New thread for August.

OP posts:

Hello all!

Back at work after hols. Harrumph. Very envious of picnic. Though we had quite a nice outing this afternoon - took dc and balls to bunny park and had a nice time rolling about on the grass. Result: very hungry kids who wolfed down 2 course dinner in 15 minutes. It also helped that dinner was yummy, even if I say so myself: salmon and tomato couscous salad, and strawberries in chocolate sauce. Yum! All the more impressive, I'm sure you'll admit, since it was all done in two episodes of Thomas the tank engine.

sfx - too many cookies!?

SJ99 · 11/08/2008 18:52

Our dinner was also wolfed, I tried a new tomato chicken recipe followed by the faithful old crumble, was quite quick to make but not sure I could beat your record Slng!

Would like to go to cinema but would prefer to see the Dark Knight as have seen Mamma Mia.

Paddle - hurray for DVD, at least they finally sorted it for you

Bunyan would love to meet but tom I'm having a long lunch on South Bank with a dear friend (& minus DS), cannot wait

SBS - good luck for presentation, bad form they didn't tell you about it earlier

Sfx - hope DH isn't too long

PaddlePig · 11/08/2008 18:55

SBS, bet you will look well corporate in your new clobber!

i will wear a suit tomorrow I expect, mainly due to lack of clothes as everything reserved for packing now!

sj, i'm in the office at South Bank tomorrow, I'll keep an eye out for you. enjoy lunch too.

sfx, too many cookies = oxymoron!

slng, impressed!

sfxmum · 11/08/2008 19:01

dinner not ready yet respect to slng and SJ

I think we are too full of cookies anyway

SJ99 · 11/08/2008 19:04

Paddle - where's good for lunch round SB?

PaddlePig · 11/08/2008 19:07

heaps of places there now by RFH including Wagamama and Giraffe. If you walk up towards Oxo Tower there's Gabriel's Wharf with several restaurants including Gourmey Pizza Co.

There's always the cafe in RFH too.

SJ99 · 11/08/2008 19:13

Thanks. Never been to Giraffe, might suggest that to my friend, I guess we'll take a wander and see what takes our fancy

bunyanvillas · 11/08/2008 19:28

Oh, could we see Mamma Mia and the Dark Knight? Watched "Elizabeth: the Golden Years" last night - fantastic viewing. SJ/Sing - v impressed at dinner menus this evening. In the Bunyan household we had chicken & mango casserole followed by the old faithful - Petit Filou plus strawberries! Could murder a crumble

Ros - yes, tomorrow arvo would be good - where do you fancy? You guys are welcome chez moi or if you'd rather I'm happy to come and meet you somewhere.

SJ, envious re: your child-free lunch!

SJ99 · 11/08/2008 19:59

Seeing as we're on our hols, have sent DH off to join our local video shop, hope he comes back with a decent film

Bunyan - casserole sounds good, mmm

Joint film at cinema is a good idea, as long as I'm not Billy sat in the cinema on my own while you all watch Mamma Mia

sillybigsausage · 11/08/2008 20:05

Oooh stop talking about FILMS!!!

I bought two dead cheap portable (or so I thought) DVD players in Tescos today and they are not portable at all

arrrggghhh!

Paddle where did you get yours with headphones?

Mama Mia meet up sounds a brill idea!!!

Dancing in the ailse and all that!!

rosmerta · 11/08/2008 20:11

Tbh, I'd see either of them! I'll go & start a thread & we can vote!

Bunyan, I'm happy to come to you. I'll give you a call in the morning.

rosmerta · 11/08/2008 20:15

cinema trip

rosmerta · 11/08/2008 20:15

cinema trip

sfxmum · 11/08/2008 20:16

think will have to pass on this don't mind mamma mia but only as a video in a few months not as cinema trip

rosmerta · 11/08/2008 20:19

Sfx, you don't fancy Dark Knight either?

Btw, we've finally got round to watching the 2nd series of Heroes - down to the last 2 episodes so don't tell me anything! - but we think its actually been quite good. All we'd heard was that it was rubbish. Were our expectations just that low?

sfxmum · 11/08/2008 20:22

dh wants to see dark night so might be a date movie

about heroes I thought it was slow to start too many new characters only one of which was interesting, the brother/sister were tiresome IMO

rosmerta · 11/08/2008 20:27

Agree about brother/sister, they are v irritating, just that loads seems to have happened. Ok, I'll leave it there before something is given away!

Kewcumber · 11/08/2008 20:32

Bunyan I'm also aorund tomorrow afternoon - no probems fitting in with you at yours or elsewhere - just tell me when and where and I'll be there!

Interview with recruitment consultant went OK,he was non-commital but then what else could he be to "well, ideally I'd like £250,000 for a three day week and leaving at 4.30pm working for a company in Richmond, or if they really insist I'd stretch to 5pm"

OK so not exactly that (bit may as well have been I suspect!) still no pressure to move so I can sit it out for the (nearly) perfect job

sfxmum · 11/08/2008 20:32

ros did you ever watch Alias and Veronica Mars? all very amusing pretty weird seeing the guy from enterprise with the silly irish accent too

sillybigsausage · 11/08/2008 20:37

Ros I can't access that thread for some spooky cyber-reason

rosmerta · 11/08/2008 21:03

sausage, try again

Sfx, did watch Alias, liked that a lot! We keep expecting more cast members to show up in Heroes as well, maybe Jennifer Garner one day! And yes, the Enterprise guy's accent was quite rubbish. Funny to think I used to watch him in Desmonds way back when! Down to the last episode which we'll probably watch tomorrow and then can finally start on BSG, last series

ComeOVeneer · 11/08/2008 21:10

Hi all, crumble here to made with the blackberries we picked earlier (at least dh and the children had it I am stil on a diet). Did have delicious steamed trout with spring onions, ginger and teryaki sauce on a bed of wilted spinach.

PaddlePig · 11/08/2008 21:11

SBS, i got all my kit off ebay and total was quite expensive. but i specifically wanted the DVD player as it can run off TV and computer games etc plus it has 2 headphone jacks.
headphones
case
dvd player

I also wanted a unit that wasn't restricted to just in-car use so mine has mains, cig lighter and rechargable battery.

On ebay you can pick up a twin in car for about £80 or Argos also has for £99 but they don't have a battery only 12V cig lighter thingy.

I'll be in the office tomorrow just in case anyone cares!!!!

sfxmum · 11/08/2008 21:20

pats paddle on the corporate back nearly there for hols

ros I thought Alias was really good fun but missed 2 last seasons when it all got even weirder

but BSG is perfect and the last few are still to be broadcast

PaddlePig · 11/08/2008 21:21

thanks SFX
