Yes SFX which degree???

Bunyan how can you read the thread with a baby around your ankles?

SJ - Wollis is just part of lfe isn't it - how will we live without it?

Is it the recession to blame for Woolies in Sheen's demise?

BTW think Ed Milliband is far preferable to his annoying upstart of a brother

sfxmum · 15/10/2008 21:20

well not very brainy I tell you but given career path (or lack there of) business idea etc I though the OU ( the mothers university of choice)
BA/BSc (honours) health and social care might be appropriate
there is a lot about policy etc which interests me, also plan on shaping it to deal more with elderly/ death and dying etc

has that cheered you up

LoL!!!! Sausage, ds has been in bed - for the night - since 6.07pm YIKES. This of course means a v early start tomorrow. So much action and excitement during the day that by 6pm it is hysterical meltdown time. And that's just me! Off now as dh needs to "update his ipod". And I really should clean the dried butternut squash off the wall. Or do my nails aka sj. But I can't be bothered. I wonder when I will get some motivation back, will this ever happen ...

Kewcumber · 15/10/2008 22:47

Sj apparently 60% of poeple in britain who have never had CP are actually immune (and probably why they don;t get it in the first place) presumably either from mother or general exposure.

Interestingly I am also immune to TB and smallpox and have hepB antibodies despite never having had any of them (or at least no symptoms of having had any of them).

I truly am a medical marvel.

rosmerta · 16/10/2008 09:25

Kew, you are indeed!

Sausage, I think Woolie's problems having been going on for a while now, not just because of the recession. Agree with sj that Wilkinson's doesn't have the same appeal.

Bunyan, am about Woolies in Chiswick. Wonder if the one in West Ealing is still open? Sorry about today btw.

Quiet day for us today!

SJ99 · 16/10/2008 09:31

Wow, that's great news KC! There's hope for me yet.

Quiet day for us too, DS (and therefore I was too) awake btw 3.30-6.30am. He's fast asleep now. He has regressed to being a baby or has advanced to teenage yrs i.e. awake all night, wants to sleep all day, LOL. Will wake him soon as it's such a nice day.

Ros/SBS - I really miss Woolies in Twix, the one in Teddington is rubbish

Sfx - degree sounds right up your street

sfxmum · 16/10/2008 10:17

morning all

KC good news at last

SJ it is my kind of thing but was talking it through with dh and will try and add a business component as that is the main plan

sunny day will try and do something with dd this afternoon but she looked a bit tired not enough sleep I think and that never bodes well

Well done on jog

We went leaf picking this morning and came back and had a bit of flour fest in the kitchen which resulted in a lovely batch of scones being made. Now just have to try not to scoff them all at once!

rosmerta · 16/10/2008 13:51

Sfx, am in awe of your jogging prowess! Degree sounds good, I'd love to do a Masters though it probably wouldn't be anything useful!

Sj, sounds like a nice morning! We did leaf picking the other day which ds stuck onto some paper to make a "nice picture for daddy"!

sfxmum · 16/10/2008 15:01

I thank you ladies but still quite rubbish at running, am thinking of joining a club, so far the Sheen Shufflers sound interesting

am hoping to keep up 4x a week but club would help me improve

we walked about Kew for a while after nursery lots more stuff for Autumn box

Ros I never quite got to do a degree so would like to now
post grad doesn't have to be useful just interesting

SJ dd not impressed with the lack of baking recently but needs must
scones sound yum

OP posts:
SJ99 · 16/10/2008 16:32

Feels like I haven't been to Kew for ages, must try and go soon esp as weather is so nice.

Ros - good idea making a picture, when we got home DS wanted to draw more leaves on the aquadraw!

Sfx - joining club will definitley help you keep up your running commitment during winter

Am attempting to cook pumpkin for 1st time as I received one from a friend's allotment. Have decided to roast along with some other veg, will see how it turn out

slng · 16/10/2008 19:31

Leftover Irish stew (!) for tea, so shall come on here a bit while it heats up instead of doing the washing up ... I'm so tired ... Can't believe the number of things I forgot at work today ...

sillybigsausage · 16/10/2008 20:28

Am supposed to be out drinking with school mums but am still at work

Mind you I was at Dishy Dentist all arvo - watching Kill Bill on some flashy piece of equipment while he did stuff to my teeth.

