SJ99 · 30/11/2008 17:28

Hello all

Just a quickie, bit manic with IL's staying but they have actually been really helpful this time which makes life easier.

Hope everyone well, sorry haven't caught up on all your news but great that Nick is improving

Have also done online shopping for xmas more for practical reasons but do miss browsing round the shops. Went to Teddington to see the xmas lights being switched on - such a non-event, could harldy tell the difference when Peter Davison pressed the button

rosmerta · 01/12/2008 09:43

Hi all,

Sj, glad the in-laws are being helpful!

We've been doing our xmas shopping online as well. I can't face the shops now & dh would never go but he will order them!

Hope everyone's ok.

sfxmum · 01/12/2008 10:36

good morning all

SJ great that in laws are behaving themselvesthey must be delighted with family

Ros hope you are feeling well

here dd is still fighting a cold and cough but this seems to be the only dry day of the week and I would love to go for a nice walk

hope everyone is well

slng · 01/12/2008 17:15

Hello all!

Very quiet here, isn't it?

DS1 has finally recovered from virus/grumpiness after a whole week. But it looks like DS2 is about to start. And I'm getting a sore throat again.

Bit bored though. Can't wait for shopping trip on Saturday. Is it Saturday yet?

sfx - I baked the cheese and chive loaf (though with single cheese rather than double and spring onions rather than chive) and the cheese melted and overflowed. Is that normal?

mygreatauntgriselda · 01/12/2008 18:16

Slng - your "reduced VAT" shopping trip eh?

You have five more sleeps until your shopping trip

sfxmum · 01/12/2008 19:00

slng as I recall the cheese sort of melted within the dough but there were still chunks to be found, but I only baked it once and it was back in the summer so memory not very clear.

dd also fighting her bugs but at least my knee seems better the sensible thing to do would be waiting for next week but not sure I can stay sane that long

sfxmum · 02/12/2008 08:59

good morning all

not much sleep here last night dd has a hacking cough which got much worst overnight I am considering calling the doctor but will probably be told not to be silly and just wait it out.
have been up since 6 and with not much sleep yawn seems like a day for cake

rosmerta · 02/12/2008 09:22

sfx, poor dd, hope she feels better soon

stepfordwife · 02/12/2008 12:07

hello, all
sfx, sorry dd not too well. coughs can be so nasty and hard to get rid of, can't they?

ros, no twinges??

well. have spent all morning (not) sorting out building-related stuff and have now lost the will to do some work, but needs must...
toodlepip

rosmerta · 03/12/2008 09:03

Hi all, seems to have been very quiet on here lately

Sfx, how's dd today?

Steppie, no twinges yet! Dh decided to risk going to play golf this morning on that basis .

Btw, can anyone explain why dh struggles to get up for work at 8.30am, yet when he's playing golf he's leaping happily out of bed at 6.30am?

sfxmum · 03/12/2008 09:45

good morning all

Ros I think the same principle applies to children at weekends, ask a 7yr old
hope you are comfortable an it all starts soon

dd had a far better night last night barely waking up so I took her to pre school, feel awful about it but after 3 nights of not much sleep and the last time I left the house was Saturday afternoon so probably best all around.

can't yet run but will do home exercises

hope everyone is well, so frosty out

Kewcumber · 03/12/2008 11:04

sorry way way way too busy to be online much.

Still on for Sat if anyone else is around.

I suggest that we just order pizza as I have no intention of cooking anything! Confirm to me by email if you want to come as I wont be on MN much. Let me know by Friday evening and I'll take orders for which pizzas everyone wants and work out a cost in advance.

Mamma Mia has arrived....

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 03/12/2008 14:00

Ooooh are we meeting on Saturday???

Kewcumber · 03/12/2008 14:25

Didn't I invite anyone who was available around on 6th Dec, Sat? DS isn;t generally in bed until about 8.15 so a late'ish start if thats OK...

rosmerta · 03/12/2008 15:23

Sfx, you're probably right re 7yr olds!

Kew/steppie, met your cm today, she's lovely! I tried the playgroup, was quite nice

Kewcumber · 03/12/2008 15:46

rosmerta - its what always makes me laugh about the threads which talk about "leaving yoru DC's with a stranger"! She isn;t a stranger to him anymore - he knows her better than my sister and certainly (sadly) better than my dad!

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 03/12/2008 16:46

Ro - Ahem excuse me - she is MY childminder - I have known her for 6 years and introduced Steppy and Kew to her

I claim credit for finding her - she is a gem!!!

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 03/12/2008 16:49

QC will check wih DH whether I am allowed out on Saturday

sfxmum · 04/12/2008 11:07

good morning all

Kewcumber · 04/12/2008 11:15

my sister bought DS a small car and a backpack and a measles vaccination charity present. I really don;t are what (if anything) anyone buys him as a prsent and hope he will alwasy be able to feel grateful that anyone buys anything. But am I right to feel a littel at the idea of buying a child that young a charity present.

Can't think why she didn't just tell me that she'd also donated to that charity - was there any need to give it to him as a present (he was a bit baffled tbh) there wasn't even a fluffy measle or syringe to play with.

I don't mind charity gifts but I dislike "conspicuous giving".

Perhaps I am just being grumpy because she is insisting on giving me a expensive present between us for Xmas that I don't really want and won't be deterred.

Kewcumber · 04/12/2008 11:16

so is no-one free on Saturday now!

sfxmum · 04/12/2008 11:30

actually those kind of presents should only be between grown ups imo, if I want dd to start thinking of other more we freecycle or ask her to choose toys for the charity shop, far more 'real' to her I think

and KC about Saturday it is not that I am busy but I do have stumbling block of ABBA, are you also providing sparkling and witty conversation?

pcworld · 04/12/2008 11:43

KC am sure you will find some takers, it sounds like a great evening to me I can't come, sorry, there has been a death in the family and I need to fly to Northern Ireland at a hideously early hour in the morning - in fact, even my children don't get up that early! Am also battling a chest infection that I wouldn't wish to pass on. I really want to see Mamma Mia though. And pizza, too - what more could one want - perhaps a gallon of red wine and there's the perfect night!

Gosh, I wouldn't stop anyone buying me an expensive gift for Christmas!

Kewcumber · 04/12/2008 11:57

I have no problme with the expensive present but when you are short of money seeing it spent on something you don't really want is a bit galling. I'm taking it in good humour though. She's buying me and DS a Wii between us (and probably a pile of games neither of us will use...)
