New thread for August.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 25/08/2008 11:58

I was in Mothercare yesterday and DS wandered out of sight. I wasn't too worried as I was between him and the door but about 30 seconds later I heard a concorde decibel bellow "WHERE MY MUM, WHERE MY MUM!"

I guess he's not the type to sit in a corner and cry if he gets lost!!!

sillybigsausage · 25/08/2008 11:58

Susie - your post made me laugh re. the accent - haven't heard you speak so can't comment on your own voice, but I wouldn't worry too much about your DD - my DS and DD have various voices they use: Mockney, Irish (they do a very good northern Irish eccent) posh Kew voice etc etc - depends what mood the are in and who they are with - 'Tis very funny to hear though

sfxmum · 25/08/2008 12:16

susie I am sorry about H, happy to meet any time this week weather seems to be promising.

about voice dd does all sorts of accent type voices guess they are just playing with their voices

KC dd also shouts when lost it has happen on a couple of occasions she also likes going up to people and saying she is lost, or that she lost her sister

Camber pics looks great and KC the portraits look great.

I think I will have some time for myself today seems a father daughter outing is planned hurrah
hope everyone is well

Kewcumber · 25/08/2008 12:18

actually - I might be up for Kew this arfo if the weather holds.

slng · 25/08/2008 13:26

Hello all!

We've just been to the park round the corner, and then an enormous fry-up at home ... I said to ds1 that if he goes and rest now we can go out in the afternoon. But where??

SJ99 · 25/08/2008 14:53

Slng - can whole heartedly recommend Garsons farm (thanks for recommendation Bunyan ) We went this morning and had a really good time, the sweetcorn we picked is the sweetest ever! Am going to roast the rest of veg we picked to go with our tea tonight and make crumble with the fruit.

Anyway best get off, friend coming round soon but no choc cake left

sfxmum · 25/08/2008 16:10

it is all quiet here listening to my music and looking at magazines I feel like I am being pampered, they are supposed to make dinner tonight too, apparently pizza

SJ that sounds really nice but it is a car job non?

susiecutiebananas · 25/08/2008 16:58

Garson farm is in Esher ( I think! ) so might be accessible on a bus maybe train for speed... I've only driven there though!

I'm all alone, Dd gone to mums for lunnch and tea and a bath. Mum usually brings her home at bedtime. THought i'd feel better without having her wanting so much attention, but actually feel lonely!

DH is not doing so well this weekend, it turns out re: feeling very sad about his brother. I guess he's not really had 'time' to be alone and grieve/gather thoughts about what happened. so, thats what he's done this w/e.

Am going to make some muffins for Dd, she loves them so will do them tonight when she's in bed I think.

going to lie down for a bit now.

Glad you are being pampered SFX, and pizza will be great - as you are getting rest from cooking

SJ- I love fresh picked Sweet corn. I always used to pick it, walking through the fields in cornwall when I used to camp late in the summer. SO nice freshly picked and cooked!

Take care rest of you

PaddlePig · 25/08/2008 17:29

evening all, well dd is at the GPs until Saturday so all quite in Paddle house at the moment - will await the neighbours attempts to destroy the peace and quiet!

Susie, was lovely to spend day with you yesterday. Glad you have heard from H. I find it astonishing that your H and mine are so similar. I never would have thought there were other DHHs out there behaving the same way.

Your dd is gorgeous and it was a pleasure to have her for tea. My dd loved being the "in charge" big girl too.

It has been a moderately eventful day for us. Met GPs at John Lewis in High Wycombe for lunch and nabbed a really good quality piece of carpet for £25 to use as rug in the lounge. Am gutted to be covering up my beautiful floor which I actually shed blood over but if it helps cut down the noise I suppose it is worth it.

DD was pretty badly behaved and it all ended in tearful child and cross Mummy so felt very bad sending her off with GPs. We had lots of kisses and apologies all around before she went but.........

Popped into Asda on way home - it is SO cheap in there! Spent £45 which included a winter coat for dd, a large amount of meat for the freezer, some ready meals for this week and my supper this evening which will be wine, cheese, pate, olives and bread all from their equivilant of Tesco Finest. Quite cheap I thought.

