Don't do it Slng, back away

Paddle - sorry to hear DD is ill, hope she gets better soon. Might just be a 24hr thing with any luck

Actually got lots of little jobs done round the house today which was satisfying (see what I achieve when I'm away from the pc!) Part of it is the reality check that baby is due in less than 8wks and I know if I don't do these final bits round the house they won't ever get done

slng · 22/09/2008 19:42

Have done it SJ.

Will now go and do the washing up. Is that more fun?

SJ99 · 22/09/2008 19:44

washing up is NEVER fun

sfxmum · 22/09/2008 19:56

ha ha, thats really funny, Isobel started her own email account yesterday, to send one to her daddy, about her doing a poo on the potty for the first time. She went and got it, told me poo mummy, sat down and did it! I was flabberghasted! So, as we couldnt' cal him she emailed him herself, so that he'd def' read it as not from me...

Maybe the 3 of them should get together, so that perhaps little SFX might get to know littlecutie, with another friend and not be so upset by her? what do you think?

ok, lastly- I have a very desperate plea to anyone who can help. I've been stuck on floor most of today with my back in spasm, which is now continued into sciatic pain. GP did emergency script for diazepam, which has enabled me to actually move from the floor.

I was wondering, at all, if anyone can help me tomorrow morning with her. MUm is staying over tonight, but has to go and have something painful done in the hospital. I know I ca't manage with her alone. I have an app myself in the afternoon, at hospital, which may help current problem.

Is anyone out there able to either come over and help me, a=of course, I will give plenty of tea and biscuits etc... or take her off for a little while. I know its a HUGE thing to ask, and feel terrible having to. I do of course, completely understand if it's not possible. Just kind of desperate, and worried of course....

My muber is on the current list if that makes it easier.

Feel so bad for asking

sillybigsausage · 22/09/2008 21:47

bunyanvillas · 22/09/2008 21:59

Hello, everyone. Ros hope you are ok. Just checking in quickly. Have been sooo tired in a hitting the wall kind of way. And poor ds is really suffering with his teeth. So have been lying very low after a few weeks of trying do do far too much. Susie, have sent you a text.

Kewcumber · 22/09/2008 22:45

Cov - very unlikely to be type 1 at his age (not impossible but extremely extremely unlikley)

A two-hour blood glucose level above 11.1mmol/l is a diagnosis of diabetes - your DH was 17, fasting level bbove 7.0mmol/l is a diagnosis of diabetes vs your DH's of 9.

Most important thing about type 2 diabetes is to take it deadly seriously as you feel no immediate impact so its easy to ignore - ignore at your peril as side effects can e huge. On the upside well controlled type 2 diabetes can produce very very few side effects/symptoms and even if he needs metformin its a relatively side effect free drug wchich you can ake for many years. Best to try drug free contrl though to start with as you do tend to need increasing amounts over time.

You should get lots of help and advice and diabetic diet is normal healthy one recommended by british heart foundation - low saturated fat, low refined sugar and plenty of exercise.

Both my parents and my brother are diabetic so I'm oretty well versed if you want a chat. Diagnosis is a shock but actually life doesn;t change significantly except for diet and lifestyle changes. Biggest thing as I said (IME) is to get your DH to take it seriously if he feels OK.

Kewcumber · 22/09/2008 22:47

sorry Susie - I'm no good to man nor beast at the moment, but would happily help out another time.

Sorry Paddle - phone was upstairs - me downstairs and too exhausted to lift a muscle. Back off to docs tomorrow as think my cannula site is infected.

mellow2 · 23/09/2008 08:23

Susie,
I can come once I drop off dd at pre-school for a couple of of hours. I'll text you.

sfxmum · 23/09/2008 08:55

bunyan hope the teething slows down and gives you both some peace, take it easy

KC do you want to be left alone or do you fancy a coffee? or something?

Hi

Just quick pop on for Susie - haven't heard from you this morning so hope you're ok, just text if you still want me to come over as I'll be heading out soon and prob won't log on til this afternoon.

Will catch up with everyone later. TTFN

MrsRecycle · 23/09/2008 09:38

quick post as well - Susie sorry to hear about your pain hope you get relief soon - unfortunately I have a medical appointment this afternoon so have ds already packed off to CM and DDs sorted for after-school playdates.

