wall mounted fireplaces. He wants to go and play golf instead .

Hope everyone is well.

Ros sorry to hear about the mouse problem get a cat! OUrs are good mousers except we don't actually have a mouse problem, they bring them in to play with .

ComeOVeneer · 09/03/2009 09:54

Oh and if anyone is interested, I have put a picture of my lastest cake creation on my profile (cake for dh's grandmother's 100th birthday, 2 weeks ago).

rosmerta · 09/03/2009 10:35

Slng, I tried the council last time, all they do is put poison down & check it for a couple of weeks. The man that came said we could do it ourselves & save £100!

I've read up today & they apparently become resistant to poison, treat it as a snack! I think we need to move onto traps

Cov, we are actually considering a cat! I just don't want them bringing more in!

Cake looks gorgeous, have fun with dh today

mellow2 · 09/03/2009 13:05

SJ - Good news about nursery and watch. Is that a nursery that's attached to a school?

We'll be getting stressed about school until 2010!

mygreatauntgriselda · 09/03/2009 14:23

SJ well done that's fantastic news - Pheww eh???

Ros - you must be really annoyed about the mice 'cos I've never heard you swear before

PC it was lovely to see you this morning - you DCs are both soooo cute! I have your DD's pics here

Am having frustrating day here My swim sponsors keep donating on the wrong webpage - argghhh!!

On the positive side - someone has made a £200 donation )

sfxmum · 09/03/2009 15:09

hello all

auntie how careless of them, hope you get it sorted, not long now

Ros hope you had a quiet day, mice and rats are always such a problem a pretty hard to get rid of if you don't know where they are coming in.

sushi/mellow/cov having said that about primary school the secondary is the one likely to provide endless sleepless nights

and btw cov the cake is gorgeous, hope she had a lovely day

we walked to Richmond went swimming went shopping then walked home via the playground very windy but I took it as resistance exercise

OP posts:
SJ99 · 09/03/2009 18:56

Auntie - that sounds anoying, but £200 donation is great news

Ros - Can you block their route(s) to entry? this what we had to do in Twicks when mice appeared

Cov - cake looks lovely, did you have a nice family day?

Sfx - LOL at resistance exercise!

Mellow - Yes, nursery is attached to school so having a nursery place will hopefully put us in good stead when doing school application form. I am feeling very relieved about school place. We moved here specifically because of that school so not sure what we would've done if he hadn't got in

Took DS1 to dentist today, they said even though he has a small jaw, no risk of overcrowding so no need for xrays. She said his teeth were close to coming through so here's hoping we're over the worst of the pain now, well til the top ones start coming through

slng · 09/03/2009 19:39

Hello!

I think we are supposed to apply for school place for DS2 end of this year

sfx - I agree secondary school would be the headache. I (used to) work on the assumption that primary is more important because once you learn to read you can learn anything, with or without a teacher. But strangely enough nobody seems to agree with me, so I just worry along with everyone else! It's easier than trying to be rational.

auntie - do you take cash donation at pizza outings?

sfxmum · 09/03/2009 19:54

slng what I mean regarding secondary schools is that there are plenty of good primaries about but not so secondary schools, at least not around here, very few state of schools are in good shape, and the good ones will be religious or private which is a worry for us

OP posts:
slng · 09/03/2009 19:57

sfx - same situation here for secondary. But there is also a chance that in the intervening years some miracle might happen. Like fast evolution so pigs grow wings and fly. You never know.

sfxmum · 09/03/2009 20:15

slng am betting on pigs getting wings before secondary schools improve
if only they would train and support teachers adequately finance enough for reasonable class sizes and just foster an interest in learning

anyway completely forgot my initial point posting
am thinking about dd's party and considering the 1 o'clock club or the Sheen sports centre soft play, any recommendations/ experience gratefully received TIA

Ah, SFX, sounds like a nice, energetic day! We've had a relaxing one (well, as relaxing as you can!) although oddly enough I'm still knackered. Auntie, good to see you, think both our dss are doing well on the hair front, perhaps they can be in a heavy metal band together when they are older

SJ99 · 09/03/2009 21:03

Sfx - for a summer party 1 o'clock club woudl be fab. I only went there that one time with you but did like the place.

Slng - how old is your DS2?