I need a handyman, does anyone know one? The kitchen sink unit door has "fallen" off so I need to replace the unit itself. Will prob buy a carcass then re-fix the doors I have otherwise kitchen will be mismatched.

I am also going to replace my oven & hob. Can't decide if to replace with same or rip out the unit and put a free standing stove in.

John Lewis had some nice appliances including a very nice freestanding stove in the sale.

I am a bit intimidated by ripping out the old hob/oven as it will mean cutting the work surface then leaving the drawer unit and remaining work surface. Am very tempted to rip the whole lot out and put a new drawer unit and work surface but that is getting into the realms of "big job" and "bigger budget".

Basically, if I decide to rent in order to get my move underway I just need to put a new oven/hob and there is no need to spend a fortune on anything gorgeous.

Am having 2nd thoughts about move tho. Am going to try and start training on Weds evenings again if DM will agree to getting dd to bed for me. It would be lovely to get on the water again. Am going to go this week whilst dd is away. If I move an hour up the road then any future for training is gone.

ho hum, decisions decisions!

btw, susie's dd really does have an essex twang to her "sit daaaahn" but susie does not have an essex twang herself. FWIW, dd was the same at that age and referred to herself as "gel" and said things like "i love you best in all my weeeauld".

i'll shut up now.

ps: must go and pick fresh veg and fruit, sounds yummy!

slng · 25/08/2008 18:46

Paddle - re handyman, we used Home Wizards for fixing garden gate 2 years ago - we thought we had to replace the whole thing but he recommended a cheaper alternative which still works now. The rate doesn't look good on paper but it did work out quite reasonable, IIRC.

What are you training in?

SJ99 · 25/08/2008 18:51

Paddle - how exciting that you're going to start training again, good luck with it! If you don't find anyone in a hurry I'm sure DH will help out with your cupboard, he loves doing all that stuff. But would have to be at wkend as he's off for final few wks at Bristol tom to finally hand over to new recruit.

Susie - the corn was indeed lovely, so do you come from Cornwall area?

Sfx - hope you're enjoying pampering day. It just took 15mins to drive in car to farm. Not sure train station is closeby though...tis a nice day out though

Guess what....? DS did his 1st wee in the potty tonight I have just left potty lying around in new house not having had chance to 'train' him yet and he unexpectedly took to it tonight woo hoo! Had bought sticker chart in anticipation of needing to bribe him but maybe he'll just get it at his own pace, I shall be lead by him. I'm hoping that when he starts pre-school he'll want to go more when he sees the other kids going

sillybigsausage · 25/08/2008 19:01

Congrats to mini-SJ for the Royal wee on the Throne!! - a momentus event indeed!

Paddle do you mean rowing training? Have you been enthused again after watching the Olympics? I felt a lot more enthusiastic about my swims after watching all the swimmers on there!!

Just found out that one of DS1's classmates is leaving his school 'cos of the monster teacher they hadlast term Apprently she refused to let the 7 yr old child have a drink all day on a reallyhot day 'cos the child had "shaken" a water bottle and wouldn't stop when told! I'm sure she must've breached Elf & Safety laws in not allowing a drink and I feel all cross again - remembering the way that monster teacer spoke abot DS1

I might organise a delegation of cross Mum's to talk to the Head Teacher about it all

sfxmum · 25/08/2008 19:18

SBS seems delegation is in order, strange bizarre people who are allowed to be in charge of children

paddle am sure dd is fine. about the house I expect whatever you decision you make you will be thinking about the other side until it is final, pretty much human nature

slng thanks for the link just what I needed

SJ well done to DS, no stopping him now

had a quiet time they cooked dinner and bought chocolate ice cream for pudding

roped in niece to babysit next Wednesday for dinner and a movie with dh

PaddlePig · 25/08/2008 22:15

big up for mini-sj! sounds like you're doing all the right things SJ.

slng, thanks for the link. i'll check it out.

i've eaten half a slab of pate, half a bloody delicious brie, some stilton, olives and grapes - YUMMMMMM!

watched The Golden Compass on DVD and loved it.

