New thread for August.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 17/08/2008 14:34

slng poor ds hope it is short lived

I would agree with Ros that choc hall of fame is yum next on the list is the guiness one

dd still out with dh and I am decluttering my wardrobe so much junk why did I think I still needed a few once black T's 2 sizes too small

slng · 17/08/2008 14:40

I need to chuck out t-shirts that
(a) are 10 years old
(b) grey (NOT the original colour)
(c) ride up and expose my tummy (not a pretty sight)
(d) make me look pregnant (No I'm not and NO we are not going to try for a girl. Honestly.)

slng · 17/08/2008 14:41

Poor old ds1. Don't know what's wrong. He doesn't seem to keep anything down, even a honey and lemon drink. Just water for now, I guess.

rosmerta · 17/08/2008 14:52

I did the malteser one for some friends, that went down well.

Sfx, my wardrobe could really do with decluttering as well but then I'd just be putting off finishing an essay! Like I am now really

sfxmum · 17/08/2008 14:59

slng dd was only sick twice but one of those times it got to us all, she had nothing but water for over 12 hrs and even that she kept bringing up hope he is ok as long as temp is down it is likely to be a tummy thing no?

ros the Malteser one is lovely, the quadruple was a birthday treat for dh, the expresso and the meringue one look to die for oh and the chestnut one[grin better stop now

slng that is a good rule am better when it comes to tops but trousers I tend to buy nice ones, mostly because it is hard to find a nice fit, and they last regardless of sizes so I have a few from a small 10 to a generous 16

sfxmum · 17/08/2008 15:00

btw I did her custard sponge cake for dd's 2nd birthday as a second cake and it is quite nice too and good for kids (how to Eat I think)

sfxmum · 17/08/2008 15:05

and letting the girl comment go by....

slng · 17/08/2008 15:08

sfx - ds1 says sore throat and nothing else hurts ...

I used to have trousers that fit, pre-ds1. Took a fair bit of looking to find them. Of course they didn't fit now so I took them to the charity shop and they just said "put them over there" without even looking at me. I felt like I wanted to scream "BUT I LOVED THEM!!"

Have also done this fridge cake which was lovely.

slng · 17/08/2008 15:11

As for girl comment - saw the other day there was a thread about "trying" for a child of different gender from what you already have. But personally don't have preference for boy or girl. i like my boys but would probably like them as much if they were girls!

sfxmum · 17/08/2008 15:17

that cake appeals to me but dh would just call it poo poo prunes cake he is so grown up sometimes

about gender I was not fussed and still am not but part of me would like to have the chance to parent both genders and there are hardly any boys on my side of the family.
but then again trying for a second and gender is not a preoccupation of mine

rosmerta · 17/08/2008 15:30

sfx, lol @ poo poo cake, just what my dh would say as well!

I have no preference on what this one's going to be either. Part of me thinks it would be nice to have 2 boys, another part would like to have a girl especially if we don't go for the 3rd, but happy whatever!

slng · 17/08/2008 15:49

Have to confess - I replaced the prunes with raisins ... Prunes not that appealing, are they?

sfxmum · 17/08/2008 15:52

what say you slng? maybe it is my advancing years but I do like prunes

put room pics on profile

slng · 17/08/2008 15:55

Prunes OK. in fact no effect that way on me or the kids. But chopped prunes bound to be a bit soggy. Prefer raisins.

sfxmum · 17/08/2008 16:29

I remember there used to be a fat substitute made out of prunes, comes in a jar like a paste, good results I seem to remember, not sure if still sells

slng · 17/08/2008 18:23

sfx - what a horrifying product! Appropriately message number 666.

DS1 is up and about now after lying down all day. Hopefully the bread-and-jam will stay down...

stepfordwife · 18/08/2008 07:08

hello everyone
blimey, turn my back for 5 minutes and you're all talking in tongues cookery again
all sounds delicious, tho..

Q: Why the bejaysus did i think could pack for building work to start (dh did more than his fair share, tho), move to storage and work over the weekend?

A; Because i'm an optimistic fool...

So upstairs working (you can tell..) builders due to arrive at 8.30am and am mildly worried haven't got any biscuits in...

the trying for a girl/boy thing...know several people who've done it...didn't mind gender myself and couldn't be bothered with it all - enough faff trying to conceive at all, eh?

have a fab day
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 18/08/2008 07:42

glad the big bed transition going well, sfx.
fab pics
never used a safety rail either after ds1 just used it to jump off

hope ds better, sing

stepfordwife · 18/08/2008 07:44

CALLING CAMBER
ARE YOU RECEIVING ME?

just in case...thanks a million for email and contact details, paddle. have emailed you back.

hope you're all having a fab time

slng · 18/08/2008 08:05

Morning all!

We start a new routine today - DSs in nursery a bit longer (school hours) to get DS1 used to school time...

DS1 still wheezing but running about making monstrous noises. Does that mean he's recovered? I guess we should still go to the doctors ....

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 09:54

good morning

slng hope that is it and ds is ok
about the prune paste it is low fat no cholesterol baking not the same as butter but if you must

SJ checked packet no recipe for roti, had 3 but not that one, maybe they thought everyone would know how to do it

Ros back to Nigella I made the chestnut cheesecake at Christmas which was really lovely but a slice is enough, very rich

dd seems to be waking up earlier than usual and last night she woke up and told me she felt lonely but went back to sleep quickly

shame it was raining when I could have gone out, could have done with it, today think will stay local, still have loads to tidy up and throw away

steppie but do you have bags of sugar an strong tea?

rosmerta · 18/08/2008 09:54

Slng, good luck with the new routine! With ds I tend to go by the rule that if he's running around and eating, then he's generally fine and don't bother with the dr.

Steppie, good luck with the building work!

Am wondering what to do today. Can't decide if I can be bothered to leave the house today, though feel like I should as it does seem to have stopped raining.

rosmerta · 18/08/2008 09:55

sfx, if you want a rich cake try her chocolate treacle cake. Absolutely delicious but very very rich & sweet!

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 10:28

that sounds like the kind of cake dh would like I rather go for less sweetness usually my criteria for a good cake - not too sweet

dd managed to bump her head again this morning so is now sporting 2 eggs

rosmerta · 18/08/2008 10:38

It is very much a cake you eat in small doses!

Hope dd is ok
