they haven't actually despatched janitor I saw him lurking behind pillars but a offering to the platelet gods spared me this time. This doctor seemed to know what platelets were.

bunyanvillas · 21/10/2008 18:58

Ros - lol re: mouse! I remember in our old house, discovering a little visitor one afternoon - lurking in one of dd's sandals, no less! Think it came in from the garden in her Dora rucksack. Shudder. Cue hilarious slapstick half hour with dd on sofa giggling and me trying to get our unwanted guest out the front door via a broom plus trying to stay cool and not scream in front of my tiny daughter! The things you have to do, had dd not been around I would simply have put my coat on and gone out for the day. Anyway, the broom tactic actually worked. Hope the council come round pdq and get this sorted for you.

Oooh SJ, congrats on date, how very exciting and probably easier for you to relax a bit now that the decision is made.

SFX, I think half-term may have started for some schools. DD's is next week and I shall be rushing to Kew - along with the hordes - can't believe we are now in the half term scenario

sfxmum · 21/10/2008 19:12

10th of November so you all get to have a different birthday
I can understand it is a relief to know

Bunyan we don't get half term so all is as it should be

Bunyan - LOL at mouse story! Reminds me of when we were at uni in a student house and we'd come back from clubbing in the early hrs. My friend went to the kitchen to get a snack, she hadn't put the light on yet and before she knew it she'd trodden on a mouse that had been lurking about in the shadows Apologies if anyone's eating

Well, Tesco realised thay had screwed up and sent round the delivery quick smart along with more money off so all sorted thankfully

Mellow - were you glad you braved the park? I keep forgetting about Syon Park, must try and venture out there some time as still haven't been

slng · 21/10/2008 19:49

Hello!

mouse - eeeeeeeeek!

So exhausted. Made pizza for 4 kids. Very nice pizza, even if I say so myself (and I don't even like pizza), but there's a pile of washing up waiting to be done. Luckily DH coming back earlier this evening!

Thank you all for advice re children's party. Another question I have (not quite come up yet) but what on earth is a playdate? I gather it's some sort of ritual where child A goes to play at child B's house. Does child A's associated grown-up accompany child A? Or is child B's associated grown-up expected to be in charge of both children? Very perplexing. Never had stuff like that when I was growing up.

Mellow - where did you go in Syon park? Is it the big fields on the way in, or are there more spaces further in? I'm always cold, but usually colder indoors than out. Usually wear jumpers and scarves in doors and look a sight. I've also discovered that if you cycle you don't get cold. Quite the opposite. But can hardly spend all day cycling... And you get hungry ...

mellow2 · 21/10/2008 20:59

sj and slng,

Tbh, the free public section of Syon Park is literally the grassy area outside the gates of Syon House. There's not much to it but it's a nice walk from our flat.

sj - that means ds and new baby will have birthday less than a week apart?

mellow2 · 21/10/2008 21:07

SJ - Flour mill says they might deliver Thu/Fri. The girl didn't seem sure though.

slng · 21/10/2008 21:16

mellow where do you get your flour from? I just get mine from Waitrose usually.

SJ99 · 21/10/2008 21:21

Mellow - not quite, new baby will be on 10th, mine on 15th, DH 24th & DS on 25th, it shall be an eventful month!

Slng - Not sure about playdate etiquette as I tend to accompany DS on his, but I think your DS is older so maybe you don't have to stay with him...? Just ask the other mum what she had in mind

Kewcumber · 22/10/2008 00:30

our family is worse SJ

Dad 3 jan
Bro 4 jan
Mum 10 Jan
Me 3 feb

Neice 26 Nov
DS 29 Nov

rosmerta · 22/10/2008 07:52

Sj, am a bit you know when dc is going to be born!

Bunyan, lol at your mouse story. I wish I'd had presence of mind to shoo it out of the door!

Sj/slng, there's the Tropical animal centre at Syon Park as well which costs around £5 iirc.

Our new pushchair arrived yesterday, so am going to have fun today trying to assemble it!

SJ99 · 22/10/2008 09:29

Morning all

Ros - it does make life a bit easier in organising childcare for DS while I'm in hospital. Obviously baby could still make an appearance of it's own accord before section date, at least I know I won't go overdue though which is a bonus.
Have fun with pushchair, excitement

Kew - expensive month then?

I have been awake since 4am and DS since 6am so I think we'll stay local today, need to take back library books anyway & might do some baking this afternoon

Slng - I thought everyone liked pizza???? It's one of my fave foods even though I don't have it that often

slng · 22/10/2008 09:40

Hello all. What a sunny freezing morning!

Just about to make a list of what I have to do today apart from work stuff ... I feel a bit exhausted already.

SJ - I almost never like any bought pizza - it's the overwhelming tomato stuff they spread on it. When I make it myself I make sure there's just enough of the stuff without neutralising all the other flavours. Which means no one else likes it! Tough, I say. (Luckily DSs would eat almost anything bready!)

xoxo · 22/10/2008 09:52

sj99 - have you booked your date? I'm hoping to book mine this afternoon. having read this thread will be sure to confirm back up plans for kids after school pick ups and bring a newspaper! what a drag having to juggle 2 kids and an impending birth. I've had to mess around the school walking bus this week because of two early morning. Luckily I've got some very understanding (sympathetic!) friends.

sfx: it's half term for private schools this week and next; you can always tell by looking at the cinema queue outside Odeon in Richmond.

must go get baby stuff ready - am now begining to panic - I feel it's time now as i've left it this long

sfxmum · 22/10/2008 11:07

good morning all

Ros brings back memories of mat leave huge bump quick dash to M&S for emergency chocolate brownies assembling cot ant pushchair another restoring dash to M&S for yet more chocolate

slbg am not hugely fond of pizza but the pizza place in Richmond by station make good ones

am very happy for you and your new ipod, sfx, you won't make me though as i am a luddite.

when ds1 was engrossed in his psp and ds1 in his DS the other day, i wondered out loud to dh is they were tah different to a stylophone..
he looked at me like this

..and very exciting to have your dates booked, sj and xoxo
must be surreal to know your baby will be born on a certain day..
bet you can't wait to meet your babies now

rosmerta · 22/10/2008 19:29

Have had a quiet day today as ds had an early start. So went to the pet shop to look at the animals & then home via the library grounds to do some leaf collecting!

Steppie, speaking of DS's, have emailed you! Sorry, have no idea what a stylophone is though!

Sfx, am very of your new ipod, mainly because I have no reason to need one!

sfxmum · 22/10/2008 20:08

dh says a stylophone is something to do with Rolf Harris

ipod is tiny and shiny green and totally gorgeous only 16gib but hey the old one is dead long live the shiny dinky thing

must get tired child to bed then play with new toy

2cute is ok she should be around more soon

OP posts:
slng · 22/10/2008 20:20

What does an ipod do? Is it one of those music-playing things? Does it make tea? Speaking of which, must go and eat something. Am just sitting here enjoying silence ...

SJ99 · 22/10/2008 20:39

Well just searched for stylophone as had no idea what it was. MrSfx was right
So were you the proud owner of one Steppie?

Treating myself to a gadget too I am getting a DS lite console for birthday, can't wait. Might help relieve some boredom if I don't make it out of the house for next few months

Just had my first ever taste of partdridge, we tried Valentine's recipe, it was really tasty

rosmerta · 22/10/2008 21:12

Sj, I have a ds lite and love it ! We can swap games!