Now I look like this:

Sorry have read thread but too tired to talk except to LOL at Bunyan's butternut squash on wall...

sfxmum · 16/10/2008 22:28

SBS hope you made it to drinks

dh is on marathon 2week non stop work which means I am on marathon bla bla bla

best get some rest then

slng · 17/10/2008 13:09

Hello all!

Just finished work and about to go home to pick up the kids. Then it's to a birthday party ...

SBS - can't imagine Kill Bill to be very conducive to calmness on the part of dental patience.

Also read about Bunyan's butternut squash. How does she get it on the wall? That's the mystery. My preferred method is hand blender.

sfxmum · 17/10/2008 15:26

hello all

slng did work go better today than yesterday?

kill bill is one of those films I thought would bore me instead I laughed all the way through both of them.

busy day here dd now has new boots, gloves and jumpers

am really sleepy dd has been having dreams, she has been insisting on reading the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo's child everyday this week at bedtime but told me this morning they are exciting and scary

OP posts:
xoxo · 17/10/2008 16:59

Hi - a question for all you avid bakers on here. I want to make a massive birthday cake for ds, enough for 30 children.
Is this possible? Can i make a cake in a roasting tin?
has anyone got a receipe and baking instructions?

it will be a plain sponge, with white icing as he does not like cream, jam or chocolate (weird kid), and wants characters on top.

birthday is next week. helppppp????

rosmerta · 17/10/2008 17:47

Hi xoxo, not sure about baking in a roasting tin. You could see if the cook shop in Richmond has a large enough tin to hire? There's a recipe here for 6-8 people so you'd probably need to double or triple the ingredients! Good luck!

Just bought a pushchair to replace the rubbish one we got for ds first time around! Am ridiculously happy about it!

How's everyone else today?

rosmerta · 17/10/2008 17:48

Xoxo, just had another thought, could you do 2 or 3 medium cakes with different characters rather than one big one?

SJ99 · 17/10/2008 19:24

Hello all

Xoxo - I wouldn't make cake in roasting tin as altering tin shape and size will affect cooking times & quality. Ros suggestion of making several smaller ones is probably a safer way to go. COV can advise you better. Good luck!

Ros - v. exciting about pushchair purchase, have you got a double or did you just decide to get a new single?
Sent you an email btw

SBS - sorry it's manic at work for you, did you manage to get out in time for 1 drink at least?

Sfx - glad mini-sfx is kitted out for change in seasons, reminds me, must get DS some new gloves, not that he ever wears them though

Slng - enjoy the party

Hoep everyone else well

sfxmum · 17/10/2008 19:54

xoxo no expert but if you are doing a sponge I would go with what Ros said and do a few round ones and decorate simply and differently

as for quantities I would weigh the egg you are going to use in their shells and whatever the total weight use the same weight of butter, sugar and flour(self raising)
adding pinch of salt and vanilla essence possibly a little milk

as a guide 4 eggs should give you 2 20cm round sandwich cake tins, I have a few you can borrow
hope helpful

SJ dd quite likes gloves, must be a girl thing noticed yesterday the ones she had were too small

Ros is it a fancy one I quite like the one I bough initially still going strong despite terrible battering over 3yrs

OP posts:
rosmerta · 17/10/2008 20:16

ooh, it feels good to be validated in something

Pushchair isn't too fancy (I don't think!) but it has a carrycot & the seat faces both ways which I missed first time around.

Sj, sorry I did get your email but yahoo has been playing up lately. Will try & reply tonight.

sillybigsausage · 17/10/2008 21:18

Hey quit talking about "baking" - what is it anyway?

You're all making me feel inadequate!

No I didn't get to drinks last night and have another mega stressful weekend ahead of me with 2,000,000 things to do

You and me both, SFX...blah blah, blah

When do I get to retire from parenthood?

DH being usual unco-operative, uncommunicative self

sillybigsausage · 17/10/2008 21:22

Come on you miserable lot!!!
