Slng Hi!!
SFX thanx 4 the lovely card

pcworld · 14/12/2008 22:33

Ros, hope you manage to get the bf cracked, it is hard at first especially when you are so tired and have a toddler to look after, too. Hopefully the drop-in counsellor will be able to provide some support and help.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, we had a good time in town today checking out Hamleys (feeling brave!) and generally enjoying being out of the house post-various illnesses!

SFX, I thought I might try that satsuma cake, too - it sounds lovely. Have a feeling I am about to go into baking overload over the next fortnight!

sparklyxmasfairy · 14/12/2008 22:46

auntie you are welcome

pc so far I have only done the delicious chocolate version yummy
you are a fearless soul braving Hamleys at this time of the year

btw if anyone does not like X factor and would like to derail their attempt at Christmas number 1 please go here

it is a sad travesty

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 15/12/2008 18:18

PC LOL at your choice of language "cracked" (Ouch!!!)

SFX is that Tim Buckey's son then? Have ADORED Tim Buckley since I was 14 - bet his son is mega talented too - I have of course heard of his son (ahem), its just that I haven't had the oportunity before now to listen to him

sparklyxmasfairy · 15/12/2008 18:36

auntie unfortunately he has been dead for over 10yrs but yes that is him

hi all, we had an awful night with precious little sleep dd feeling poorly and me getting worst we were having breakfast at 5.30am followed by computer games in bed followed by sleep until 11am, spent the rest of the day on and around the sofa
it might be the plaguedh is bringing dinner since my oven decided to pack it in and I am not cooking

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 15/12/2008 18:41

SFX I know he is dead LOL!!!

sparklyxmasfairy · 15/12/2008 18:47

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 15/12/2008 18:52

Dad overdosed and son drowned - yes I know, I know!!

sparklyxmasfairy · 15/12/2008 19:08

sorry it is the auntie name you see

slng · 15/12/2008 19:32

Hello all!

sparkly - I hope you don't give us the plague over the internet.

DS1's class is having a party and we have been asked to bring crisps. That's the school who asks us not to pack crisps for lunch because it's unhealthy. I know we cannot be consistent ALL the time, but why go all out to be inconsistent??? I just don't understand. I'm going to go and boil my head now.

Hello,

Hope everyone is well. I haven't posted much as I've been busy with chores that took a backseat during the fortnight we were ill.

xmas fairy - sorry to hear that dd and you are still feeling unwell. That evil cold must be doing the rounds.

Dd is suffering from cabin fever. If I didn't know better, I would say she was depressed with the weather. She wakes up every morning and complains about how dark it is and then starts sobbing about how she is not happy. And then she'll break into tears at the slightest excuse - not like dd at all.

Does anyone's else's LO suffer from the same? I don't know what to do. I've actually started bribing her with little presents - some stickers yesterday and a new apron today - because I can't stand to see her so miserable. Any advice?

mellow2 · 15/12/2008 19:42

Btw, xmas fairy, I recommend Bertinet's Crust recipe book over Dough. I think Dough is for beginners.

sparklyxmasfairy · 15/12/2008 20:12

thanks mellow that is the one I asked for but will take whichever MIL gives me

slng I think mrsR is having school party annoyances as well

dh is doing magic tricks for dd she will not accept mine as they are 'just pretend but daddy can do real magic'

I really want my bed now

sparklyxmasfairy · 15/12/2008 20:14

meant to say mellow can't say that I have experiences much sadness from dd but occasionally she seems more prone to bursting into tears at the slightest provocation

MaSTARRecycle · 15/12/2008 21:35

oh my ears are burning - yep dd2's got to bring in pineapple and cheese sticks tommorow - got told tonight! No probs tin and packet, sorted but where do I get bloody cocktail sticks from ? Arghhhhhh.

Ds much better but has been crying a lot - not like him. Mellow poor dd - but I'm with her on the dark days. Isn't she excited about next week?

mellow2 · 15/12/2008 21:38

MrsR - Sympathies. School sounds highly unreasonable. Do you mean if dd is excited about Christmas? Kind of. But every time we explain Christmas to her, she wants it to happen tomorrow.

MaSTARRecycle · 15/12/2008 21:46

oh yes dd2 was/is like that - can't wait for Christmas

slng · 15/12/2008 21:52

mellow - DSs had been asking whether Father Christmas has been when they woke up in the mornings last week but have given up. Poor DD. With our LOs misery tends to accompany physical illness. Is she well? Or perhaps you can try explaining the winter solstice and how the days will start getting longer?!

MrsR - We've got long bamboo sticks which you can chop if you are desperate! Or you could tell them where to stick their cocktail sticks...

I sometimes wonder if it's prudent to entrust the education of our children to people who are caught by surprise by events such as end-of-term parties and christmas year after year and have never quite managed to put in a better system of communication.

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 15/12/2008 22:10

Sympathise with those getting irate at lack of organisation in schools

DS1had to take a bottle of lemonade today - after DD being told week ago that she is not allowed pure apple juice in her packed lunh, only water!!

DS1 and D took in charity shoe boxes of vgc/gently played with toys for children in eastern Europe - I just hope children in eastern Europe like Daleks!!

MrsR - how is the brace now?

Went to Dishy Dentsist's colleague today for a (free root filling - did you see him too - Mr Patel?

Haven't name dropped all week, so here goes: Meeting Boris Johnson's Housing Adviser tomorrow morning!!!

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 15/12/2008 22:11

Slng I am sure the dentist was using bamboo sticks to clean my root filling today!!

sparklyxmasfairy · 15/12/2008 22:28

mrsR M&S sell cocktail sticks, are they having a 70's party? Demis Roussos on the record player

there is a thread around about teachers misspellings that is worrying, but lack of spelling ability can take you as far as the White House so might not be a huge problem

dd is sleeping and so should I but have been catching up on iplayer, dh is watching a horror movie and audibly wincing and ouching must be good

auntie very impressed, but when are you meeting Alan Johnson ?

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 15/12/2008 22:37

sorry ben a bit absent am trying to stop the company going down the drain before I go on hols on THursday.

At least... will be going on hols if DS's passport arrives back from home office tomorrow

Haven't arranged anyone to feed the cats yet - may still have to do patchwork quilt of lovely friends on here if I don't get my arse in gear...

sparklyxmasfairy · 16/12/2008 08:34

morning all

KC am away between 23rd and late on 27th other days can feed cat, hope passport arrives

rosmerta · 16/12/2008 11:30

morning all, had a few rough days so haven't been posting.

Hormones have fully hit and I've been getting all upset over ds1 not being the only one any more. He's really good with ds2 but has been acting up in other ways. I'm going to try and take him out this afternoon so he feels like he's getting some attention from me.

Anyway, that's enough of a 'me' post.

Kew, hope ds's passport turns up. Where are you off to?

Slng/MrsR, ds1 not even in school yet & you have my sympathies with organisation. I've been told by the school since September that the nursery application forms will be out 'next week'. Its finally turned up today, I'd been panicking as they'd also said it had to be in by January, but its actually May! Are school secretaries employed on the basis of how difficult they can make things seem?
