good morning all

steppie that is good to know took me a few minutes to work out whether your dh was there or back.

mellow I may well get a couple for assorted rellies

auntie I wasn't apologising for the the SW, if anything I feel there is not enough accountability in SS and in generally in all society, it is beyond sickening that something like this happened and it is not the only one, at least 3 others I can think of hit the news recently were known to SS.
my point I guess is that it can be dangerous to think this is a one off.

for example in Ealing just before this case got publicity, the requirement for face to face visits to children in the at risk register was every 6 weeks they halved it now but I am fairly certain that will be until 'the dust settles'

also, genuine question, how can anyone know what was said at the visit? did she log it as 'isaid hi little fella, told mother to wipe chocolate off and left without looking'?
not excusing her incompetence and blatant criminal negligence but where does the detail come from?

anyway
feeling sorry for myself as it appears I have to be parked for about 3wks blasted knee thing
went shopping for presents instead

ComeOVeneer · 27/11/2008 13:04

Morning all. Steppy what a relief, Portandlemon's dh is out there staying in one of the hotels apparently but was not in the hotel when i happened! Hopefully he will come home soon.

rosmerta · 27/11/2008 13:07

hello all,

Steppie, good to know your dh isn't out there now.

Sfx, sorry about your knee, sounds frustrating

Bunyan, nice to see you this morning even briefly!

mellow2 · 27/11/2008 15:17

Sfx - Sorry to hear that you have to rest your knee seeing as running is so important to you.

OP posts:
mygreatauntgriselda · 27/11/2008 16:55

Steppy - I thought that was the same hotel as your DH stayes at - how awful - I bet you are glad he is home and safe

SFX - that account of the SW visit was from an eye witness who was present when the SW visited

stepfordwife · 27/11/2008 17:14

yes, i certainly am relieved he's home safe, auntie.
omg, COV, how frightening for portandlemon, i hope her dh gets home soon.

dh's kidney stone has flared up again, thought he'd given birth to it in the summer. apparently not. but had a scan this morning and consultant reckons birth hopefully imminent over next few days.

with my usual gentle bedside manner, whenever dh takes to lying on the bed, i urge him to get up and walk around..active birth is the way to go

bummer about the running, sfx? when should leg be better?

have been out to lunch with a friend whose husband died four years ago today. with everything happening at moment, really emphasises how the safety and happiness of your loved ones is all that really matters, eh?

stepfordwife · 27/11/2008 17:17

did anyone see the home show on channel 4 last night - and know the family from kew taking part?
i was trying to work out which road it was in..

we nearly agreed to be on it but, with everything going on, it felt like a step too far, plus would have had to find somewhere else to love for 2-3months.
presenter pretty tasty, tho

stepfordwife · 27/11/2008 17:18

to live that is..
freudian slip

mellow2 · 27/11/2008 18:08

Steppie - Impressed that I know someone who was nearly on a TV makeover show. Do you regret not agreeing it? I thought he did a pretty good job with the family's house.

My sister was featured on. Home make over programme 'big strong boys' even dd1 was on it (ok just a photo of her!).
Mumbai is truly awful glad your dh is home this week.
Nick sat in a chair today - isn't that brilliant?

mygreatauntgriselda · 27/11/2008 21:58

Wow - amazing news about Nick!!!!

Thanks for that MrsR I saw our fave dentist today! As my tooth s infected he has agreed to do root canal filling and new inlay for free (after I slightly told him off )

I have discovered the pleasures of pivate dentists - after for years arguing that NHS dentists should do a good job anyway, as we have paid for it thru our NI contributions (which I still believe, but its sooo nice to go to a dentist who understands the concept of "customer care")

rosmerta · 27/11/2008 22:01

MrsR, thanks for the update on Nick, that's fantastic news .

mygreatauntgriselda · 27/11/2008 22:11

Ros/SJ/Oxo - ayone want a very nice and hardly used bedside cot?

It's a JoJoMamanBebe one and is adjustable so it lines up with mattress and side rail slides away. Fine up to age 2 at least and really lovely

Free to anyone who wants it - Neither DD or DS2 ever used it (stayed in the bed) so in excellent condition and hardly used - has mattress too

stepfordwife · 28/11/2008 06:53

fab news about nick
mrs R, did your sister enjoy being on the show? was it worth it?

mellow, no don't regret it - we were only in preliminary discussions and the sticking point was moving out of house for so long.

don't regret it as didn't want whole house done and have got strong ideas myself how want things, but do regret it for the lovely expensive lighting and soft furnishings they give you.

oh, and hate being on TV. sure dh and i would have started a row lively design discussion on camera.

actually, am in even more need of a general makeover
have a good day, all
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 28/11/2008 06:59

and thanks for kind thoughts about dh, mrsr

i'm very grateful it didn't happen last week (which sounds very selfish, i know, for the people who were there this week, but am sure ykwim)

SushiMummy · 28/11/2008 07:44

Morning all.

Good news on Nick!

steppie - relieved to hear your DH is back in UK, as soon as I heard the news I thought about your DH. Hope portandlemon's DH will be back safely soon. Praying for those who's still trapped out there.

Mega busy at work. Hope everyone is well.

MrsRecycle · 28/11/2008 10:13

My sister enjoyed it but exbil didn't like being on camera. It was a lot of upheaval (she was knackered afterwards) but the end result was it looked good but a lot of it was unfinished so not a professional finish. She did fancy one of the "Lads", prior to the programme but he turned out to be very arrogant. Also, the presenter had a hangover so spent the first morning crashed out on my sis's sofa

auntie - glad dentist sorted - I know what you mean about nhs dentist, he was forever re-filling the same tooth and we were having to pay for it each visit. At least when you are private you get some recourse. I am a bit worried at the mo as the inlay they fitted last week is still causing me pain so am thinking root canal as well. Its the tooth the brace is going on as well. Guess I'll see what Dr Dish says.

sfxmum · 28/11/2008 10:30

good morning all

good news about Nick

about dentists my sister has been going to an American one in central London for years, it is private but also NHS so when they discus treatment they decide what can be NHS what best be private, not a bad deal and apparently he is quite dishy

dd is very entertained with her bumper pack of arts and crafts things only occasionally asking for help, she is really starting to show only child characteristics

ComeOVeneer · 28/11/2008 13:29

Fab news about Nick. P&L's dh is safe but confined to his office atm. Hopefully he will get out of there soon.

Hope everyone is well, despite the lousy weather. Must push on with school fair stuff, (roll on Sunday morning!!!!!)

mygreatauntgriselda · 29/11/2008 22:05

Steppy what does your DH think about what has happened in Mumbai? Does this mean he won't go there again for the next few yrs?

Not sure why the press are trying to blame people from Bradford?

SJ/Oxo have texted you

Does anyone with no social life watch "Outnumbered"?

It is so funny - DS1 loves it

Speaking of which, DS1 "bought" something on Ebay with my account

Have told him:
a he will pay or it from his own money
b if he ever does it again, he will face lifelong ban from using the PC

Had to say both and keep a straight face at the same time

He bought a Club Penguin Puffle (bless!)

mygreatauntgriselda · 29/11/2008 22:07

Where is everyone?

Not Christmas shopping surely?

slng · 30/11/2008 14:34

mygreatauntgriselda · 30/11/2008 15:00