Secondary school stress... will cross that bridge...primary is stressful enough for the time being

MrsRecycle · 10/03/2009 07:04

Did someone say "schools stress"? Well that is me at the moment - haven't been sleeping because of it. Have a number of things on the go , work wise, all necisitating a move. So I've been trying to sort out schools for dds, nursery (all full)/cm for ds on top of everything else. But bless him, dh has said he will take over that responsibility . So I've managed to destress.

rosmerta · 10/03/2009 08:35

Hi all,

Sj, we've blocked off where we thought they were coming in before, but now we don't know! I think though because we're in a terrace with cavity walls they could be coming through from someone else's house, its just trying to find where!

Schools, I'm trying not to stress. We find out about ds1's nursery place at the end of May but other than that I don't want to worry about it until we need to.

Sfx, sorry I don't know either of those places but I'm sure they'd be fine

Auntie, I'll do a cash donation as well if you'll take it!

MrsR, sounds like you've got a lot on, glad dh is helping!

Was wondering if anyone fancied meeting up on Sunday?

slng · 10/03/2009 09:39

Morning all!

sfx - we went to a birthday party at cafe au play in kingston. Friend hired a clown magician and it was a great hit with the kids.

SJ - DS2 will be 3 in April. I'm trying not to think about school ... I hate school. We never seem to have time to just mill about.

Must crack on with work, laundry, food stuff, entry requirement to France, no claim bonus etc etc. Getting hungry just thinking about it.

rosmerta · 10/03/2009 10:12

Somebody slap me, I'm starting to enjoy ironing

sfxmum · 10/03/2009 10:50

hello all

Ros yes to Sunday I think dh needs some time alone
and thanks for link

mrsR but if it is all for the better it will be worth it, I hope it all works out with as little stress as possible

dh not having a good morning, he went to pick up his bike from the communal garage to the back wheel had been stolen, I must pop down to security to check CCTV and ask then to hold the last 24hrs, that if the camera is working

went running this morning half the usual footpath is blocked for maintenance so headed to Barnes, really really muddy!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 10/03/2009 10:51

meant thanks slng for link

OP posts:
sfxmum · 10/03/2009 10:52

and Ros we all have our perversions I quite like doing the dishes

OP posts:
SJ99 · 10/03/2009 11:57

Slng - your DS2 will be same school year as many of DC here then, for some reason thought he was younger

Sfx - I stumbled upon Cafe au play after Christmas, really liked it. Only drawback I would say is there's not much parking nearby and I think you would need an enetertainer there whereas 1 o'clock place has sandpit, loads of ride-ons/toys etc plus you can park easily in MH.

MrsR- pretty effective delegation, glad you are de-stressing

Ros - I'm afraid to admit I love ironing, cannot stand any other domestic chore. I like the way the garment starts off crumpled and then ends up beautifully smooth, sad I know!

May be up for Sun meet up, not sure of wkend plans yet, plus need to sort house out before IL's descend next week

Have been for walk and coffee with neighbour this morning after drop off which was a nice change to coming home and doing jobs

Kewcumber · 10/03/2009 12:12

I'm around Sunday.

Sounds like quite a few will be Sept 10 school starts. So glad DS is Nov birthday he really needs as many extra months as possible at nursery school.

I have to sing Montessori in Kew's praises though, they have been brilliant with him and I think I am going to take up their offer of a full time morning place for next year.

rosmerta · 10/03/2009 14:28

Great for Sunday meet up! Am happy to host at mine, otherwise maybe Kew if the weather's nice?

mellow2 · 10/03/2009 15:30

I'm trying to avoid thinking about schools here as we still don't have a solution to our problem.

We've got a plumbing crisis here atm. The restaurants downstairs has a leak in their ceiling. Initially, they were convinced the leak was coming from our flat and that we had to pay to fix it and re-paint restaurant's ceiling on our insurance.

They're not so sure now. If they don't identify the flat that has a leak, they're going to rip out all the bathroom walls that are above the restaurant leak (all 5 floors!).

So preeeetty stressful atm.

MrsRecycle · 10/03/2009 15:40

Ds will be a sept 10 starter as well...I haven't even thought about sorting out his school place yet [worried]!

Thanks sfx, I know it is for the best (as dh keeps on reminding me when I have doubts). Sorry to hear about dh's bike, hope the cctv was on.