Was going to bed but BB has sucked me in

SBS, I'd definately speak up about that teacher. If another child has left the school then it's something to be brought to the Governers attention IMO.

susiecutiebananas · 25/08/2008 22:39

ooo paddle, my SIL was the music supervisor on golden compass, the lovely David ( I told you about at kew ) worked on it as did my brother, who is a film composer. He didn't do the whole score but he orchestrated big bits of it.

DD came home from mum and had a little feed, then half a bottle then went out like a light saying 'mummy home' lul you mummy' think she got confused about who had been where

Have made a really really nice recipe for choc chip muffins. it's in the recipe section on here, i think its the "anykind' muffin recipe, or somehting like that! basically its a really easy recipe for muffin mix that you then add whatever you like into. have a go, even if you're not great at it, you will be SO pleased with the result! >

SJ well done on the potty!!! I really hope it continues for you, what a relief hey Oh and I don't come from Cornwall, but have spent every holiday in/around sennen-cove.com ( take a look at older pics- todays doesn't do it justice! ) since I was about 14. I wish i could just live there Full time... think i'd feel pretty isolated though. I miss it already and i've only been back a couple of weeks. I'm def going to go back in september i've decided. prob alone, but I just have to.

susiecutiebananas · 25/08/2008 22:41

oh, meant to add, anyone fancy doing something tomorrow - weather permitting of course

PaddlePig · 25/08/2008 23:00

wow, susie I'm impressed. I've read all the books and saw the stage adaptation at the NT in 2005, that was fantastic.

my Dsis bought me a cinema gift voucher so i could see it on the big screen but i never managed to get there!

hope you enjoy kew tomorrow, i'll be back at work

PaddlePig · 26/08/2008 06:37

morning all, woke at 3am remembering that I had not replied to your question SBS!

it's paddling training, not rowing. rowers are silly, they don't look where they are going!

bunyanvillas · 26/08/2008 08:33

Morning, all - just popping in quickly. DH is off this week so am not really around, we are allegedly out and about doing stuff, although am currently still in my dressing gown! SJ, glad you enjoyed Garsons - a taste of country life, eh? And congrats to ds on potty success! Susie, well done on Kew pass, see you there soon! To the Camber Collective - great photos on facebook, you obviously all had a brill time! Paddle, I shall be heading to Asda soon, that's an amazing amount of booty for £45, wow! Silly Sausage, am at that teacher's behaviour, that seems unacceptable. Hope you manage to get a parents' delegation together. Off now, am out and about next week so hopefully perhaps see some of you then.

sfxmum · 26/08/2008 09:25

good morning all

paddle you will have to tell me about the differences between rowing and paddling sometimes, apart from the being silly which seems we have already established

had a really relaxed long weekend and I am taking t easy today, might shamble over to kew at some point but no firm plans yet before my coffee

bunyan hope the family has a nice week

PaddlePig · 26/08/2008 09:36

sfx:

clearly facing the wrong direction

and the consequences

this is more like it

the joyful fun of it

I have some pics on FB of me doing something similar to the photo above in Cornwall.

Have fun all, I am at work today

sfxmum · 26/08/2008 09:38

wow waves I like it

slng · 26/08/2008 09:53

Paddle - I have heard stories from eyewitness about how rowers clearly expect things to move out of their way which doesn't always work especially when said thing is Staines bridge. Apparently it broke in two. The vessel, that is, not the rower nor Staines bridge, which would have been impressive.

I am working too. Have to proofread a 200+ page document.

sfxmum · 26/08/2008 10:08

OMG first settling in session at nursery tomorrow

cripes best stock up on tissues

rosmerta · 26/08/2008 10:14

hi all, just catching up after bh, have read through the thread but can only remember a couple of bits!

Glad everyone who went had a nice time at Camber.

paddle good luck with the training, be nice to do something for you for a change!

sj well done to minisj!

We had a nice weekend though ds's sleep & potty training all went a bit to pot! Plus we came back to what's probably 2 separate leaks. Fortunately a friend of ours is a plumber and doesn't usually charge us for coming round. Am just hoping it won't be too expensive to fix as otherwise we won't be able to redecorate our bedroom .
