New thread for August.

OP posts:
slng · 18/08/2008 10:50

Back from doctors. Apparently not too serious - only worried because DH has asthma from small till quite grown up. Now DS1 playing with wet small legos, DS2 in nursery, and I'm working!

sfx - hope dd is fine. Also agree about sweetness of cakes. But a sweet cake is better than no cake!

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 11:02

slng think I read something at the weekend about asthma in small boys usually going away in early adulthood

think dd is ok but obviously I worry and keep checking her but trying not to alarm her, a couple of days ago a small loudspeaker fell on her head she got a bump but no other problems today she flung herself backwards and hit the back of her head on the edge of the table

  • one of those slow motion moments
sfxmum · 18/08/2008 11:04

meant to say about asthma that is no consolation whatsoever while it is happening

rosmerta · 18/08/2008 11:31

slng, sorry didn't realise about the asthma

Looks like we're having a morning in, ds doesn't want to get dressed & go out. Oh well, its been nice actually!

slng · 18/08/2008 11:38

DH had asthma and I have hay fever and eczema when small, and DS1 had bad eczema when very small. But don't think he's asthmatic, really. The wheezing is only(?) due to bacteria infection in throat. And he is really tearing about the place, so much so that I'm thinking maybe even the antibiotics are not needed...

slng · 18/08/2008 11:39

Have to admit - things are so much more peaceful without DS2! Just goes to show what a barbarian DS2 is!

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 11:40

we are in too dd got her RSPB magazine today and is looking at what bird watching project there is - she is a wildlife explorer

am pottering about doing short bouts of tidying
still must pop out this afternoon and grab some stuff for dinner

what an exciting life must sign up for next course asap

slng · 18/08/2008 11:51

I love pottering about. I'm almost never bored when there's nothing to do. Is there a career in that?

rosmerta · 18/08/2008 12:00

I don't think I've pottered about since ds was last ill which was quite a while ago. I'm just always focused on getting out of the door & doing something! But we have had a good time just playing. Still in pjyamas as well

stepfordwife · 18/08/2008 12:19

I WANT TO POTTER

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 12:23

bit of a risque verb there steppie have the builders arrived yet?

Ros once dd starts nursery there will be less pottering about time, when dh was home he HAD to get out all the time I am a bit different

was thinking on the days she goes to nursery I can go swimming have not had a proper swimm in ages

clouding over again I guess puddle jumping after lunch

slng · 18/08/2008 12:26

We've fished out and washed DH's lego bricks from when he was small! LOTS of them! But I'm tempted to get some lego people: see Lego community workers But a bit expensive, I think.

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 12:36

Lego has gone all fancy

what I remember enjoying when I was a child was those 'pin/ mosaic boards' with different colour/ shape pin type things to make pictures

that and making mud cakes digging in the garden looking for slugs

rosmerta · 18/08/2008 13:06

Dh & I were talking about when lego used to be just blocks with a platform to build on, now its all specific sets & figures!

stepfordwife · 18/08/2008 13:17

sfx
yes, builders have arrived. demolishing watched by a very excited dd. the digger arrives on wednesday - expecting a frenzy then..
have got a portaloo in our front garden

yes. lego is really complicated these days, eh? everything is so complicated these days..i remember those pin boards..loved them.

oh sfx. following dd's use of your dd's potty...at weekend found her little step thing to reach sink turned upside down with wee in it..she'd adapted now normal service of weeing on the loo is resumed..

slng · 18/08/2008 13:18

sfx - I remember those pins/mosaic things. I liked them too, though I suspect they might be "girly"! My next "project" is to teach DS1 how to sew. The craft shop in Northfields sell big plastic needles, so maybe we'll try sewing patterns on to baskets. All the foam sewing kits I'm seen are extremely "girly", making handbags!

ros - apparently there are such things as "technical lego" to build motobikes and diggers and things, with real gear boxes and things! I won't mind having a go ...

stepfordwife · 18/08/2008 13:18

has resumed, even

stepfordwife · 18/08/2008 13:21

sing, at school the boys sewed felt shapes - owl, butterfly, etc - together with running stitch, then stuck buttons, shapes on, etc.
they loved it
so simple even i could do it..(happened to be helping in ds2's class when they did it. nearly fainted when teacher mentioned helping with sewing..)

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 13:23

slng John Lewis have good crafts section I used made rugs with a net then short wool pulled with a weird needle type thing
catholic education hey sewing needle point cross stitch crochet
am such a good girl

steppie apologies dd still uses a potty most of the time but toilet use has become more frequent.

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 13:24

being able to sew a hemline, or a button and make at least 3 simple dishes is most definitely skills to be learnt before late teen regardless of gender

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 13:25

or are even

slng · 18/08/2008 14:02

sfx - agree. I remember my dad objecting to me sewing patchwork. My dad was rather anti-stereotype. But glad I know how to sew on buttons.

sfxmum · 18/08/2008 17:51

good slobbing about day but would anyone like to meet up tomorrow?

or we might go swimming to pools in the park should anyone like to join us

rosmerta · 19/08/2008 07:25

well, we're a bit quiet aren't we?!

Sfx, sorry can't meet up today. Ds in nursery and afternoons tend to be a bit rushed if he has a nap. I'm around tomorrow if you fancy it?

bunyanvillas · 19/08/2008 08:11

Sorry, SFX, we're not around either. Meeting Ros on Thurs morning (I think? That's right isn't it, Ros?!) if you fancy it? Gosh, isn't it indeed quiet on here! Guess all the action's going on in Camber