Kew - sorry to hear about the infection - hope you get to the Docs this morning and some anti-biotics sorted out for it. Hope you are resting up and taking it easy.

COV - sorry to hear about dh - my df has it and I get used to him testing everytime we're having a meal together. He seems to take it in his stride and its not had a major impact on his life.

ds is doing well on the potty front as well - should be dry by the end of the week. Since seeing Kew's ds in pants, he refuses to wear nappies so we've no option as he wants to be "like ds" (in his words!).dd1 is busy sorting out her song for the Karaoke finals next week.

sfx - dd2 had a nightmare last night and ended up sleeping with us - when oh when will she ever sleep through eh?

bunyan - hope you have a bit more energy, but you must take things easy.

[Just previewed - can we have some Good News soon please )

Kewcumber · 23/09/2008 09:39

sfx - have promised DS playgroup today but have docors appt for the infectionin my arm at 10.20 so unfortunately have no choice but to rsort to kidzone (and hope it isn't overrun with little buggers darlings again).

Would be up for coffee later or later in the week. Am a bit odd at the moment - sort of feel fine but sometimes feel a bit wiped out. So much to catch up on which I barely have time to do with DS attached to one leg!

Kewcumber · 23/09/2008 09:42

Sorry Ros - meant to say how sad I am for you about your Nan. Hope the funeral went as well as these things can.

Paddle - is DD better - I seem to be missing chunks of messages (or maybe my brain just incapable of processing things properly at the moment!). What was wrong?

ComeOVeneer · 23/09/2008 09:48

Morning all. Thanks for the words of advice Kew (a quick trawl through the archives had made me notice you knew a thing or 2 about diabetes, but I didn't want to pester you just now). How are you feeling btw? DH will see a specialist either the end of this week or next, and I have said that if they don't recommend I want him to ask to be refered to a dietician too. Have ordered a few books of Amazon to educate me about this. Had a long chat with dh last night highlighting where his "fairly healthy" diet wasn't quite so healthy. In typical male attitude he was quite defensive (a sure sign that he knew what I was saying was right) . He is quite down about it, espcially what with the psoriasis and associated arthritis, it just doesn't seem fair, but hey that's life! We will get through this and it will probably mean a fitter healthier dh which can only be a good thing. Thinking about it, the signs have been around for a while he is always really tired (which we put down to his job, now I'm not so sure), always needs to wee, and a few months ago he nearly passed out on the train home and a stranger called me from the train to come and pick hiim up at the station.

Sorry for rambling on

SFX - sorry to hear dd had a bad dream again, ds has been having quite a lot recently and takes ages to resettle.

Ros - hope it all went as well as can be expected.

Paddle - pleased you had a good weekend. Hope dd is on the mend too.

Bunyan - Hope you are able to take things easy for a while and the teeth settle

Hope everyone else is doing well (and their lo's). Apologies if I have missed anything important out!

Catch you all later.

sfxmum · 23/09/2008 09:50

KC understandable of course have school visit at 11 then have to stop at GP too
then tomorrow the joys of the embassy in the morning plus more gp early afternoon all other times are good
btw dd is fascinated by the pictures of your arm of FB, she is so my daughter

mrsR dd slept with us for a long time, in fact she has only been in her own bedroom for a couple of months, she sleeps through most nights but when she wakes up she wants us to go to her and does not even entertain the suggestion of coming to our bed, even when she had the nasty cough/cold last week or the nightmare last night
funny children

Am not feeling too bad thanks COv - so don;t worry about icking my brains. Mother went trhough a phase of being very depressed about it, but actually as long as you take the diet and exercise changes seriously then its very manageable.

The diabetic association is good and often has talks by dieticians, I think there's also a cook book or two but as I say its really just a proper healthy diet low saturated fat and low refined carbs. There are some things you shouldn't take like cod liver oil but I'll try to do a scan of my memory banks and put my thoughts in some kind of order for you.

Skipping meals not a good idea and breakfast essential

Kewcumber · 23/09/2008 09:57

sfx - she can come and have a look at it in person later if she likes!

slng · 23/09/2008 10:11

Does anyone want a free enormous slow cooker? Given by MIL, used once, in the cupboard and taking up valuable space.

ComeOVeneer · 23/09/2008 10:18

SLng, I just bought an enormous slow cooker a few weeks ago! I love it and use it all the time!
