New thread for August.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 08/08/2008 09:18

good morning all

slow nice start here still to have breakfast, quite glad dd slept well
not sure what to do today just take it easy I think

we have been talking about the move to own room for ages but it will finally happen next week I think

mellow good luck with nursery hunting am not very keen on visits but just one of those things you have to do I guess

mellow2 · 08/08/2008 09:32

ros - sorry, I meant which nursery school will he be going to?

sfx - I'm sure mini sfx will enjoy her independence with a her own room

OP posts:
mellow2 · 08/08/2008 09:33

sfx - yes, really not keen on visiting nusery schools/pre-schools. I'm going to drag dh to as many as I can because he's far more observant and I just want the visit to be over as soon as possible.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 08/08/2008 09:40

We'll be applying to the Catholic one, Our Lady and St Joseph's. If he doesn't get in there, then I don't have a clue!

sfxmum · 08/08/2008 09:45

I took a list of questions and things to look out for like staff ration and turnover/ food/snacks/ toilet/ policies on dealing with behaviour etc and I had read the Ofstead reports
also all the financial side of things normal things but I got shell shocked in there and needed my notes

sfxmum · 08/08/2008 09:46

staff ratio not ration

mellow2 · 08/08/2008 09:51

Yeah, I'm prepared to be shocked by the cost. But do you just ask about problems identified in the Ofsted reports or do you go thru the same things identified in the Ofsted reports?

OP posts:
mellow2 · 08/08/2008 09:53

Sorry, I mean just go through the different things discussed in the report to find out if anything has changed since the report?

Does that make sense?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 08/08/2008 09:55

I don't think the Ofstead report is the main thing and I did not mention all of the things talked about as I did not find it very relevant, in my case. I think looking around and being where the kids are for a bit watching the interactions is usually interesting
if they overact around the kids is not very good although a certain level of ' best be on my best behaviour because I am being watched is fairly normal iyswim

stepfordwife · 08/08/2008 10:22

MrsRecycle · 08/08/2008 11:20

PaddlePig · 08/08/2008 11:25

Hey MrsR, ta for the leaflets and bits n bobs. Really kind of you.

Have a fabulous time, I bet you'll pop in occasionally tho.

See ya next Saturday, bright n early if H has anything to do with it

sfx, sorry i misread your post about putting pics on FB.

right, must get a shower and do some work.

i was a very good girl last night, just had a couple of drinks then home. no nasty hangover today thank god!

sfxmum · 08/08/2008 16:22

hi all

steppie I could always do with a running/ jogging mate

paddle how is the rest going? and more importantly how many new shoes does your dd have

sillyS&SJ lovely to see you earlier
took my sugared up child to the shops where she insisted on yet more sugar, dd is still to eat anything with any vitamins today.
will insist on proper dinner or else...pudding no doubt

was watching a bit of the Olympics coverage earlier, am I the only person who enjoys watching diving and gymnastics? it is a guilty secret

rosmerta · 08/08/2008 16:25

sfx, nope you're not the only one, I like the diving & gymnastics as well, though not rhythm gymnastics!

SJ99 · 08/08/2008 16:29

Hi all

Steppie - 10 am will be fine, don't worry

Nice to catch up with SBS & Sfx earlier, DS fell asleep in car on way home, felt like luxury not having to wake him, could leave him on the drive while I scoffed my lunch! DS ate his when he woke up

Mellow - good luck with visits, I agree just go with the one you get the best vibes from. Ofsted report is useful but it is only a snapshot of how school was viewed during 1wk of the year

Sfx - yes I like bits of the Olympics too, watched some of the ceremony, I also like watching the swimming as well as diving & gymnastics

MrsR - have a fabby time away

Well best get on with some more unpacking while my bro entertains DS

sfxmum · 08/08/2008 16:33

aha I knew it dh think s it is just my ghoulish delight when Greg Louganis hit his head on the board - honest it isn't

but the gymnastics is just so amazing, can't be bothered with team sports so of the track events are remarkable too

I got some autumn clothes for dd and she has been modelling them about the house and insisting I photograph her, I am starting to worry, so far I have only done pretend photography

rosmerta · 08/08/2008 18:11

what happened sfx?

sfxmum · 08/08/2008 18:14

I forget you are only young
I watched this live

warning do not click if squeamish

rosmerta · 08/08/2008 18:19

ouch! I have seen clips of that before, didn't know the name.

sfxmum · 08/08/2008 19:02

dh has been on radio silence all day, this is not unusual by 6 he tends to notice and tell me what is going on but not today
I actually worry although I know he is very distracted but he does bike with headphones on

slng · 08/08/2008 19:04

Evening all!

We are back! English weather much maligned. We had wonderful time and it only rained when it doesn't matter. Beach is lovely. So are funny little steam trains ...

I watched a bit of the Olympics thingy - did I hear wrongly or did that BBC woman say Lee Kuan Yew was a former leader of Malaysia!!?? I'm fed up already with these idiots. Is it going to be 2 weeks of people running around in circles chasing their own non-existing tails?

sfxmum · 08/08/2008 20:08

hi slng glad you had a nice time

didn't realise it was so late, phone battery dead

sfxmum · 09/08/2008 12:48

hello all good morning

we will be going to the Mela tomorrow
looks quite good

slng · 09/08/2008 13:34

Hello!

We've never been to the Mela despite it being more or less on the door step ... Looks good though. We are accompanying GP to Kew Bridge steam museum tomorrow. The third lot of steam trains, all of different sizes, in one week.

Are there plans for picnic on Monday? Vaguely remember someone mentioning it.

I washed all the sheets and hung them out to dry this morning. How optimistic was that!?

rosmerta · 09/08/2008 15:41

sfx, what time were you thinking of going? We might wander down there but will probably go in the afternoon.

Slng, very optimistic! Though we went out this morning & I was toying with hanging out the washing!

Sausage & Steppie, you might be interested in this for a visit over the summer holidays. We went this morning but ds is still a little too young, thought it might be good for your dcs?

Have also braved Ikea today, choosing a bed for ds! He seems so grown up now
